Shiny new thread for anyone shielding.

You can vent/moan/cry/chat/lurk whatever you need.

It’s agency, funded by CHC. If I cancel the carers I’d be at risk of my symptoms going out of control (more of a very soon when than an if) and that possibly hospitalising me. Other than the compression the carers help me with the only thing that could possibly manage it would be bed rest. Which isn’t good for other reasons.

The problem is the symptoms are new, persistent cough. So technically coming and coughing then explaining it’s a smokers cough isn’t against the rules.

UnholyStramash · 15/06/2020 21:32

@JemilyJ, I’m sorry you’re in this situation. It must be quite scary not being sure what to do. TheCovid19 symptom is ‘a new cough’ - so if the cough your carer has is genuinely a long-standing smokers cough, the risk to you would be much less. I suppose with carers there’s always an element of risk that you can’t banish completely. It’s a shame she’s new to you. Can you discuss this with her line manager so you can feel more reassured.

UnholyStramash · 15/06/2020 21:33

@JemilyJ, I see we cross posted.

94th day of shielding here...

Crazy to see all the people in the Q's for the shops...

I saw a video earlier, noone wearing masks, noone distancing and you could hear someone coughing away....

I just hope it was a smokers cough or something....

Madhairday · 16/06/2020 08:25

I worry about this when I go 'back into the world', thunder. I have a sometimes constant and hacking cough because of my lung disease, there's nothing I can do about it (already do lung clearance physio) and I'm worried people will hate me for it, but also get it if people back away :(

Madhairday · 16/06/2020 08:26

But yes agree, I was gobsmacked by the queues!

iVampire · 16/06/2020 08:30

I think having people back away might be a good thing, actually

I’m despairing if being able to keep 2m away from people who think 1m is enough especially outside.

I’m thinking of getting T-shirts printed!!

I’m about to ventured outside. Someone I trust to be ‘clean’ is going to give me a lift to a nearby park and help me walk the dog. It’ll be a nice way to see how well I can move on the ankle and the change of scenery will be a real treat’

Is2020OverYet · 16/06/2020 11:05

I cough quite a lot due to my asthma. I feel it may come in handy once I start being out and about more if people aren't social distancing properly.

Pebble21uk · 16/06/2020 13:01

Had a call from the shielding service this morning asking me if I still need my food box (I explained I didn't but DO need my priority supermarket slots) He said they'd had a big meeting about it yesterday and I could keep my slots but still cancel the box.

In other news he told me to keep an ear out for announcements this week on the news / press briefing - so something still intended to be said, just don't know when!

RhubarbJelly · 16/06/2020 13:41

Encouraging Pebble.
I don’t get a box but would be lost without being able to book an online supermarket delivery. Especially as the butchers/greengrocers/farm shops are now beginning to stop delivering due to opening.

Has anyone used click and collect if shielding?

ThunderCrack · 16/06/2020 13:45

@Madhairday
Ofcourse people have lots of reasons to cough, i would never say anything

Hopefully people will stay away from you.

That way, they cant give you anything...

Thanks for your reply. It would appear that I am on the extremely vulnerable and so should be shielding. I can't do it though, staying in drives me mad. I am however being really careful.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 16/06/2020 14:01

@Pebble21uk That's what they asked me as well. I've had to keep giving my boxes to the food bank as they drop and run. Being trying to cancel and hopefully won't get any more, but I'm keeping the slots.

Finally got my laptop and it took ages to get set up with all the security stuff. So daily Skype meetings and doing nights at home will be fun (trying to stay awake).

AuntieSocia1 · 16/06/2020 14:23

Hi everyone, checking in hope you are all doing ok but I can see there has been a lot of uncertainty. So glad for those of you who have been taking advantage of getting outside a bit. I can officially go for a walk from tomorrow (Scotland) Mobility hasn't been great so I won't be going far and I do feel a bit anxious but will go as I know my dc will love a change of scene.

People up thread were also discussing positives of lockdown. I have to say my garden is really benefiting from the extra attention and I actually feel quite proud of it for a change!

Other than that still feeling quite anxious overall. HavinG some difficulties with work and if I didn't need the money I would happily quit. This is so unlike me so I am going to ride it out and hope my mood improves and life goes back to semi normal eventually

Pebble21uk · 16/06/2020 17:31

Babysharkdoodoodood mine was dropping and running as well - no chance to ask them not to bring it!
We have low income neighbours with three young boys at home - so I asked them if they could use it and they were very happy to take me up on the offer... I expect they'll be pretty disappointed it's cancelled now!

VictoriaBun · 16/06/2020 17:40

Had our shielding phone call today, my dh was told by them to still stay in as per government guideline and to listen out for possible further instructions from them. I wonder if they are following a message or can more or less say what they want to a degree ?

LucyTrainsDragons · 16/06/2020 17:59

Nothing from Boris, AGAIN! But quite a few posts on Twitter, sharing this.

Don’t know the ins and outs because of course Boris hasn’t bothered to let us know.

Make of this what you will, I don’t know if it’s set in stone etc just sharing what I’ve seen online.

NervousInYorkshire · 16/06/2020 18:04

Eep.

Madhairday · 16/06/2020 18:06

That's interesting, Lucy, and incredibly frustrating that Boris hasn't bothered to say anything at all. Maybe he will tomorrow (not holding breath).

I would love to think this can be over with in July but still worried about the infection case numbers not being low enough. But I want to be optimistic, so here's hoping.

LucyTrainsDragons · 16/06/2020 18:13

@madhairday it’s so frustrating and tbh, upsetting that a huge proportion of the population just haven’t been mentioned, rather just left to seek and search out information!

Madhairday · 16/06/2020 18:22

It is. It feels like we've been forgotten, yet again. It's crap.

RhubarbJelly · 16/06/2020 18:47

So from the end of July employers can expect people to return to front line clinical roles? Eek! And travel on the tube etc? All teachers back in schools, some over 1,000 student with no chance of SD, People back as paramedics even!

I think a middle ground is where I would be happy... working from home still!

rugbymummy · 16/06/2020 18:48

Thanks @LucyTrainsDragons.
So unfair that Boris hasn’t announced this officially if it’s true. We’ll now be left worrying and speculating and ‘what if’ing until he gets round to confirming or denying.
No phone calls here, but that’s maybe because I ticked ‘no’ to a food box right at the start and got on the tesco priority list by ringing them and giving them my details so they could find me on the list. The last contact I had was the ‘pack your hospital bag’ text in May.

LucyTrainsDragons · 16/06/2020 19:00

It makes me feel that this tweet was purposely leaked’ after the press conference (I can’t 100% confirm this) to pave the way for tomorrow’s press conference or, Thurs? Who knows when they’ll decide to give us a mention!

Just bloody tell us fgs!

LucyTrainsDragons · 16/06/2020 19:00

Not the tweet, the info!
