New thread!

Chicken ads for anyone who missed them.

Anyway have fun everyone, I'm off to sit in the park now that it's allowed.

Aren’t all the channels that bad?

I don’t really understand how Chris Whitty can partake in this.

LilacTree1 · 14/05/2020 18:51

Or any of them, tbh.

If they’re not prepared to say “science doesn’t justify this” I have a very low opinion of them.

GroEggAndHam · 14/05/2020 18:55

Fair point Lilac. I like his communication style. Informative without being patronising, which I find reassuring. He doesn't fluster and waffle like our Labrador-esque leader Grin

Drivingdownthe101 · 14/05/2020 18:56

Love the idea of a Chris Whitty patronus Grin.
Agree he communicates more effectively that some of the others.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 14/05/2020 19:04

Had a free half hour this morning so ventured onto a thread about Devon and Cornwall.

OMG.

Apparently their peak is yet to come.....even though it's known widely among people who actually know what they are talking about that they had their peak and it was more of a gentle moorland slope and are now back to normal.....oh but all these SW doctors who people know say differently 🤣🤣

heroku · 14/05/2020 19:16

Just rang my mum to ask if she'd like me to come stay the night next week and she was so happy she burst into tears. We were supposed to be in Spain for a big birthday so I'm going to surprise her with patatas bravas, tortilla and cava etc.

DesmondTheMoonbear · 14/05/2020 19:19

Heroku I hope that you and your Mum have a lovely time together.

Thisdressneedspockets · 14/05/2020 19:19

The dementors are out in force on our local Facebook groups today. Apparently the beach was heaving. I went to investigate ( under ten minute drive) and there was a nice buzz of people enjoying themselves. People looked lighter and brighter.

I struggled for parking as they're keeping carparks closed, but maybe if people annoy residents enough by parking in side streets, the residents will ask the council to open them, rather than being so territorial.

I've given up on the 2m thing and amuse myself by walking through the middle of people having their paired socially distanced walks.

sonjadog · 14/05/2020 19:31

My 78 year old Mum took herself out for a trip in the car today. She found somewhere quiet and ate her lunch looking at the sea. Had no contact with anyone. She sounded so much happier on the phone this evening.

freedomyes · 14/05/2020 19:35

just got back from the seaside, chips on the seafront. Oh it was lovely. A few families on the beach, kids playing.....people just enjoying the weather, chips, sea.

dementors can stay in and fuck off.

Pinkflipflop85 · 14/05/2020 19:37

I was in quite a cheerful mood earlier, as we had been putting I'm loys of plans for our return to school. Lots of positive problem solving from staff etc.

Then the MAT CEO sent an email saying he doesn't want any of the schools in the trust to open....

thesuninsagittarius · 14/05/2020 19:37

@Thisdressneedspockets good to meet a fellow murderer! I never maintained 2 meters from anyone when walking outside because I don't think that's how a virus works. Like you, today, I enjoyed walking through the middle of socially distancing walkers. It makes you worry where people are getting their science from when so many people think the virus will jump from you to them in the billionth of a second while you share the same space.

SomewhereEast · 14/05/2020 19:39

We did the truth + reassurance thing with our DCs from the start without really thinking about it. I was very clear with them that they & most people we know, including DH & I, were perfectly safe (worst case scenario someone might be ill for a few weeks), but we also explained that the virus could be very dangerous for certain groups of people & that we all need to do X, Y & Z to limit the spread & protect others. We don't have the TV or the radio on around them & we don't talk about it much in earshot, because they're really too young (5 and 8) to process things like that aimed at adults. They've coped really well & aren't expressing anxiety directly or indirectly, so its seems to have worked!

Drivingdownthe101 · 14/05/2020 19:40

SomewhereEast that’s exactly how we’ve dealt with it too.

123bananas · 14/05/2020 19:41

My Dad's 70+ year old mate has been going out everyday in lockdown to walk the dog, going to the shops and buy beer from the local brewery, because he is an adult and able to assess the risk for himself.

This is my patronus

@heroku

That's so nice, I hope you and your mum have a lovely Spanish-style time Flowers

My own Mum is 85 and is doing far better than I ever expected. To be honest, she usually 'enjoys ill health' (ie, she likes to talk at length about her ailments and how much more she suffers with them etc) but she's surprisingly stoic. But then she has lived through a war and consequent evacuation, giving birth to 6 children, Hong Kong flu (the year I was born) and a quadruple heart bypass (amongst other operations) so I think her viewpoint is if that lot didn't kill her, it would take a much tougher virus than this to knock her off her perch.

I phoned her today for her food shop order and she asked if I could ring back later as she was off out to do some painting!

IfNotNowThenWhenever · 14/05/2020 19:52

I offered to shop for my 86 year old uncle (I am shopping for other vulnerable family members) and he said "Oh, no. I like my walk to the shops. I think I'll be fine, I'm very healthy you know. I have the heart and lungs of a 40 year old my doctor says" Grin
I think that's fine. He's an adult, he can decide for himself and thank God I don't have to do more shopping!

LivinLaVidaLoki · 14/05/2020 19:58

Hi All! Sorry not joined in for a bit! @Jourdain11 Flowers
Saw this today and it about summed it up for me....

123 “ My Dad's 70+ year old mate has been going out everyday in lockdown to walk the dog, going to the shops and buy beer from the local brewery, because he is an adult and able to assess the risk for himself.”

That’s never been banned though. I think Wancock created the illusion that it was the case, but it wasn’t in the legislation.

heroku Glad to hear it. I want Spanish food now!

DominaShantotto · 14/05/2020 20:02

Clap is bad tonight here- no one is clapping anymore, they’re all on car horns and the twat next door has his clown horn out again.

Cattermole · 14/05/2020 20:02

@Leighhalfpennysthigh you know it's a funny thing, I'm in the SW and I was told about a month ago that ours was estimated to be coming mid-May, and this was from the local strategic partnership board.
So I.... dunno......?
And @123bananas my mum goes to the shop for a paper every day. Bloody proud of my mum I am. She's 80, DV survivor, ex alcoholic, disabled: she's been sober for 12 months and I thought this would have her relapsing. I tell you what, she's fierce AF my old date. (We live about 200 yards apart in a small rural village. We see it each other every day and meh to the bloody lot of them.)

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 14/05/2020 20:03

No clapping in my village tonight, they did for the first few weeks not anymore

bookworm14 · 14/05/2020 20:04

The Clap can piss off. Every bloody week it interferes with DD’s bedtime.

justasking111 · 14/05/2020 20:04

Ah lovely to hear you are seeing family getting back to some normality.

Lovely to see today on our local fb page 87 comments, three saying

I saw a windsurfer out (pic included)
I saw a kayaker (the RNLI disgraceful)
I saw a man rowing a boat (RNLI disgraceful)

Thank god the other 84 comments told them to get a life it is allowed now a form of exercise.

The tide has turned.
