outnumberedwoman have you tried fexofenodene? Both my daughters are on that and it’s quite effective. Can also take ceterizine on top

ToothFairyNemesis · 14/06/2020 11:39

@LucyTrainsDragons it’s Wales that has extended shielding until August 16th. Scotland is July 31st.

BeyondDreamsOfBeyondFourWalls · 14/06/2020 12:44

@LucyTrainsDragons
Haven't got my English version to hand, but here's the welsh one. Grin

(Yes, there were eight pages in total, four in welsh and four in English)

LucyTrainsDragons · 14/06/2020 12:57

Ah, sorry. I can’t keep up with it all now. Was your original date in Wales the 30th June?

Anyone dreading what tomorrow might bring in England?

rugbymummy · 14/06/2020 13:37

Lucy- me. I have the absolute fear. Both ways fear. Scared of a much longer date, scared they’ll say I can go back to work. Which I clearly can’t. 15 kids in a room and no mask. No, don’t think so. Whatever they say I think the only person I’m happy guiding me now is my fabulous gp who has been amazing throughout. I hope they don’t keep us hanging on all week while they do their ‘review’.
Outnumbered - yes to Fexofenadine or alternatively Desloratadine. Doped up to the eyeballs on chlorphenamine and loratadine here today too. You can taste the pollen in the air. Woke up at 4am with lungs squeaking like an old church organ. Tried to go back to sleep but the tune my lungs were playing kept waking me back up.
I’ve just made myself a nice cup of lemon tea and I’m going to do very little for the rest of the day. Hope you’re all having a nice chilled one too.

rugbymummy · 14/06/2020 13:40

Oh and on a positive note, did anyone see the man from Imperial on Marr this morning? He sounded really positive about vaccine development. I felt quite buoyed up by it.

Is2020OverYet · 14/06/2020 13:50

This is the Welsh letter, in English. There were another 5 pages of help and advice with the letter too.

New to the thread. This is a rant and poor me. I can’t reveal to anyone irl. I know a lot of you are going through similar or worse.

Shielding as family member has diabetes. Today I want to go to a shop. (I won’t). I want my life back even the pretty bad new normal.

Thing is I could have it in theory by moving back to my proper home. BUT I’d be living alone without the support that I need just generally. I have disability including ASD that I can manage normally but now would be overcome with depression as won’t have access to the gym/cafes/cinema/shops.

Counting the many blessings I have and waiting for this to be over. In a dark place.

plus3 · 14/06/2020 19:19

Hi everyone- feeling ridiculously worried about tomorrow...actually don’t know what I want at this moment

Egghead68 · 14/06/2020 19:25

@plus3 I doubt they’ll make any announcements tomorrow if that’s what’s worrying you. They said they would review shielding in the week beginning 15th June I think.

Is2020OverYet · 14/06/2020 19:54

@Medicaltextbook I know how you feel, and I think a lot of people on this thread do too.

I hate shielding. I hate feeling so bloody helpless. On Saturday a friend picked up a veg box and some bread for me from a restaurant that has started doing groceries and takeaways. I had ordered and paid online. About 15 minutes after they picked it up my phone rang, it was the restaurant apologising that they'd forgotten to put some items in my veg box and was I able to pop back and pick them up. I would love to be able to pop back, but I can't go in because of shielding. So I had to ask my friend to go back, which made me feel awful. My friend didn't mind at all, but I just felt so useless not being able to sort stuff out myself. I ended up in tears (again) because I felt so frustrated.

When I tell people I'm shielding most people are really shocked. I have asthma, but it is well controlled and normally I am fit and active. I'm the kind of person who swims 100 lengths before work. Suddenly I'm this helpless person who can't even do their own food shopping. It really sucks.

Anewuser · 14/06/2020 19:59

@LucyTrainsDragons
Yes I’m dreading tomorrow.
I’ve had a lovely day as it’s my birthday but like @rugbymummy I’m worried they’re going to say shielding in England finishes 30th June and we can all go back to work. I would love to get back to school to say goodbye to the year 6 children (or half of them due to the bubbles) but the thought of the virus still being out there and knowing I could bring it back to my DS petrifies me.

UnholyStramash · 14/06/2020 20:06

Hello, everyone. I find signing into MN a bit of a palaver, especially as I don’t read or feel like participating many threads. But here I am now. Grin

Thanks to @MarieVanGoethem for the info on vegan delicacies. I’ve ordered a few little treats which are apparently in the post already. Fingers crossed for tomorrow. While I’m not vegan (too lazy) I am a vegetarian of many decades and it’s always nice to see what’s available.

@outnumberedwoman, I have perennial rhinitis (all-year round hay fever symptoms) - for the last while what’s worked for me is a Loratidine tablet each day and Nasobec Aqueous nasal spray twice a day.

UnholyStramash · 14/06/2020 20:25

Happy birthday to @Anewuser. I’m glad you’ve had a good day.

I’m sorry so many of you are finding the uncertainty so stressful. I hope you get an appropriate and clear announcement from the U.K. government tomorrow. I’m sticking wi Nic’s guidance these days - though I do listen to the UKG’s statement most days, I find the Scottish gov so much clearer and obviously as I’m in Scotland it’s more relevant to me.

Hello to @Medicaltextbook, I’m sorry you’re finding your situation difficult- I think we all are really. I do try to just look at the stuff I CAN do rather than what I cannot just now but there are days when that feels impossible. One step at a time - though even though I try to do that I find myself wondering if I’ll get a new letter or will I be told I don’t need to shield any more? (Idk how realistic that is just now).

FuzzyPuffling · 15/06/2020 08:13

Just popping in to wave at you all in the Week We Might Hear.
I'm watching breakfast news on the BBC and it is ALL about shopping. "Look at this gift shop that's opening... here's Wendy who hasn't slept because she is so excited about her craft shop opening". Not ONE mention of the review of the forgotten 2 million.
I probably expect too much.

And Is2020 I absolutely concur with your feelings about your veg box. I hear you.

midgetem · 15/06/2020 08:39

Hi all, thought I would check in, as I'm worried what this week will bring, on one hand I want to see family, get out and about a bit more, on the other hand any walk I do sends me into a panic. I can't find a happy medium. But at the same time, some one I know has apparently received a text from UK gov telling her to sheild until end of August (I haven't had one) and that just made me cry. I will wait for the announcement and hope for the best. I think people have forgotten about us. Even my family asked what I was doing for fathers day and when was I going to see my Dad. Had to remind them that I'm in sheilding and not allowed to see him.

iVampire · 15/06/2020 09:52

I can really identify with this - though I envy you your swimming prowess (I’m useless!) I used to be half marathon for as my base level, and was in training for the London Marathon when we got banged up. The decision on whether that can go on the October date is due to be announced this week too

I can now walk quite well for short distances in the fracture boot, so at least something is going well.

It’s another hot and sunny day here today. But I have no plans whatsoever

Megatron · 15/06/2020 10:21

@LucyTrainsDragons Are they making an announcement tomorrow regarding shielding in England? I can't seem to find any information anywhere and that's stressing me out. It's only a couple of weeks til the end of June and I want to prepare myself for either going back to work (in a school Hmm) or if I need to shield for longer.

I think I'm finding not knowing what's going on more stressful than anything else.

iVampire · 15/06/2020 10:39

The original first wave letters said at least 12 weeks, which expires today (I had text on first day and letter the next one)

Government websites then changed that to the end of June for everyone. We now have the devolved authorities setting new timelines, and England really needs to announce something soon

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 15/06/2020 10:48

i hope they tell us today whats happening. I can cope with it whatever it is as long as i KNOW. the not knowing is awful and so depressing.

Didkdt · 15/06/2020 11:11

12 weeks ago I was living for today then I pinned my hopes on 30th and now.....

Is2020OverYet · 15/06/2020 11:42

The Welsh Government didn't extend to the end of June, we were still running with the original end date of today. They updated it around 2 weeks ago to August 16.
Is2020OverYet · 15/06/2020 11:46

12 weeks ago today I had a haircut at 8am (my hairdresser was squeezing as many clients as possible in before she had to close), grabbed a takeaway coffee from Nero and went to the office to pick up my laptop and anything else I needed for working from home. Although I thought it likely I'd be in the shielding category I'd kept working from the office as cases were so low locally and there were only 4 of us in a fairly large office space.

It feels like a lifetime ago.

Redcherries · 15/06/2020 12:19

Blimey, 13 weeks ago today I was repatriated from New Orleans! Got home on the Tuesday morning and have been out for a couple of drives and 5 walks since! The three months prior I travelled through five countries with a few stops at home, just a slight life change! Very grateful that one of those trips was to Canada via America to see an elderly relative in hospital, she's doing ok now (in fact she got out of lock down yesterday and was excited to be able to go downstairs to the dining room in her care home :) )
