I'm more of a lurker as I struggle to keep up. Hello to all.

My young teen has been shielding for 80 days today (asthma), and I've been in for 97 days (other disabilities, only vulnerable).

We live in a busy area, which has been moderate for Covid infections/deaths.

I have mixed feelings about the new rules, and am hoping that the briefing later might provide enough info to make a decision either way.

WinstonWolf · 31/05/2020 12:18

Just to add, we have no garden (it's a shared yard which our neighbours hog), and so we've not left the house at all.

Seems quite a terrifying prospect.

Judiwench · 31/05/2020 12:44

I read on another thread about shielding being reset. Posters are adamant a second and third letter stating this has been sent out. It's just the "keep shielding" letter which is badly worded isnt it? Theres no way theyd still be banging on about 30 june if they had already reset.

DragonTrainedByLucy · 31/05/2020 12:49

That poster was me - and obviously yesterday's news resets everything.

I'll try and get my letter back from my employer and photograph it this week. Know there were others though that received them and checked with their consultants.

DragonTrainedByLucy · 31/05/2020 12:52

Ah, weird change of wording on the BBC headline now it includes some.

"Coronavirus: Some people shielding allowed outdoors from Monday"

FML. I really hope they have not just got everyone's hopes up and are backtracking now due to the outcry from doctors.

Judiwench · 31/05/2020 12:53

That poster was me - and obviously yesterday's news resets everything.

What? No it doesn't?

Judiwench · 31/05/2020 12:54

Coronavirus: Some people shielding allowed outdoors from Monday

Because nothing has changed in NI and Scotland.

DragonTrainedByLucy · 31/05/2020 12:55

@judiwench - Well, we are allowed outside now for once a day with household or one other person so yes it does. They said they will make a further announcement tonight on it as well.

Judiwench · 31/05/2020 12:56

DragonTrainedByLucy it changes things, but it doesn't reset.

Judiwench · 31/05/2020 12:57

(I would add that even this conversation shows how badly the government have fucked up. Posters are telling us we should take responsibility for ourselves. How can we when the government cant even be consistent)

Potentialmadcatlady · 31/05/2020 13:04

Lord it just makes everything worse doesn’t it.. I’m shielding teens so you can imagine the fun I’m going to have this week...
‘But Mum Boris says I can go out’
‘Look outside the window son at the park- can you socially distance ourselves there?’
‘But Mum Boris says it’s ok’
‘Yes Son but do you trust a word Boris says?’
‘No Mum but...’
‘But what son?’
‘Oh you are So annoying Mum’

Egghead68 · 31/05/2020 14:15

How are you today. @BanKittenHeels?

guessmyusername · 31/05/2020 14:49

Hi, I'm new to the thread and looking for some help. Dh is shielding as he is on immunosuppressants. We are in Scotland. He got his initial letters but did not register for texts as he does not require food boxes. He gets his prescriptions delivered. He did get a phone call from the doctor a few weeks ago. He has heard nothing since. I have heard of people no longer needing to shield, others shielding now to end of June. Anyone any idea how much longer he needs to shield for?? I am running out of jobs for him to do, but the garden is looking good!

Judiwench · 31/05/2020 14:52

guessmyusername the Scottish guidance hasnt changed. I wrote to my MP who responded that basically they're working on it. They're not giving much away as to whether it will be extended or not.

Judiwench · 31/05/2020 14:53

He should register for texts though. Thankfully we are not being advised to take up sudoku but I got food delivery slots. It's best to sign up whether he needs anything or not.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 31/05/2020 15:16

I've had so much crap today on all the various social media platforms, I posted a status asking for the specialist centres for my sons illness to please weigh in on the announcement as they've gone from 0-60 overnight.
Omg the abuse! I didn't realised that asking experts to give an option on something that is related to them was so atrocious.
My sons team have been treating him for 15 years, they know his condition inside out, a phone call would be bloody nice after 10 weeks!
I've asked, called, emailed and been told, "we're looking into what's best, sit tight."

"The drs are all working hard, think for yourself!"
"Use common sense, it's not their responsibility to tell you what to do"
"You're never happy, miserable locked down and miserable when released"
"We've waisted enough time for people like you, put up and shut up!"

AngryAngryAngryAngry

DragonTrainedByLucy · 31/05/2020 15:21

@TitsalinaBumSquash who were those comments from?!

NervousInYorkshire · 31/05/2020 15:23

That's disgusting Angry Sad @TitsalinaBumSquash

I'm waiting for chaos to unfold this afternoon- scary neighbour has a sound system set up at the back (no music - yet Hmm ) and a bbq at the front, which you can't see from the road.

I can't get to the bins and I'm the only one in our flats that takes them out. I missed last month's recycling, it's due again tomorrow morning, and he's left bags of dog shit on top of the full bins..

If anyone hears a small explosion from the north this afternoon, don't worry- it's just me finally telling him what I think of him.

OculusThrift · 31/05/2020 15:32

Social media is shite Tits, ignore the idiots.

I am on the unofficial shielding FB group, it was very supportful until some of them were interviews by radio/tv and then it got trolled by people telling everyone to get a grip and to stop being dramatic.

Egghead68 · 31/05/2020 15:47

Haters gonna hate @Tits

BlackBucketOfCheese · 31/05/2020 15:52

"We've waisted enough time for people like you, put up and shut up!"

^ revolting.

Much like the thread on the Coronavirus topic yesterday.

LucyTrainsDragons · 31/05/2020 16:14

Government will reassess shielding guidance on 15th June 2020, probably checking the R rate I would assume.

Flossie44 · 31/05/2020 16:17

Gov announcement said we can go out once a day as of tomorrow but they expect to extend shielding further than 30th June. I’m confused!! (Doesn’t take much!🤪)
Can anyone explain?!

Egghead68 · 31/05/2020 16:18

They said in the press briefing shielding is likely to be extended beyond 30 June (which they lied and said had been the original end-date - actually 15 June). They will review it every 3 weeks, first week beginning 15 June (as LTD says), following which the NHS will write to all of us on the list. They stressed shielding is “advisory” not compulsory and did not mention financial support for those unable to work from home.

Egghead68 · 31/05/2020 16:24

@Flossie44 letting us out tomorrow is basically to help Boris Johnson’s popularity and to displace less favourable stories from the front pages of the Sunday newspapers. According to the government’s own plan, we were to be allowed out only at “level 1” of covid risk. The risk level is currently “level 4”. The other reason they are letting us out tomorrow is to sweeten the pill that shielding is to be extended indefinitely, albeit with regular reviews, which they basically announced today (they must have feared loads of negative publicity if they didn’t offer us some concession in return).

I hope this clarifies.

In my opinion this is all political and nothing to do with the objective risks to us having fallen to a safe level (which, as we are still independently assessed to be at level 4, they haven’t).
