Can I clean my patio without a pressure washer?

Our patio area is ditched. Scrubbed it with hotwater and washing up liquid but isnt lifting the ground in dirt. Ive just read you can buy patio cleaner...anyone used just this to lift years of dirt without usingba pressure washer/cleaner?

Won't the chemicals you use kill your grass?

Overseasmom100 · 09/05/2020 15:31

Grass...no grass near the patio

I bought a Product called Wet&Forget years ago.

It's not instant , you need to apply and it takes months to show it's working
It did the Square Root of Diddly Squat .

I have a small Karcher pressure washer that is a million times better .

Have you tried washing soda and biological washing powder? Leave it on for a bit as a strong solution, then scrub and rinse.

TheHighestSardine · 09/05/2020 15:33

Patio cleaner or bleach and a very stiff broom and you might get somewhere, at the expense of horrible chemicals all over everywhere. I'd spend £70 on a pressure washer myself. And did.

LouisaMusgrove · 09/05/2020 15:35

Why does a patio need to be clean? I can see you might want to sweep dead leaves off now and then. But you don't eat your dinner off it...

Mrs. Hinch, is that you?! Wink Grin

Patio Magic will get rid of green stuff overnight but not the dirt.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 09/05/2020 15:41

Bleach and stiff broom, will look masses better when it dries. Also quite satisfying!

Ginfordinner · 09/05/2020 15:43

Two reasons Louisa
Safety - algae grows on patios and when it is damp the patio is very slippery
My pale yellow patio looks vile when it is grubby

I use a pressure washer. It is a very satisfying job. Definitely get the patio cleaning attachment.

Ive got a cat so would be worried about bleach. It's like dark grime and dirt wont shift...my tiles are red so would like to refresh them up...I have the time

Nothing will clean them like a pressure washer, honestly invest £60 in one!

HermioneWeasley · 09/05/2020 15:47

Apparently hot tub cleaner gets them sparkling

LouisaMusgrove · 09/05/2020 15:48

We've got a slippery stone sloping path - a scrubbing brush with weak bleach gets the mould off there without difficulty. Is the pale yellow, wood? Like decking?

HotPenguin · 09/05/2020 15:54

A pressure washer is only a temporary solution, it takes the top surface off but is soon gets dirty again. And you waste a shitload of water. I would scrub it with a broom, but perhaps just accept that the floor outside is never going to be sparkly clean.

ElectricTonight · 09/05/2020 15:54

Astonish mould spray might do it then rinse with a bucket and water.

Overseasmom100 · 09/05/2020 15:55

Will try a the bleach then on a small area

I wouldn't bother with the scrubbing, go for the pressure washer. Just a warning it is addictive you will happily spend hrs washing everything you can.

Missmagpie1 · 09/05/2020 15:57

HG patio cleaner works really well

TimeWastingButFun · 09/05/2020 16:08

I tried that, scrubbing, bleach, everything - caved in and bought a pressure washer and it's absolutely brilliant, I wouldn't be without it now (also great for cleaning the bins and cars as well).

walksen · 09/05/2020 16:14

If you watch and read forums then normally a good scrib with any kind of detergent followed by a rinse of sodium hypochlorite watered down which is essentially bleach. You can get this from pool shops. Spray it on scrub with brush and leave for an hour or two then wash off.

Obviously will need to keep cat in for this hour.

You can get an sealents you brush on afterwards which makes it easier to clean but they usually need re applying every year (i have some black limestone so have to do it) unless i want grey limestone.

You could also hire people to wash it for you who charge per metre squared.

ParkheadParadise · 09/05/2020 16:18

I bleach my patio all the time.
Water and bleach in a bucket, pour over patio give it a good scrub with a scrubbing brush and leave for 30 minutes. Pour a couple of buckets of water over it.

dudsville · 09/05/2020 16:31

Pressure washer with nothing but water does the job for me.

Davespecifico · 09/05/2020 16:34

Every year, Aldi has about a week where they have them. Not expensive and do a very good job.

Jazzmin · 09/05/2020 16:35

Biological washing powder mixed into a paste with water, left on over night when my cat is indoors and rinsed off worked for me. However, I only did a few slabs at a time in case in turned into a giant frothy foam. Good as new now.
