What a fixer upper!
I actually find the photos quite sad. It's obviously been used as a squat house for some years. Really hope whoever gets it gets it back to its former glory.

Wow it's huge. Formerly a school.
It could be glorious with an absolute fortune spent on it.

Pipandmum · 19/05/2020 23:47

It doesn't look like its been used as a squat. It looks like part of it has been lived in (and not much damage to that part) and the rest has been abandoned. Grounds look very well kept.
But you're welcome to it - it could be a hotel or split up into multiple units but it would take very very deep pockets.

SunbathingDragon · 19/05/2020 23:47

That must have been a beautiful house at one stage. Hopefully it will be restored back.

suggestionsplease1 · 19/05/2020 23:48

what a beautiful exterior! A lot of work, but what a size of place for the money!

MarshaBradyo · 19/05/2020 23:49

A bit spooky in places.

Crunched · 19/05/2020 23:54

Oh what a pile!
Is it in a good location for a hotel? Not a good time to find buyers though.

Lavendersquare · 19/05/2020 23:55

That's not far from me, from the outside it looks lovely, I'm actually quite tempted. Then I remember that DH is rubbish at DIY and I'm not much better.

NowSissyThatWalk · 19/05/2020 23:56

Yes good point @Pipandmum
I'd love to know its history.
How much would something like that cost to properly get sorted? I'm assuming there's no electric or plumbing?

OP posts:
Ellmau · 19/05/2020 23:57

So sad. It's Grade II* listed, and it ha been empty for 10 years while the owners tried to get planning permission, I suspect deliberately left to rot to improve their chances of getting permission to gut:

@lavendersquare amazing isn't it
Alas, DH and I messed up painting a bookshelf so perhaps it's a bit above our skillset.

Oh thank you @elimau that's so interesting

Flymetothetoon · 20/05/2020 00:00

I'd be willing if others would!

AntiHop · 20/05/2020 00:05

Reminds me of the house in the TV show Ghosts.

FiveOutOfFiveGoldblums · 20/05/2020 00:07

Beautiful. What's stopping a billionaire restoring it then using it as a 32 room air b+b?!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 20/05/2020 00:08

When I first saw the price. I thought what a bargin. Then I saw the interior.
It's not beyond repair though., and It goes out saying it's got loads going for it.
However it'll certainLy cost more 200K to get it even half liveable.
I bet it's full of woo.

serenada · 20/05/2020 00:10

What would we do it, OP?

I'd turn it into a place where parents of autistic?SEN children could come to rest. It would be fully staffed with physio, chefs and specialist staff to occupy their children with ocuupational/sppech/learning therapies whilst during the day the parents could do activities they wanted.

It would have a fully stacked library and a quiet cinema.

A swimming pool and steam room and self catering facilities.

Outside there would be nature trails and home grown vegetable plots for the children to get close to nature.

There would ba part where the children could be as loud and noisy as they want, but another wing where things were calmer and quiet.

At night time, there would be a glass dome in the garden and you could sleep out under it and look at the stars.

There would be wild swimming in the lake and an orchard for fruit trees with honeysuckle for the bees.

It would be a retreat.

OculusThrift · 20/05/2020 00:13

Love the massive weeping willow in the front.

Some developer will probably buy it and turn it in to luxury flats.

OculusThrift · 20/05/2020 00:14

There is a stage, we could hold Weekly sock puppet theatres.

cakeandchampagne · 20/05/2020 00:15

Beautiful!

serenada · 20/05/2020 00:17

Actually, I think I might just make it a retreat for teachers/teaching assistants.

A break away from being 'Miss' (or Sir).

Toomuchgoingon · 20/05/2020 00:18

That would be an amazing project.........fantastic building.....dread to think how much it would cost to do up

serenada · 20/05/2020 00:20

Structurally it looks OK. It just needs clearing, cleaning, painting and the floorboards replaced. I reckon the mumsnet crew could get that done in a couple of weeks.

jojobar · 20/05/2020 00:35

It's exactly the sort of place I would love to have bought in pre Covid times to set up as a wedding venue/ hotel.

Not a good time to set up that kind of business now though...

Samtsirch · 20/05/2020 00:41

I wonder if any of you know the true history of the building ?
Has anyone researched it or considered the purpose it was originally intended for ?
Or what it was used for ?
