HELP! Tissue paper hair dye issues

Juzzi4 · 26/05/2020 18:23

Has anyone tried the tissue paper hair dye and had trouble removing it? I did it on my daughter's hair 6 weeks ago and can't get it out. Even with head and shoulders and bicarbonate of soda it won't go. Anyone else had this problem??? It's only meant to last a week! HELP! My daughter currently has green/blue hair with a patch of orange as some colours have come out but others haven't.

Hi @Juzzi4,

Oh dear! We're just bumping this thread for you in case any Mumsnetters are around with some wise words.

Diverseduvet · 28/05/2020 14:33

It's a shame you thought it was a good idea to mess about with your daughter's hair. Have you tried lemon juice?

ShakespearesSisters · 28/05/2020 14:37

We only did the ends, its didn't look very bright but faded in the hot tub which has chlorine in. Try the lemon juice but what about testing milton/sterilising solution on the end of a bit of her hair.

Get some Head & Shoulders or Vosene - crush up some Soluble Vitamin C Tablets, mix with Bicarb & make into a paste with the shampoo.

Put it on & leave for 1/2 an hour. It'll remove some of the colour.

But you haven't dyed your daughter's hair, you've stained it, so it'll be really difficult to remove.

You can also try Bleach London's colour remover (it's designed for stains rather than colours) IME the Vit C method works best.

But, both will leave your daughter's hair in really bad condition.

The sun will also help to bleach the brightness of the colours out.

@Diverseduvet

Bugger off with the judgemental act. Now is the perfect time to try something like this.

@Juzzi4 I wouldn't try anything too harsh, just keep washing it as normal and using loads of conditioner. It'll probably fade in the sun too. Good luck!

bigchris · 28/05/2020 14:48

That's really odd, me and dd were looking at you tube videos of this and it seems to hardly take ! What tissue paper did you use

Ignore the gloomy ones on here, it sounds a great thing fun thing to do in lockdown, same as hair chalk s, perfect time to aojnt nails too when no school !

bigchris · 28/05/2020 14:49

Oops paint ! Agree with mouse Smile

Lucked · 28/05/2020 14:54

What about colour b4- never used it so don’t know if it would damage hair.

I am thinking of doing the ends of DDs hair which need cut off anyway. Wasn’t sure if it was crepe or tissue paper we should use.

Could care less about negative comments. Online everywhere online it said it only last 1 week. She wanted rainbow hair, some colours didn't take like green and orange but the red, purple and blue were very bright. Most of the red and purple are out and now just the blue, looks a very washed out colour but still there. Tried head and shoulders with bicarb for 3 mins and lemon juice. Will try longer and some of the other suggestions, thank you. Very strange as I've googled and can't find one post about anyone else having the same trouble, seems to have come out of everyone else's hair. Was going to do mine too, glad I didn't get around to it 😂

Thanks for explaining Questionable. I didn't realise there was a 'perfect time' to experiment with your child's hair.

QuestionableMouse · 28/05/2020 15:55

One, not your place to judge what someone else does to their kids hair. Two, everyone is stuck at home and the schools seem unlikely to reopen for weeks in many places so why not have a bit of fun? Unclench ffs 🤷🏻‍♀️

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 28/05/2020 15:57

You could try washing up liquid but you will need to condition it thoroughly after.

Diverseduvet · 28/05/2020 16:07

A bit of fun, until it goes wrong then loads of faff. What does unclench mean?

edwardcullensotherwoman · 28/05/2020 16:07

Washing up liquid is great for fading hair colour. How hot was the water you used? If very hot like they suggest in the videos I've seen, it would have opened the cuticles quite a lot and the colour will likely now be sitting underneath, as opposed to on top like temporary things like hair chalk/wax. You'll need to use hot water to open them up again, then wash with washing up liquid.
As an aside, I know loads of people who have done it and I'm not judging at all, but as a hairdresser I'd say it's not good for anyone's hair to use hot water and tissue paper to colour it Smile

YappityYapYap · 28/05/2020 16:17

I'd never heard of doing this so I just googled. I don't see any harm, it seems to be a way to temporarily put colours into hair without chemicals and proper dyes. What about using one of those purple shampoo's? You know the ones that take brassiness out of blonde hair? It might strip it out a bit better than regular shampoo

schoolsoutforcovid · 28/05/2020 16:43

"What does unclench mean?" Grin

Diverseduvet · 28/05/2020 16:58

Does it mean someone is up tight schools out? I'm pretty laid back, I just think if a child wants to dye their hair they should do it themselves. If they are not able to, they are obviously not old enough to dye It.

QuestionableMouse · 28/05/2020 17:10

Good lord you're tiresome @Diverseduvet

RyanBergarasTeeth · 28/05/2020 17:16

Shame the fun sponge doesnt live by you op sounds like she could get the colour out of dds hair with her boring personality. How much hair is it on? I would personally just leave it. It should gradually fade and if its on the ends just snip off.

AHintOfStyle · 28/05/2020 17:19

I just want to know how you got it to work so well!! We've tried 3 times and it won't take at all.

Also @Diverseduvet I'm well old enough to dye my own hair but I still prefer someone else to do it for me.

Diverseduvet · 28/05/2020 17:22

Why name calling Questionable? You could just answer the question, or are you unsure of the meaning yourself?

QuestionableMouse · 28/05/2020 17:23

Unclench means relax, chill out, stop taking this so seriously.

And you're still being tiresome.

Diverseduvet · 28/05/2020 17:24

Thank you for explaining.

PetraDelphiki · 28/05/2020 17:28

Old enough to do it by themselves doesn’t give them arms like an octopus and the ability to see the back of their head!

I’d try washing up liquid myself...

SoupDragon · 28/05/2020 17:32

I'm pretty laid back

Clearly not 😂😂
