Toddler Translator Required

Anybody bored and would like to help me translate the word 'mim'? 22mo DS says it, normally in the morning pointing at the shelves but says no to everything I point to until I give up. He also says it during the day occasionally. I'm starting to think it's not an item, but an expression for a feeling? Confused

He has a twin sister who is not bothered by 'mim' in the slightest and just gets on with her business while he struggles to make me understand.

Help?!

I agree you should try lifting him up,

Dd has some happy valley toys and one of them was consistently called ‘tetet’. She’s four now and a few months ago was playing with this particular figure and I finally got my answer! It was ‘detective’!

It’s great when these things reveal themselves Grin

onetwothreeadventure · 15/05/2020 21:03

did you try lifting him up to get whatever he is pointing at, that is my last resort!

I love when toddlers start talking, am in full time translation mode here!

LittleTopic · 15/05/2020 21:04

Mim 🤣

My brother used to shout MELON STRING in relation to a specific song. He’d have a meltdown if my mum didn’t get the song right. It took three months, and one day we cracked it when the song came on the radio.

It was 7 Seconds by Neneh Cherry HmmConfused

You have all made me laugh out loud, thanks!! Grin My toddler is obsessed with the word "mocha". It's the first word besides mama and Dada that she can actually say, but we have no idea what she means. She giggles every time she said it as well... In the prepandemic world I used to work on a coffee shop and my husband says that she's just probably asking for a coffee!

tillytoodles1 · 15/05/2020 21:04

My son used to shout " go way dirty mooman, go way ". It took me a while to realise he was shouting at the ice cream van with a cow on its roof. I'd told him he co couldn't have one as he had no more left.

Samtsirch · 15/05/2020 21:04

He is just saying “ my turn “ or “ what about me”
He is talking to you for your attention and some positive interaction.
Just enjoy it, respond with similar sounds/ gestures and enjoy the game 😊

Mylittlepony374 · 15/05/2020 21:04

My 21 month old says "mim" for kiss. He will hold out a toy and say "mim" "mim" until you kiss it. He always makes the noise when he kisses you too....

Fifipop185 · 15/05/2020 21:05

I've no useful ideas OP sorry, I'm still trying to work out what sounded like "breadsong" was when DD was 2. Shes 16 now...

HarrietSchulenberg · 15/05/2020 21:05

My then 1yo toddler used to howl, "BUGGINS!" in the middle of his tea, flinging his plastic spoon to the floor and gesticulating wildly at the food cupboards. Took a while to translate but what he meant was, "I've had enough of this foul main course, mother. Please remove my plate and deliver me a bowl of tinned fruit salad for my pudding".

He's 19 now and still asks what's for buggins.

Cornettoninja · 15/05/2020 21:06

He's asking the time

Actually I wondered if you’ve a clock on your shelf and he’s saying minutes. Maybe he’s wondering how long something is going to be?

DamnYankee · 15/05/2020 21:10

This is making me laugh!
Perhaps he's just making sure you're paying attention and likes this morning ritual? As long as he's not throwing tantrums, it's just one for the baby book. Bet his sister will be able to "translate" for you in a few months.
I could go for some bips and nocnocs right about now, perhaps with Jake Willard...Grin

TheCanyon · 15/05/2020 21:11

Have you asked his sister? My dds chat was bad, still isnt very clear sometimes, I 99% have understand her but occasionally have to ask her her twin brother wtf shes saying. He understands her, always has fuck knows how

Samtsirch · 15/05/2020 21:11

@Windyatthebeach
Dr Zeuss was popular in your house?
😆

dementedma · 15/05/2020 21:11

DS used to eat “manus” which was eggs and ham, and “weetacocs” which were grapes.

SuckingDownDarjeeling · 15/05/2020 21:12

Loving the replies Grin

He says 'mine' very well and the shelves are definitely nowhere near the window. I will try lifting him tomorrow morning but he's so... darn... heavy. I may bottle it.

On another note I'm lucky we don't go out much at the moment because DD very excitedly shouts 'Cok!' When she wants to say 'look' Blush

@HarrietSchulenberg
Brilliant!

SuckingDownDarjeeling · 15/05/2020 21:14

@JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff I'm laughing so much at your twins' morning briefing on the status of the eyes 😂

@SuckingDownDarjeeling
Can't tell you how many of my little students have had a passion for trucks and trains, but their "tr" came out "f" nine times out of ten.
So when my co-teacher or I got the bin of toy vehicles down, you'd hear inevitably hear a cherubic little voice, blissfully calling out..."F*cks! and frains!"

DamnYankee · 15/05/2020 21:21

*Fains, actually...

Mummy2one2016 · 15/05/2020 21:23

Toddlers are so funny when my little boy was little he couldn't say sock. It always came out as fock. He often shouted fock off due to his hatred of socks

LilyFromTheValley · 15/05/2020 21:30

My dd called her pink blanket Bobby. They're just making this shit up as they go along! You may never work it out...

Motherofmonsters · 15/05/2020 21:33

We currently have this with DS. He says huganoose, it's something do with bedtime, blankets and cuddles but we're not a hundred percent sure as he'll use it differently. He got upset today as he asked me to make huganoose and I had no idea what he wanted me to do

SierraHotel · 15/05/2020 21:33

This thread has made me smile. I work in a nursery in a room full of 2 year olds, I'm really missing them as we're closed at the moment.

Windyatthebeach · 15/05/2020 21:35

Ds said blum for milk and his name was Bynn because he couldn't say F's.

ForeverBubblegum · 15/05/2020 21:38

Huganoose I would guess is a derivative of hug and nose. Hug him close and snuggle your face into him.
