I’ve not been before, but someone told me it’s a bit of a bugger to park near the the sea front ?

Yes

savetti · 26/05/2020 22:46

The centre is all little pedestrian roads like lots of Cornish villages
It's very busy in high season
There are a couple of car parks

tessiegirl · 26/05/2020 22:47

Don't go

Stuckforthefourthtime · 26/05/2020 22:50

Nearly impossible. We use park and ride with buses.

Out of interest, if you're from a long way away (which you must be, not to know about the St Ives parking situation), are you planning to make a trip? Because it's still meant to be day trips only, and Cornwall has fewer than 20 intensive care beds, most locals are still pretty against the massive influx of daytrippers resuming.

A few years ago my MIL came to stay and we took her to St Ives for lunch as she had never been. We left my husband in the car queuing for the car park, went and had lunch and came back before he had got a space. It is very tricky to park close in. You can park further out and walk in, or take a train.

RhymesWithOrange · 26/05/2020 22:52

November? Fine. April - October? Not fine.

Park at St Earth and take the train in. It's much more fun and stress free.

RhymesWithOrange · 26/05/2020 22:53

*St Erth

megletthesecond · 26/05/2020 22:54

When we went I'm sure we used the park and ride train.

BillieEilish · 26/05/2020 22:55

Impossible. Take a bus.

Planning on booking holiday for July somewhere in U.K.

The parking in St Ives is hell on Earth, horrendous! We had a holiday cottage next to a car park and it could take hours to get a space. It’s better to park the next town along and get the train one stop into St Ives.

Homescar · 26/05/2020 22:56

Not a chance. You park up in a car park high up above the town. Even when we used to rent houses there that came with parking, often it was nowhere near the house, but in a little car park on the edge of town. Which frankly was just as well — the streets are tiny. One year when we unloaded in the little lane in front of the house, I thought we’d never get back out.

JudyCoolibar · 26/05/2020 22:56

I recommend the park and ride - the journey on the train is down the coastline and the views are utterly beautiful.

BeakyFace · 26/05/2020 22:56

Park further away and get the little train in to St Ives. It's a lovely little trip with gorgeous views.

megletthesecond · 26/05/2020 22:57

You won't be going in July 🙄.

This.

It’s not worth driving into St. Ives.

That said, I’m not a fan of St. Ives anyway. Lots of nicer spots around.

BillieEilish · 26/05/2020 22:58

A better question might be, 'Can we all squeeze down the streets, walking?'

Parking? NOPE. No way.

JudyCoolibar · 26/05/2020 22:58

Want somewhere with a nice sandy beach

Definitely the right place to go for that, it's got five of varying sizes, all within walking distance. Also plenty to do to keep adults sane.

However, that is in normal times - no idea what it is going to be like in July this year.

HelloDulling · 26/05/2020 22:59

The train journey into St Ives is lovely. The parking is hellish.

Dyrne · 26/05/2020 22:59

I wouldn’t go in July. Even if UK travel is allowed, chances are you’ll get your car vandalised and some sort of abuse

june2007 · 26/05/2020 22:59

Hard to park anywhere in st ives Cornwall.

IFancyANamechange · 26/05/2020 23:00

Holidays wont be happening in July.

Lardlizard · 26/05/2020 23:04

Actually aug, I’m booking something you can cancel so if hotels don’t reopen on 4th July, there’s still a strong chance they will aug and worse case they don’t, well will have to make do with day trips

I live locally and it's impossible to get parked best bet would be to park at Penzance and get the train in that's what we do, but I wouldn't expect the warmest welcome this year as it's difficult times, we only have one hospital and a lot of locals fear the tourism will bring the virus to our doors so the saying's been come back later/come back next year.
We do desperately need tourism but we need our loved ones well too.
