Shall we make a list of good non touristy places to visit?

It seems like foreign travel is off for the foreseeable and there are lots of reasons not to visit the busiest tourist spots in UK, so I've decided the next couple of years at least will be spent visiting some less obvious places in UK and getting to know the "real" country.

Where would you aim for?

Just me then Grin

My list has Birmingham, Kent coast, bits of Norfolk away from the resorts. I'm looking forward to finding new places to go.

I really liked Norwich when I visited although it depends on who is going, with kids I'm not sure what there is

Liverpool sounds great. Never been.

The Puppet Theatre in Norwich, kite flying on Mousehold, hiring a boat etc.

For me, just wandering about the Northumberland countryside near the Wall, or the little river valleys, or the various castles dotted about.

BikeRunSki · 23/05/2020 08:24

Surely this list will endorsed visitors and make them touristy??

Kent coast, Norwich and Liverpool are already touristy aren’t they?

Wtfdidwedo · 23/05/2020 08:26

I'm in Wales and the Brecon Beacons tend to be overlooked in favour of Snowdonia, but there are lots of lovely B&Bs and glamping spots.

1moreRep · 23/05/2020 08:27

lancaster, the surrounding countryside is amazing, the trough of bowland is awesome

clitheroe and whalley, beautiful villages, plenty to do in the surrounding areas and lovely shops

cheshire, so many places, delamere is beautiful, tarporley, bunbury, frodsham.

norfolk, wells next to the sea, stunning and so friendly

Ultrasoft · 23/05/2020 08:28

Possibly BikeRunSki but let's spread the love.

If you come to Norwich you also have bewilderwood a little way out which is great for the under 12s.

LidlDonkey · 23/05/2020 08:31

Norwich is full of tourists in the summer. Leave it until winter. The castle may be open again by then which is great for kids.

I'm getting married next year (hopefully🤞) so I'm gonna suggest to fiance that we do a road trip around the UK for our honeymoon. So following for your recommendations!

Redcherries · 23/05/2020 08:38

Kent coast? We get lots of tourists here!

Ultrasoft · 23/05/2020 08:39

I know there are tourists all over but the Kent coast doesn't "suffer" like Cornwall and the Lakes

Yes but let's not share it as it'll get busy.. Let's keep between ourselves 🤣

It's a great idea though...

Have you tried to live in the area on a summer Saturday? It can be totally insufferable.

Ultrasoft · 23/05/2020 08:53

Actually, I think I shall just plan a walking tour of my own county. No one wants us or our money

I'm quite excited about it now.

Just for getting out and about for a drive in the next few weeks, we're going to have a drive around some of our less pretty local market towns/large villages (within 45 mins drive).

Ifailed · 23/05/2020 08:54

Kent coast - which bit, the north coast is mainly mudflats?

PaperMonster · 23/05/2020 08:55

@1moreRep am lucky enough to live in one of them there places! Or a village on the outskirts at least - and it’s very beautiful!

Ultrasoft · 23/05/2020 08:56

Mud flats are really important ecological sites and very interesting to visit

I’d quite like to visit Lincolnshire. We live in the North West and have N Wales, the Lakes and Derbyshire all within easy travelling distance so tend to just stick to our little corner of the country. My sister has recently moved to Lincolnshire and I’m really looking forward to discovering a part of The East.

ScribblyGum · 23/05/2020 08:57

I believe it is flat.

plunkplunkfizz · 23/05/2020 08:58

Very true, extensive bird life, wrecks around Sheppey, lots going on.

I’m not sure why a PP was so puzzled as to which part of the North Kent coast another PP was thinking of. It’s not like Whitstable and Margate are totally unheard of.

TheClitterati · 23/05/2020 08:59

The Kent coast is a hideous & a waste of time. I wouldn't bother going there.

plunkplunkfizz · 23/05/2020 09:02

Hideous...
