Just finished last year's Tanqueray and I would have bought another bottle but it's still full price everywhere (I'm cost-conscious) so I've plumped for the Morrison's London Dry. 43% so a decent kick to it and I've always been pleased with it before.

I'm using my cafetiere every day since about mid-March and I'm so far sticking to Morrison's Best Guatemalan ground coffee. I tried the Ethiopian blend but I found it a bit too fruity.

This might sound like an advert for Morrison's but I promise you it isn't. At least not intentionally Wink. It just happens to be my nearest supermarket.

Douwe Eggberts and Tesco cheapnand chatty London dry gin.

I've taken to flavouring them myself since lockdown. I have a rhubarb on the go now and an apple and BlackBerry brewing in a kilner jar in the pantry. Amazing!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 29/05/2020 10:46

Greenhalls gin and lidl barista americano

PeppermintSoda · 29/05/2020 10:49

I like Tesco Columbian but have also had Tesco finest costa rican and Costa for a bit of variety. At Christmas i had taylors Christmas blend and a taylors chocolatey blend. Forgotten the name of it

We had a bottle of Bombay Sapphire, which is now gone. As I left my old role at work just as lockdown happened, my old boss gave me a bottle from a distillery in his home town, which was quite different and interesting when served with a slice of orange rather than lemon/lime. We are currently working our way through the Gordons (I bought 1 bottle on my way back from a work trip to Brussels in February, we bought 1 coming back from London in Feb mid-term, and I had forgotten both and thought we were out once the Bombay was gone so bought a bottle locally 4 weeks ago - then opened the other cupboard where DH had moved them to...)

I'd like to get another bottle of Bertha's gin soon, which is tasty, or else Glendalough.

Tonic has been hard to come by, so we have run through all our fever tree, got some Lidl which was nice, but are mostly drinking full fat Schweppes at the moment (I much prefer slimline).

Coffee - I have been mainly getting Bewleys gold roast as an everyday drinking, and interspersing with Rooster "Joe's Java", Cloud Picker (2 different blends) and a bag of Starbuck's Pike Place beans for some variety. But we are going through more than a bag a week.

And we are also using the nespresso for individual cups during the day - I tend to drink the Vivalto (and decaf as much as caffeine version), DH drinks Forte a lot, but we are going through the variety of sleeves we have (including the last 3 capsules of Rosabaya that DH has been savouring!), and I'll need to restock very soon there too.

I think that might be the gin I buy OP, is it in the square bottle and £16? Great value. Lidl Hortus gin is fab as well.

Coffee I just buy Aldi beans.

MrBennsshop · 29/05/2020 11:08

Anyone else not keen on gins with flavourings already added? I like them as they are and to add any extras to the glass.

stargirl1701 · 29/05/2020 11:10

Lussa gin.

Harris gin.

Edinburgh Seaside gin.

Shetland Reel Ocean Sent gin.

Hills & Harbour gin.

ProfessorHasturLaVista · 29/05/2020 11:13

Hendricks gin with elderflower tonic.

www.mrduffinscoffee.com/ Coffee from here. Chit Chat is my favourite but I like Juicy Gossip too.

WildRosie · 29/05/2020 11:17

That's the one SudokuBook. It is good value. I've just come back from Aldi so I could easily have bought one of their varieties of gin but I'll stick to tried and tested for now.

I used to buy Lavazza and Illy coffee when I still used my espresso machine. I liked Illy more for the fancy canisters than the contents. I wonder what I'll make of Costa and Nero again once they're both fully available once more ?

We’re currently getting through a bottle of Brooklyn Gin, and someone sent me a bottle of Mermaid Pink Gin from the Isle of Wight distillery. I haven’t tried it yet but I do like the sweeter, flavoured gins so I think I’ll like it Grin

We’ve also found it difficult to get tonic water recently, but it’s either Fever Tree Elderflower or Schweppes signature collection light, which is what DH prefers.

Ginfordinner · 29/05/2020 11:22

I'm not really a fan of flavoured gins MrBennsshop.
I like gin to taste of juniper, not berries, grapefruit elderflower etc. I like Gordons for that reason. I also like Bombay Sapphire, Hendricks, Tanqueray and Aldi's Oliver Cromwell gin. For tonic water I have Fevertree refreshingly light or Mediterranean.

IMO Schweppes diet tonic kills the taste of the gin and leaves a nasty aftertaste in the mouth.

HUCKMUCK · 29/05/2020 11:30

I am currently on a bottle of Bombay Sapphire. We also have several flavoured ones which DH and DD like. I am bit over them but I do like the Beefeter Blood Orange.

For instant coffee we have L'or. For nespresso we have whatever is on offer and for beans we are currently working through a load of Starbucks ones which came in a hamper at Christmas.

ScrambledSmegs · 29/05/2020 11:33

Coffee - currently drinking Three Sixty Peru coffee, it was on offer so I got a few bags. It's very nice (we use a filter). Would definitely buy it again.

Gin - currently drinking which was a gift. It's good, not my favourite (Monkey 47 with Fevertree Mediterranean tonic) but it's half the price. Also rate Portobello Rd (needs a classic tonic), and Martin Millers which is so smooth you can drink it neat if you're that way inclined.

I'm making rhubarb gin at the moment with some supermarket own brand, about 200ml left over so we'll probably have that too. Probably won't notice the difference with a decent tonic Blush

ScrambledSmegs · 29/05/2020 11:33

Gah! Currently drinking CAORUNN

uncomfortablydumb53 · 29/05/2020 11:52

My favourite gin is the Tanqueray Sevilla
Favourite coffee surprisingly is Asda extra special Columbian, both instant and ground are lovely( and cheap too)

kingkuta · 29/05/2020 12:06

@BarbaraofSeville thanks so much for posting the Liverpool gin offer. Massive bargain

Ginfordinner · 29/05/2020 12:23

For the last two Christmases I have bought DH the Whittards coffees of the world gift set. By far our favourite coffee is the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe.

onemouseplace · 29/05/2020 12:29

Bombay Original London Dry Gin - was £16 a litre in Sainsbury's and is absolutely fine for our current requirements.

Coffee is our usual Nespresso pods - Fortissio I think they're called.

JayeAshe · 29/05/2020 12:33

F Y I Aldi's Oliver Cromwell gin is now called Greyson's

Gin and coffee - what brand(s), blend(s) are you using now ?
Nubbled · 29/05/2020 12:36

Tanqueray No 10 and Java Lava coffee.

I put an order into Tesco a few weeks ago, I was allowed to buy as much gin as I fancied, but only three bottles of tonic. Weird.

Ginfordinner · 29/05/2020 12:38

Thank you for the update @JayeAshe. Is it exactly the same gin?

Cakemonger · 29/05/2020 12:41

Ooh no @ITonyah I'll have to check out the cucumber one.

I found this amazing fever tree 'gin wheel' which is fun:

WildRosie · 29/05/2020 13:16

For those of you who have ice with your drinks, what sort of ice do you use ? It might sound like a daft question but I'm one of those people who doesn't see any point in buying it (if you use a lot of ice then fair enough). But then simply filling a cube tray with tap water and putting it in the freezer results in cloudy ice that dilutes your drink quickly and doesn't do an adequate job of keeping it cool. I use filtered, twice-boiled and twice-cooled water, pour it in a plastic freezer container and cut off nice, clear, hard and dense lumps of ice. They look classy too. Not ideal for big users of ice but fine for me.

BTW, I apologise if this thread has energised anyone's appetite for gin and coffee.

Ginfordinner · 29/05/2020 13:31

I buy the extra large ice cubes because they don't melt quickly and water the drinks down. DD uses a lot of ice, and I wouldn't be able to keep up with production.

MrBennsshop · 29/05/2020 13:33

I couldn't be arsed about cloudy ice cubes, but I use one giant ice cube rather than loads of small ones. Less surface area so it melts much more slowly. My ice tray is like this.
