How long are people going to clap?

I work for the NHS, clapped the first time was very emotional, all great. I don’t clap anymore more but just got me thinking how long is this supposed to go on? I genuinely thought it was just got one week.

I know money is more helpful but first of all- we already pay for the NHS , second- it's a gesture, just a two minute way to say thank you.

Hairydogmummy · 15/05/2020 09:12

I feel like it's a bit of an empty gesture. The ones who make the biggest fuss round here (fireworks, musical instruments etc) are the same ones sat drinking together and letting their kids play together. Total hypocrisy.

Hopefully will stop ASAP. It means nothing except making the people doing it feel good about themselves so they can post it on social media. We had fireworks set off around here last night, just so unnecessary. The people in my street banging pans are the ones who have consistently broken the rules all through lock down. It's just a joke.

It’s dying out here now thankfully. Although a FB friend made a particularly excruciating post last night featuring a picture of the spoon they’d broken by banging too enthusiastically on their saucepan, such was the depth of their gratitude to the NHS.

the clap in our street lasted exactly 3 minutes and less people coming out so I think in some places it will definitely peter out it feels more like an obligation now and when people are back at work and less isolated they wont feel the need so much to connect with neighbours who they would normally just say hello to if they were passing each other on the street

MarshaBradyo · 15/05/2020 09:56

I forgot last night but last week there were still quite a few. I find things petering out quite odd as no one knows how long but it can’t go on indefinitely. At some point no one will show up.

The older people who all come out of sheltered housing to ban their pans as the nurses drive past on their way home can keep going as long as they like. They are in a labour constituency.
The fuckers in the next village over who do socially distanced Prosecco and fireworks and statistically very likely vote Tory are ridiculous, self congratulatory arseholes and should never have had the audacity to start.

I agree, it will stop when it rains or when people realise they might have to put their money where their mouths/pots and pans are.
