What age were your DC when they had their first cup of tea?

As a very small child I remember drinking chamomile tea (with MILK, thanks mum), because I wanted to drink tea like a grown up - I think I had my first cup of proper tea at my grandma's house when I was 5 or 6.

I just realised, I had no idea what the norm is these days - when did your DCs have their first cuppa?

(I don't think I've ever used the term 'cuppa' before - I quite like it).

Dd and Ds have never had a cup of tea or coffee.

They are late teens

Cosyblanky · 17/05/2020 22:56

Maybe around four or five? Milky and usually with something to dip!

candle18 · 17/05/2020 22:57

DS 3 likes the occasional cup of tea, has done since he was about 6. The older 2 have never had tea or coffee.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/05/2020 22:59

Dd is 8 and since lockd9wn began we have been doing a 10.30am cuppa together. She has it the same way I do, a drop of milk, no sugar. She finishes the mug.

It's a nice little routine.

ParkheadParadise · 17/05/2020 22:59

Both dd's were 1
Dd1 loved her tea. She would happily drink it all day. Both had tea in their bottles.

rvby · 17/05/2020 22:59

Probably age 5, but very sweet and milky, and not his favourite. He is nearly 8 now and I still offer tea when I'm making some but he isnt that keen, maybe once every few months.

Ostanovka · 17/05/2020 22:59

About 3. They drink decaf tea for a tea party. No coffee.

ShanghaiDiva · 17/05/2020 23:01

Ds is nearly 20 and has never drunk tea or coffee.

StayAlert · 17/05/2020 23:02

8 and 14 and never had tea. I've never offered it to them and they've never asked for it.

Younger one asked to taste my coffee once and said it was horrid!

notacooldad · 17/05/2020 23:02

Both were late teens when they were working. I guess it was to fit in. They never bothered drinking it at home.

MotheringShites · 17/05/2020 23:04

I have often wondered if we are going to be the last generation of tea drinkers!

I’m sure many of us tea addicts were introduced to tea as young kids with lots of milk and usually two sugars. Most parents now would faint at the thought of giving their children such amounts of sugar and caffeine!

Longdistance · 17/05/2020 23:05

Dd1 was about 7 when she joined in drinking tea with me. Only one cup a day, but not every day. Dd2, not keen yet, she’s 9. I’m sure there’s time to convert her.
I had tea and coffee from early on. I don’t actually remember as I do remember going to Infants school having tea with breakfast.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 17/05/2020 23:07

I’m not a big tea drinker so it’s never occurred to me to give it to the dc who are still toddlers.

I’m in a mothers’ FB group and someone asked about tea. The amount of people putting it in their babies’ bottles was very surprising, especially as it’s not good for their teeth.

Yellowcakestand · 17/05/2020 23:07

DS occasionally has a weak milky tea. Has done since about 2 at my nans house. Mostly for dunking. This week he actually asked for a cup to drink and finished the lot. He is 4 now

Shelley54 · 17/05/2020 23:08

DS1 (4) will have a small mug and DS2 (2) likes one to take a sip from. Both have decaf and with a biscuit or two to dunk. Maybe once a month or so. It makes them feel like a grown up.

Soen · 17/05/2020 23:10

Mine was 3 and he loved it. He is 4 now and I often make him a brew. Oldest child hates the smell of tea so won't touch it.

Thesearmsofmine · 17/05/2020 23:10

Mine haven’t, I would probably let my 9 year old have the odd cup if he asked but I doubt he will!

I remember getting into tea once I was at uni before that I didn’t drink it.

ExpletiveDelighted · 17/05/2020 23:11

Mine are teens who still don't drink tea or coffee. I didn't drink either regularly till I was an adult either. I drink masses of tea now but only maybe 3 or 4 coffees a week.

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/05/2020 23:11

About 2, she loved a wee milky cup of tea.

IndiaMay · 17/05/2020 23:13

No children but I think I had my first cup at 8 or 9 when we learned to make it at brownies and I wasnt so keen on it. Dont think I bothered drinking it until I was maybe 12 or 13 and I'd have a cup after walking home from school. Coffee I didnt get into until I was about 16 and I used to have a mug of instant once a day. When I was 17 at college I got into proper coffee at coffee shops and loved lattes and cappuccinos

WeeM · 17/05/2020 23:15

Mine was probably about 2 when all I really did was wave the teabag over the cup so it was really just warm watery milk but she liked it and will have a bit stronger now but still milky, lukewarm and with no sugar.

WeeM · 17/05/2020 23:15

Sorry that shouldn’t have been one big massive long sentence!

amazedmummy · 17/05/2020 23:15

I don't know if DS will get into tea and I'd want him to be a decent age before he tried coffee. DH drinks strong black coffee and I don't drink tea or coffee so I'm not sure if/when he would get the idea.

FromDespairToHere · 17/05/2020 23:16

DD used to occasionally have very weak very milky tea from about 2. She's 20 now and doesn't like it, the weirdo 😁

Ronnie27 · 17/05/2020 23:18

Dc at 11 and 8 don’t drink it. I sometimes make the youngest his own cup of tea when he has biscuits he wants to —ruin— —mine— —with— dip but he woudn’t drink it out of choice.

I’ve enjoyed a nice cuppa since maybe age 12, younger at my aunt’s house as she used to make it very sweet and milky which my mother didn’t allow. Grin
