Keir starmer - not too bad eh?

Anybody else feeling a little optimistic labour might be in with a chance with Keir starmer? I was pessimistic during the leadership elections due to abject state of the party and left labour about 3 years ago but starting to think there may be hope, based on evidence so far.

As long he doesnt appease the right at the expense of the marginalised. I'd like to see strong backing of the unions and support for renters during this crisis.

flamegame · 13/05/2020 13:36

See no evidence he won’t do that so far?

I tend to agree OP.

I cautiously agree.

flamegame · 13/05/2020 13:41

Yes cautious optimism only here too! He’s already riled up my momentum mates.

Also cautiously optimistic, although frankly if the British public vote Bojo back in after the current car crash I think I'll leave the country

MarshaBradyo · 13/05/2020 13:43

Yep I like him so far. Very direct. Good at PMQ.

flamegame · 13/05/2020 13:45

Oh I know, if the constituencies in terrible poverty vote for the brexit clown again I’ll give up voting as inefficient and join extinction rebellion.

So much for the party of unity/broad church the centrists wanted. Starmer will need the left come election time.

doesthissoundok · 13/05/2020 13:46

Boris should be stepping down after the shit show he's created/ creating - absolute farce and good to see Keir pressing him on the right issues in PMQ. He's doing a good job so far

Tailsoftheunexpected · 13/05/2020 13:54

Yes, cautiously hopeful that there is now a meaningful opposition that enough people would be willing for vote for. I have desperately wanted a Labour government but not with Corbyn and his momentum bunch at the helm. His top tier legal background is already showing that he can challenge the Tories and hold them accountable.

JudyGemstone · 13/05/2020 13:54

As long as knows what a woman is

flamegame · 13/05/2020 13:54

Ha I wish - Boris won’t step down with that majority. KS has got a long way to go to rebuild the electoral losses.

OP posts:
JudyGemstone · 13/05/2020 13:55

*he knows

flamegame · 13/05/2020 13:55

I agree @Tailsoftheunexpected I was almost in tears reading about him actually holding the tories to account, it’s been so long.

The telegraph have been running articles praising Starmer

Momentum is not synonymous with left wing.

I just hope he continues with his current approach once MPs return. I don't want him playing to the gallery or using scripted jokes. Just keep on nailing Boris et al with the detail!

GhostofFrankGrimes · 13/05/2020 14:03

Momentum is not synonymous with left wing.

Maybe not but their votes will still be needed. Broad church and all that.

The telegraph have been running articles praising Starmer

Unsuprising.

Bubblesbubblesmybubbles · 13/05/2020 14:09

Can't stand him, really wanted to like him but I just find him slimey

AgnesNaismith · 13/05/2020 14:10

I like his face. He looks like a U.K. version of American Dad.

Bertoldbrecht · 13/05/2020 14:27

I like him too. His performance in pmqs has been pretty good and shown both boris and raab up for how inept they really are.
I hope he remains pragmatic. Re strong backing of the unions this should not be a blind knee jerk reaction a la corbyn, but as a result of detailed consideration of the reasoning behind their stance. A softly softly approach is what's required, yes he has to bring the left of his party on board but equally he must attract the more centrist tory/ wavering voters too if he's to win an election !

BearSoFair · 13/05/2020 14:31

I like him. To me he seemed like the only real decent choice out of the leadership candidates so very happy he got it, now hoping he won't turn out to be a disappointment! Early days but I think so far so good.

Humphriescushion · 13/05/2020 14:33

I am impressed so far. Is good to see.

eurochick · 13/05/2020 14:33

As a barrister I am very much admiring his weekly skilful cross examination of the blond buffoon.

Pringletastic · 13/05/2020 14:36

It's a shame he wasn't so forthright when he was Director of Public Prosecutions during the Jimmy Saville debacle.
