Shall we make a list of good non touristy places to visit?

It seems like foreign travel is off for the foreseeable and there are lots of reasons not to visit the busiest tourist spots in UK, so I've decided the next couple of years at least will be spent visiting some less obvious places in UK and getting to know the "real" country.

Where would you aim for?

That is very true. I was surprised to see that there are holiday cottages to let here, a part of Essex generally considered to be a septic spot but we're 30 mins by train to London, 30 mins from the coast with a huge but little used nature reserve on our door step.

@FrameByFrame re Wiltshire and current situation... I drove through Avebury for work reasons on Thursday, main NT car park seems to be still closed, as is Red Lion car park, and I think all the loos are closed too. Avebury and Stonehenge management - they are both jointly run by National Trust and English Heritage - are a bit worried about the Solstice celebrations which are cancelled this year, although several of the usual living vehicles are already parked up locally. Both the Ridgeway car parking areas I regularly pass (West Overton and Hackpen Hill) are usually full at the moment. There never were any loos, so horrid bits of bog roll in the bushes have always been an issue sadly. I am considering going to Salisbury soon though, it had already been hit hard by the poisoning incident and needs our support.

@MoaningMinnie I didn't realise that, as haven't been there in years. Thanks for the update.
