Teeny tiny children’s bedrooms

Dd has the box room and whilst she was a baby and toddler it was manageable. Now she’s older and needs a desk for homework but still floor space to play, it’s getting much harder to organise.

Any tips? I was thinking about a mid sleeper type bed but it would probably need to go next to the window, is that a no-no?

She’s not the tidiest of people and I don’t think the small bedroom helps!

That's strange as saw them in store last year!

It's on the UK website for £75 and says available for delivery? Not sure it's wide enough though tbh.

Ah I’ve seen the one you’re looking at. I was looking at a longer one called ‘occasional table’ for it to go across the end of her bed for tv and along the wall for a chair and school work.

Cabin beds with a pull out desk or a very small desk. One of our dc has a pull
Down desk which is wall mounted that dh made and a folding chair so it takes up no space
Also shelves and nice storage baskets for clothes means no chest of drawers as they are up out of the way

Our midsleeper dominated the space and the pull out desk didnt work for us. We now have a normal bed with big draws and then the desk is a bit like that malm one in that its slim and goes over the foot end of the bed. Its a bit of contiboard with legs screwed on. Homebase cut the board to the right length.

You could get some thick mdf. It to the size you want and paint it. We have a custom desktop from mdf.

My dd2 is also in the box room. She has a fold down desk from ikea. Cheap and cheerful but does the job!

DS has this in his box room

His room is so small that we can’t fit anything else in except a clothing rail.
Think the room is 8x6 foot iirc

Fiddlersgreen · 11/05/2020 01:34

Meant to say he’s nearly 14! We never intended to stay so long in this house (we also rent) but circumstances meant we haven’t been able to move yet

I had a tiny bedroom growing up. Eventually my dad fitted a hinged desk against the wall. Fantastic as it was stable and big enough to spread books on. I had to fold it down if I wanted to open the little wardrobe.

Actually making your own desk top means you can have it narrow over the bed and deeper beside the bed, personally I can't stand a shallow desk! Also you can have it any height you want to accommodate which ever bed you choose.

My DD has the box room, it's tiny!! We brought a high sleeper it goes over the box Dh cut one of the legs so it rests on top of the box it's much better than it going over by the window. She has room for a desk underneath and room for a bookshelf and storage along the walls plus plenty of floor space for play.

Abbccc · 11/05/2020 09:57

You can get normal single size midsleepers.

Gobbolinocat · 11/05/2020 10:49

dont have desk in room, neither of mine need or have had desk in room, use sitting on bed or table down stairs.

if you can move any furniture eg wardrobe out into hallways - that's what we might do for dd. mirrors or stick on wall ikea mirrors.... to make room seem larger
