What talent do you really wish you had?

I would really, REALLY love to be able to sing. I wail along to songs on the radio and would love to actually sound amazing whilst doing so.

I don't have an awful voice (school choirs/shows etc) but just not good enough to get lead parts or have any wow factor. Would also love to do karaoke but knowing I'm not a great singer I wouldn't have the confidence.

What talent would you really have loved but didn't get?

I wish I had continued violin class as I was starting to get better at it when I dropped it (mainly because my teacher objected to me leaving her history class for my violin lesson and made it difficult for me to go) I would love to be able to play that properly!

CakeCakeCake21 · 29/05/2020 14:51

I would also love to be a good singer. I love singing, but unlike you OP I am not even a reasonable singer and my children regularly request I stop!

iamMadameX · 29/05/2020 14:52

I wish I could sing and dance too, just to be able to hold a tune and not sound like a cat being strangled. Do sing along at home and feel sorry for the neighbours when the windows are open!

picklemewalnuts · 29/05/2020 14:54

Anything! I'm mediocre at many things and would love to get good! I play guitar and sing, am learning harp. I bake sourdough. Crochet, knit, sew a bit....

But I'd love to do something well enough that it just came naturally, to be skilled enough that I don't have to learn each new piece of music and constantly correct my sewing and knitting etc,

ElectricTonight · 29/05/2020 14:55

It would be to be able to sing too OP,
I love singing, it makes me feel great but not so much when one of the kids tell me to shhh because I'm awful and embarrassing Grin

DarylDixonsHair · 29/05/2020 14:56

Singing! It's one of the few talents that can't be learnt.

Lima45 · 29/05/2020 14:56

Another one for singing. Even if it was just good enough to be able to sing along to the radio without it sounding like someone is killing a cat.

My voice is truly horrendous. I'd be happy if it was merely inoffensive.

blancheduboiss · 29/05/2020 14:57

Singing here too. I thought I sounded brilliant in the kitchen the other day, and miraculously thought I had become the next big thing over night, but DH’s attempt at a compliment said it all. Grin Also, Piano. I very nearly purchased a keyboard at the beginning of lockdown, but looked up all the piano notes, and this that and the other, and knew i’d never get anywhere without lessons so didn’t bother.

CovidicusRex · 29/05/2020 15:00

I really wish I was musical.

PurpleDaisies · 29/05/2020 15:00

In fact if I could sign and play the piano I'd be bloody happy.

Signing is a brilliant skill. I can do that. Not so much the piano though, which I wish I’d learnt as a child.

Elouera · 29/05/2020 15:06

I'd like to be able to sing in tune! Mum was in a band and had leads in musicals, grandfather was in a touring singing group and I'm as flat as a pancake when singing!

Anthilda · 29/05/2020 15:07

Maths and typing quickly without needing to look at keyboard for career reasons.

Piano, and drawing for pleasure.
OH says I am 'good with art' but I know that I am not as good as he believes.

TimeStoleMyYouth · 29/05/2020 15:11

I’d love to be good at everything that has already been mentioned (apart from whistling, I really don’t care about that!) ... top of my list would be languages, followed by sewing, drawing and singing.
Another one would be to be brilliant at telling interesting stories.

keepingbees · 29/05/2020 15:14

As others have said, singing. I love singing and sing all the time but I know I sound awful. I'd also love to play the piano or violin.
My natural talent is drawing but I don't particularly enjoy it, I don't have the time to put in and it's really hard to make money from.

chocolicious · 29/05/2020 15:25

I'd love to be able to sing ,speak another language fluently and be able to draw.I've been watching The great British sewing Bee and I'm in awe of how talented and creative everyone is.If I had a sewing machine I would love to try some home sewing.

DelurkingAJ · 29/05/2020 15:29

Does being able to read people count as a talent. I’m utterly rubbish at it (all my situational people skills are learned rather than innate) and I’m beyond jealous of all those people who think it’s obvious how people are feeling.

BigusBumus · 29/05/2020 15:36

I dance like Theresa May 😩 Would love to know how to dance with rhythm.

RainMustFall · 29/05/2020 15:53

I wish I was artistic, able to draw and paint well. I would also love to sing well and play a musical instrument but unfortunately I am tone deaf Sad

tobee · 29/05/2020 20:15

I'd love to be a world class sportsperson! I'm 52 and didn't really want to be good at sport when I was younger, but I just love the idea of playing sport for a living. A team sport ideally.

AnneBoleynsHead · 29/05/2020 21:15

I wish time travel was a talent - that's what I'd wish for.
Otherwise, to be in any way artistic.
I have the drawing abilities of a 5 year-old.

BorisTheBellend · 29/05/2020 21:28

Most of these replies I read while saying 'Yes, Yes!' in my head because I'd like to be able to do them all too! Apart from surfing, I hate being in open water.

I am mediocre at singing, dancing, drawing and I can tinkle random tunes on the piano so maybe if I'd had lessons when younger it could have been a developed talent.

DS2 used to watch X Factor and tell me I should audition and he also told his primary teacher that I was a great singer. Bless him, he needs his hearing checked though as DS1, DP and DD all regularly ask me to stop singing. Cheeky gits.

I would like to learn the piano. I just somehow never do it. That's my laziness. See also C25k

I can sing and it can be learnt. It's really rare to find truly tone deaf people. There are many more people who can't sing well because they don't believe they can learn. I've seen (and heard!) hundreds of people find their voices.

See also: drawing! It's a skill and you can learn it. Always recommend the book 'Drawing On The Right Side Of The Brain', which has some VERY dodgy claims about neuroscience but absolutely rock solid exercises that teach competence with a pencil for almost anyone who works through them.

Pickles89 · 29/05/2020 21:39

I would love to be able to sing! And dance. And draw. And slip fluently into other languages the way my parents can, specifically German, French and Italian. I'd also really love to be able to make up exciting stories for the children, right there on the spot.

Pickles89 · 29/05/2020 21:42

@AnneBoleynsHead Time travel would be awesome! When would you like to zap back to? From your username I'm guessing 1536! I would love to check out the Edwardian era. Only if I knew I was immune from nasty stuff though!

deste · 29/05/2020 21:44

Like you OP I wished I could sing and when I heard female singers who could really sing, I wished it was me. Roll on a few years and low and behold I had a DD who could sing, think London west end. I love listening to her sing and now hope her baby has a voice. At 20 months she can mostly sing in tune so fingers crossed.
