Coming over from a post that I created that had me thinking. How old do you think is too old to ttc?

don't want to put an age on it - if it's meant to be, it'll be.............

Lular3110 · 17/05/2020 19:55

Each to their own - Whatever feels right for you xx

  1. Although I don't give you much hope after 45. I know plenty of people who had healthy children at 42,43 yo.
zaffa · 17/05/2020 20:56

I don't think there is an upper age. I've just turned 38 and had my first at 37. I personally feel too old for a second but that's because I was sick through out pregnancy and had a long labour ending up in emergency section so I was exhausted. My pregnancy was uncomplicated from a medical perspective but it was exhausting and I couldn't imagine doing it again with DD to look after too.

Having said that, if I'd been one of the people who have an easy pregnancy then I would most likely not feel too old to try again in a couple of years.

It's up to each person - good luck if you're thinking about it x

At an age where you feel physically unable to keep up with the demands of a toddler.. I feel it now at 25 Grin

Squidgyflump · 17/05/2020 21:02

I had first at 37 after ttc for 6 years. Then was shocked to find myself pregnant with my second and had Dd2 just before my 40th.

Mucklowe · 17/05/2020 21:04

Mid forties?

I'm pregnant for the first time at 39, and would like to squeeze at least one more in. Maybe two more. I'll stop if I get to 44/45 and no joy.

CrazyTimesAreOccurring · 17/05/2020 21:04

42

Overseasmom100 · 17/05/2020 21:04

I was 38 when had 1 and only. Husband was 45. DS hates the fact we are 'old' compared to his friends parents Confused

Curious200 · 17/05/2020 21:07

Interesting! I had my twins at 25. I'm now 30 and if I were to have another (most likely I will not) I would wait until I'm around 35/36 and I thought that would be too old, but it's good to see that's its not.

I think 45 is my approximate cut off. I conceived my baby at 40, born at 41. We probably won’t try for a second but if we did it would be before 45 (am 42 now).

Curious200 · 17/05/2020 21:11

And did you all conceive naturally? I thought fertility declined after mid thirties

pastaparadise · 17/05/2020 21:12

Overseasmom how old is your dc now?

It worries me as i had dc at 39 and 41 so am older than most mums. My mum was 36 when she had me (youngest of 3) and i was always conscious of it in my teens. I don't want dc to be embarrassed of me Sad

KatharinaRosalie · 17/05/2020 21:12

Mother nature says after menopause

Maryfloppins · 17/05/2020 21:15

Personally I think 45 as I wouldn’t want to be coming up to retirement and still juggling the whole paying for uni etc or even having a dependent still living at home .

GoatCheeseTart · 17/05/2020 21:16

I would wait until I'm around 35/36 and I thought that would be too old

I had my first when I was 35 and was the youngest in our NCT class. And all couples had another child 2 years later as well.

Megan2018 · 17/05/2020 21:25

@Curious200 I conceived naturally, no charting, no ovulation testing etc in less than a year of not really trying very hard.

Helbelle17 · 17/05/2020 21:29

I told myself 45. I'm not sure whether I would have stuck to that though.
I had DD1 41 and DD2 is 12 days old and I'm 44. Both conceived naturally, no problems during pregnancy and both healthy.
I am struggling with the lack of sleep, but I think I would have done 20 years ago as well!

Settle59 · 17/05/2020 21:31

Congratulations Helbelle on your new baby!! x

SheWranglesRugRats · 17/05/2020 21:37

For a man or a woman?

Itwasntme1 · 17/05/2020 21:41

I think 45 Ish for both parents.

But there has been ferocious debate on here, partIcularly about men.

I was called ageist and nasty for saying I considered a 58 year old man too old become a dad to a newborn😬😳.

isitamapletree · 17/05/2020 21:47

Approx 42 for a woman and approx 50 for a man for me personally.

I wouldn't want to carry a baby much older than that, my two wreaked havoc on my body when I was 10 years younger. I also think sleepless nights are harder to cope with as you get older and energy levels are lower. As men don't have the physical strain of pregnancy and childbirth I feel they can get away with being older as long as they're in decent shape.

As I approached 60 I would want to know my children will pretty much be adults by that point.
