The term 'Susan'

AnotherOneReally · 26/05/2020 23:30

Does it get on anyone else's nerves?
Stacey Solomon always uses it. She put a vote up about her doing a book vote yes or no. I was in the 2% that said no and her response was 'there is always a couple of Susan's'. Would rather not see a book by you that's all. Guess I'm a Susan now!
I'll be a Karen next week probably... Hmm

Susan was so last year.
It’s Karen.

Sparklingbrook · 26/05/2020 23:35

I am sick of 'Karen' but I quite like 'Susan' that SS uses. IIRC the Susans don't like her bedding. Grin

Igotta · 26/05/2020 23:36

Haha I said no too. I like her but don't want a book on how to turn an old yogurt pot into a pencil case.

nasalspray · 26/05/2020 23:37

It's what stupid people say to try and look clever, without realising it makes them worse than the person they are referring to.

SpillTheTeaa · 26/05/2020 23:41

how to turn an old yogurt pot into a pencil case.

This made me laugh so much Grin

Cupcakegirl13 · 26/05/2020 23:49

There’s a story behind why she uses the term Susan I can’t remember exactly what it is but it does have significance

Ponoka7 · 27/05/2020 00:19

I think using both names is sexist and ageist.

maras2 · 27/05/2020 04:38

I had a cat called Susan.
She was beautiful.
< probably missing point of thread >

Kokeshi123 · 27/05/2020 04:43

Funny how it's usually women's names that get used like this.

Susan is the new generic insult for some reason, I think she just jumped on that bandwagon tbh. I hate when I see someone use Karen/Susan/insert name here as an insult, it makes me cringe with embarrassment. It's always used when someone just can't think of anything sensible to say and think if makes them sound clever and superior. Usually shortly after telling everyone else to #BeKind.

I like(d) Stacy but recently I've considered that she's maybe not quite as nice as I had thought.

Disclaimer - my name is not Susan or Karen. (grin)

Yes and often by other women. 🙄

OzziePopPop · 27/05/2020 05:27

Weirdly I have an auntie Susan and a sil called Karen (who is a bit of a Karen)!

OzziePopPop · 27/05/2020 05:28

Should have added, we get on fine with both!

DamnYankee · 27/05/2020 05:55

Does anyone remember the film Monsters v. Aliens?
Seth Rogan's character: "Suuuusan..!"

HouseOfSticks · 27/05/2020 07:59

Can’t stand her. She’s uses it as a way to “other” people who don’t agree with her on absolutely everything.

HouseOfSticks · 27/05/2020 08:00

I have an auntie Susan and an auntie Karen

AnnieJ1985 · 27/05/2020 08:09

I think there literally was a Susan who sent nasty DMs to her about either her appearance or kids, which Stacey called her out on. I think that is fair enough.

I don't think it is fair to call everyone who disagrees with her on trivial things "Susan" though.

Bargainhuntbore · 27/05/2020 08:12

I’ve never heard of the term.

But to her I’m a Susan then. Cant stand her, once she opens her mouth... poor Joe.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 27/05/2020 08:13

I have an auntie Karen. She's a twat. But not in the meme way, she's a con artist and a thief instead.

CrazyCatMamma · 27/05/2020 08:18

I like the Karen insult. My sil is Karen and I can’t stand her...mainly because of her ‘Karen’ behaviour

NekoShiro · 27/05/2020 08:29

Haven't we always had some kind of name stereotype joke, when I was younger and into fiction writing in primary/secondary school writing an overly perfect character in your story was called creating a Mary sue, or a Gary stu, and that traces back to 1973, so that's almost 50 years old.

Baileystruffle · 27/05/2020 08:29

I hate it. It's really rude to anyone actually called Susan or Karen, probably makes them feel bad about themselves, their names and really defensive.

Megatron · 27/05/2020 08:30

It just all sounds so silly and like she's about 14. Can't be doing with nonsense like that.

SoupDragon · 27/05/2020 08:32

I like the Karen insult

Would you like it so much if the insult used your name or that of your child?

ChaToilLeam · 27/05/2020 08:34

I get really fed up with the Karen and Susan jokes. Lazy and annoying now, and clearly targeted at women who are fifty-ish (and probably don’t put up with much crap from others).
