The term 'Susan'

Does it get on anyone else's nerves?
Stacey Solomon always uses it. She put a vote up about her doing a book vote yes or no. I was in the 2% that said no and her response was 'there is always a couple of Susan's'. Would rather not see a book by you that's all. Guess I'm a Susan now!
I'll be a Karen next week probably... Hmm

@SoupDragon

I like the Karen insult

Would you like it so much if the insult used your name or that of your child?

Honestly? I would not give a fuck
Strugglingtodomybest · 27/05/2020 09:39

This is the first I've heard of Susan being used as an insult, we've moved on then, since Sharon and Tracy?!

SoupDragon · 27/05/2020 09:48

Honestly? I would not give a fuck

You might if you or your child had to put up with a load of teasing.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/05/2020 09:49

Can't say it bothers me. I wouldn't care if it was my name either.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/05/2020 09:51

There are male equivalents. Kyle is one.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 27/05/2020 09:54

It’s ageist and misogynist.

Megatron · 27/05/2020 09:56

Can't say it bothers me. I wouldn't care if it was my name either.

But it's not your name being used as an insult so I suppose it's easy to say that. Maybe you would feel differently if it were.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/05/2020 09:58

Megatron I wouldn't. Because I think it's a silly thing to get worked up about. People are over sensitive. It's a name.

80sMum · 27/05/2020 10:00

I've seen the terms "Karen" and "Susan" and also sometimes "Janet" used. I have no idea what they are supposed to mean or convey though! To me, they are merely women's names.

I've obviously missed a memo somewhere!

PickUpAPickUpAPenguin · 27/05/2020 10:04

People use name insults on here all the time- Tarquin, Jocasta, Wendy, Kevin...

Being a Karen is more extreme than taking no shit and being a CF.

Nobody thinks that everyone called Karen behaves like a Karen. I suppose it's misogynistic as there are few Male name stereotypes but I find that women use these insults more than men in the first place.

onlinelinda · 27/05/2020 10:06

It's all very silly and school yard to use people's names as an insult.

Blossom513 · 27/05/2020 10:22

Funny (not) how the positive name stereotype is male - be like Bill

Bearnecessity · 27/05/2020 10:36

Great..now my name has become a generic insult...things are just getting better and better...

BogRollBOGOF · 27/05/2020 11:00

Women's names are more susceptible to fashion and being associated with a particular generation than men's names.
John could be any man born before the 90s when it finally slipped out of the top 10 after generations. The same core of male names have been used for generations dye to patriachal naming and a range of Biblical options. That has weakened more in the last few decades, but these generations just get lumped as "millenials" or "snowflakes" if someone is feeling particularly offensive.

Women's names typecast and stereotype more easily than men's.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 27/05/2020 21:00

I find that women use these insults more than men in the first place.

Which is very disappointing.
