@FuzzyPuffling the Minister of Shit Grin

FuzzyPuffling · 17/06/2020 17:38

I'm not holding out much hope for individual contacting....DH received his first ever text from the shielding service today. He was one of the first to get The Letter of Doom.

rugbymummy · 17/06/2020 18:14

Individual contact is an ideal scenario. A scenario that would happen in a country that has its shit together. Maybe New Zealand. My last contact was a text in May telling me to pack a bag and don’t put the bins out. I’m not holding my breath. They really haven’t a clue what they’re doing if they are talking about football when 2.5 million people are waiting on tenterhooks to find out what’s happening with their lives in 13 days. Don’t want to be over dramatic but it is an absolute outrage.

VictoriaBun · 17/06/2020 18:22

rugbymummy
Yes I remember that one ! Ask your friends or family to put out your bin. Hang on , I'll just get my family member to drive those 200 miles to do that

LucyTrainsDragons · 17/06/2020 18:32

Obviously the nation’s sport is far more important than the silent millions!

Redcherries · 17/06/2020 19:05

@FuzzyPuffling that’s made me chuckle, I got my letter in May, followed by the lovely pack a bag text and do some puzzles but they sent them to my not shielded husbands phone. He’s listed as my next of kin. I’ve not heard a thing since other than one call from a lovely lady at the drs who said they were concerned so many people had had no contact and they were making sure we all had the support we should.

Madhairday · 17/06/2020 19:54

Actually I think the Govt have had to rethink sacking us all off in July because of the leak and the backlash. Maybe they are crapping it now..."Oh no, the shielded are actually a bunch of literate, articulate and angry people, not a few old biddies with no access to the internet (who are going to die very soon anyway). Best rethink it......Oliver - go and witter on about footie tonight"

GrinGrinGrin

Madhairday · 17/06/2020 19:55

I didn't get the bins text. I think my last one was about sudoku or something.

iVampire · 17/06/2020 19:58

Who is the Minister for Shit?

Sounds like a very specialist department within DEFRA!

And it sounds like I did the right thing in not watching the briefing today.

Do you think the message might be getting through that we are not a homogeneous group?

I think they expected us all to be at death’s door, and the penny is only just beginning to drop that actually we’re not

TheSometimesTrainedDragon · 17/06/2020 20:01

Think I am going to re-train as a footballer...

iVampire · 17/06/2020 20:36

Saw this, thought of us!

@iVampire

Saw this, thought of us!
Yes I worry I’ll be felled by a slight cold after barely interacting for so long.
MarieVanGoethem · 18/06/2020 04:12

@TheSometimesTrainedDragon
I think we definitely need dragons more than we do footballers. Though a dragon would probably be quite the addition to a team. To be fair, footballers obviously important to ensure poor children get fed...

Am sorry everyone’s being driven to distraction by [non-]news. We’d 4 thunderstorms here yesterday & the rain’s just started again; would like to apologise if anyone’s caught up in the fact that I’m clearly the protagonist of this universe & pathetic fallacy is a thing...

Redcherries · 18/06/2020 08:56

Morning Shielders :)

Rainy and dull here today, and for me its another day catching up 18 months of business filing! 2 days down, 1 box down, 2 boxes to go ;)

Fingers crossed today is the day we get some answers, especially for those in difficult circumstances of which I know there are many in the group. I keep seeing people ask why we want an update, just stay at home! Well yes, its easy to say when your not expected back at work on July 1st or you're not one of those who hasn't been furloughed by your employer (who bloody does that to someone!). So fingers crossed those that need answers get some soon.

Whats everyone doing today? As mentioned, I'm in the home office, I'm actually finding getting over that horrible overwhelming anxiety and making a start plus having a bit of a routine has helped but today is wet with thunderstorms and tomorrow is looking lovely so boring day today and tomorrow will be a garden party for the 4 of us :)

This will sound a bit sad, I really wanted a day bed but can't afford one, so I've bought an inflatable camp mattress from Amazon for £15, I need to work out how to make it feel like something thats not a camping bed! Where theres a will theres a way :)

Redcherries · 18/06/2020 08:57

Day bed is for the garden :)

QueenCT · 18/06/2020 09:07

Working today as usual Smile I'm getting a little grouchy now, probably due to not sleeping and the lack of updates

midgetem · 18/06/2020 09:09

Hello all. Sorry to hear you're all feeling frustrated. I've had no contact since the letter in March and have pretty much given up following the government advice! I've spoken to my transplant team and the renal psychologist checks on me every month at my hospital appointment and my team have been very honest with me about survival for transplant patients based on data collected to middle of May. I feel so much better deciding to just listen to them and not the government - they make it up as and when they feel like it!

Madhairday · 18/06/2020 09:11

Can anyone tell me if Boris mentioned the shielding at all on his Tuesday briefing? I was watching it but didn't see this, but I posted a bit of a rant on FB and a couple of people told me he said that the shielding would be updated soon (one said that he said on July 4th). I'm confused, did anyone hear this?

Redcherries · 18/06/2020 09:36

He didn’t from what I saw @madhairday but Hancock did say in an interview yesterday and in pmq that we would be updated very soon. It will be before the 4th as shielding finishes at the end of June currently.

I’m hoping it’s taking a bit of time as they are putting together a far more comprehensive plan for us, rather than just ending or extending and then moving on to discuss pubs reopening 🤔

plus3 · 18/06/2020 09:41

Morning - I feel so despondent today. My GP told me yesterday that there is no way I should be going back to a patient facing role. So that is 15yr+ intensive care nursing down the drain. I have to speak to my Senior Nurse today about what they will get me doing instead. I could howl with frustration

JemilyJ · 18/06/2020 09:44

Frustrated today.
A friend was trying to encourage me to get out and about when I shared my frustration. I have been for a couple of “walks” in my powerchair but not this week. It’s been stressful at times to distance. She was suggesting meeting up and going shopping together so she could provide moral support with said stress. Sigh.

And the carer from Monday with the “smokers cough” was back last night. Still coughing and also stinking of fags.

FuzzyPuffling · 18/06/2020 09:47

Morning all. I like the cartoon iVampire. We had our thunderstorms yesterday and I managed to avoid bring struck by lightning. Today it is so foggy I can't see the field next door!
Redcherries, re air bed, plenty of cushions and throws, preferably in jewel colours. Will be like the Arabian Nights.

FuzzyPuffling · 18/06/2020 09:52

Plus3, I'm so sorry to hear about your career. It must be so frustrating and upsetting. I do hope your managers can sort out a new role for you. Teaching? Could you pass on all your experience to a load of other nurses, thus multiplying your impact? ( Ignore me if this is a crap thing to say)

plus3 · 18/06/2020 10:02

Fuzzy ...it’s not a crap thing to say thank you.

midgetem · 18/06/2020 10:15

@plus3, I'm sorry for the situation you are in. Surely the GP doesn't mean forever 🙁 you have achieved so much, and still have a part to play in intensive care I am sure. I hope you are supported whatever you decide to do.
