Toddler Translator Required

Anybody bored and would like to help me translate the word 'mim'? 22mo DS says it, normally in the morning pointing at the shelves but says no to everything I point to until I give up. He also says it during the day occasionally. I'm starting to think it's not an item, but an expression for a feeling? Confused

He has a twin sister who is not bothered by 'mim' in the slightest and just gets on with her business while he struggles to make me understand.

Help?!

My DD calls fireworks bang stars and farts are bum beeps 🙂 hoping they will continue to be so as she gets older!

AcrossthePond55 · 15/05/2020 23:47

Driving down the road DS2 kept up a sing-song chorus of "Lor-see-mook, lor-see-mook" over and over. We couldn't figure out what he was singing about. DS1 rolled his eyes and said "Horses and (moo) cows, of course".

CherryValance · 15/05/2020 23:48

Oh and we had great excitement if a 'Poobah' was spotted. That was a postbox - he was a big Pat fan.

UnicornPug · 16/05/2020 00:10

Dd used to pretend to be on the phone. She’d ‘yes’ and ‘no’ animatedly, then every conversation ended ‘bitabotabye... BYE!’ She used the same inflection every time. We have it on video and we Still have no idea what she was saying.

MillicentMartha · 16/05/2020 00:16

DS1 had only a few words, but he made them count.

Onj meant orange I think, but he used it for juice, or an apple, or a crayon of any colour. He’d point to something bright blue and say, ‘onj!’

Mut meant milk, or water or the sea or a river.

Wall meant anything made of blocks, Lego, a house, block paved drive.

Ee oo meant ‘look at that’ I think, or aeroplane. We live near a local airport and we get a lot of small planes flying over, he’d point up at them and say ‘ee oo!’

He’s 22 now. Grin

Apparently I used to call Smarties "faddies". I can't remember many of DS's little sayings but we still say "mulk" for milk, "tustard" for custard and "pelipoppop" for helicopter.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 16/05/2020 00:28

Oh I remember one really adorable one. DH was a postman and used to get a lift to DS's nursery after his round from one of the van drivers who lived by us. DH would load DS into the van in his car seat, the buggy would go in the back. Post vans have, for the last 18 years, been known as "daddy's taxi".

FoxyBadger · 16/05/2020 00:29

We still call Shreddies noo noos as that's what DS1 called them. No idea why!

He also hated hot drinks/steam/the kettle and we still say "No tot" (has to be done with a vigorous shake of the head) if something is too hot to eat or drink.

He's 16 now...Grin

ScrambledSmegs · 16/05/2020 00:46

DD1 started asking frantically for 'doodah' when she was v little (no more than 18 months old). We spent ages offering her toy police cars/ambulances/fire trucks, thinking it was a siren noise.

Water. She wanted water Grin

Lalanbaba · 16/05/2020 01:20

@UnicornPug she was saying "I gotta go bye bye"
Love this thread

vampirethriller · 16/05/2020 07:01

vampirethriller · 16/05/2020 07:02

And OOS DATT?? when the phone rings.

dododooo · 16/05/2020 09:15

My toddler has adopted "fackfock" for breakfast. Therefore most days I am greeted by "fackfock mummy!" Grin

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 16/05/2020 09:43

DD used "Hoff" for light switches, as in they were something you turned off. Food she liked was nice, modified by its Tellytubbie colour. Orange juice was la-la nice, strawberries were po nice. Gravy however was poo nice, which caused DM to raise an eyebrow.

CoronaIsComing · 16/05/2020 10:04

@Mylittlepony374 DS used to say ‘mag’ he’d say mah when he kissed you too and ask for a mah 😂😂😂

TitianaTitsling · 16/05/2020 10:17

@YippeeKayakOtherBuckets Yes! White soup= fromage frais! Haven't been able to get the wee pots so buying the big tubs and serving in his bowl. So obvious now!

TimeWastingButFun · 16/05/2020 10:19

My son when he was two called the (as it would happen unfortunately overweight) neighbour a fat troll. Loudly. It took a few awkward moments (luckily before I said 'now that's not a very nice thing to say') before we realised that he'd dropped his plastic Fat Controller Thomas toy out of the buggy a little way back.

Justgotobed · 16/05/2020 11:18

Love these little sayings Smile Ds1 now 17 will still sometimes ask for duck pudding & baby oranges.

Dm & ds's name for birds custard & tinned mandarins Grin

BertieBotts · 16/05/2020 11:21

Everything in a can or jar is "bee!" (beans) here, even if it's apple sauce! He loves "beans'.

Khione · 16/05/2020 11:22

When I was little I used to demand to be taken to the zooeum. It was eventually discovered that I wanted to visit the museum in the local park that had a stuffed (and very well worn and raggy) lion in the entrance.

Visiting a windmill once when my son was two. It was quite a steep climb to the top and half way up he started complaining that he didn't like the heavy stairs.

F0RESTGRUMP · 16/05/2020 11:33

@CherryValance - loving Marjorie Taylor 😂😂😂

shellby28 · 16/05/2020 11:46

@zigzagbetty bum beeps has made me HOWL with laughter

Borgonzola · 16/05/2020 12:17

I used to babysit a toddler regularly. We went to the London Aquarium and he was talking animatedly about seeing all the 'spring rolls'. It wasn't until we got to the tank that I realised he was actually talking about 'stingrays' Grin

CherryValance · 16/05/2020 12:25

@F0RESTGRUMP I thought it was unusual name for a nursery friend! Wondered if he was attending Weight Watchers or an allotment group on the sly...

CherryValance · 16/05/2020 12:27

Sunglasses were 'darks', which seemed reasonable
