People that exercise 1-2 hours or day

What do you do? Especially now we’re all at home?

I do weight training, but this shouldn’t be done daily due to recovery time (and weight training makes me really hungry which negates the benefits in terms of burning calories). I’ve also taken up couch to 5k, but again, they recommend at least a day between runs. And neither of these takes an hour anyway.

What does everyone else do daily? I really want to use the rest of lockdown to lose some weight and get fit. I’m starting 16:8 and much healthier eating for my food, but would love to increase exercise to.

Les Mills on demand. Its the Body pump/combat/balance (plus ballet and dance and HIIT). You can do anything you like but I'm following their six week programme which mixes it up. I run on the 'rest' days. Really good and the first 60 days are free - if you join via the East Ridings leisure centre (don't have to be a member)

maleficent53 · 08/05/2020 08:09

30 day shred and a walk

hopeishere · 08/05/2020 08:10

My friend has a programme set by a trainer - running, cross trainer and special stretches and stuff. She's obsessed with it though.

I agree - Les Mills on Demand.

I do something every day and often do 2 classes.

I have a spin bike so I do a lot of their rpm and sprint classes

Loads of different stuff to try - really would recommend it

chimpandzee · 08/05/2020 08:12

Running, insta live classes, members only online sessions via Zoom with my gym. I don't take any notice of the recovery time. I've always thought that only counts if you're an athlete and training at that kind of level. I mix it up a lot - a HIIT session and a bodyweight only resistance class one day, and then a weights session and a run the next.

HauntedGhostFart · 08/05/2020 08:13

I've been doing e.g. Joe Wicks or a HIIT type thing. Then I might do a 1hr cycle or a run or long brisk walk.

Bagelsandbrie · 08/05/2020 08:16

Brisk walking. Download the Active 10 app and aim for 30-40 mins brisk walking every day. Low impact exercise and just as good for you as going for a 20 min run.

BlueGheko · 08/05/2020 08:17

2 x 30min hiit workouts with/without weights plus either cycling or roller skating in the evening for an hour. Thats just during lockdown though, usually half this.

PhoneLock · 08/05/2020 08:18

With the weight training, can't you alternate which muscle groups you are working?

Ronnie27 · 08/05/2020 08:20

Running or cycling (often treadmill or Wattbike with weights now) due to lockdown and being home with the dc.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 08/05/2020 08:21

Les Mills here too. Usually two days cardio (Step, Attack or Combat) then weights (Pump or Grit Strength)

Shockers · 08/05/2020 08:24

I’m alternating daily; a brisk walk (around 5 miles) with a cycle (10-15 miles) ride. I’m also doing small weights morning and evening and lots of physio after recent surgery.

BogRollBOGOF · 08/05/2020 08:26

Running/ walking as my longer burst.
Yoga or shorter aerobic (youtube/ trampoline) or strength sessions.

JacobReesMogadishu · 08/05/2020 08:27

An hour brisk walk and 1-2 hrs cycle ride.

randomsabreuse · 08/05/2020 08:27

Yoga is fine every day. Running is best alternate days.

I try to prioritise a grown-up yoga every day for me, run every other day unless sore.

Joe Wicks PE is very much part of my behaviour management strategy, but I will modify to low impact where I've designated a rest day.

It's difficult because in normal times I walk miles carrying children just to run errands band pick up bits from the shop. Now shopping is once a week by car and there are no random errands!

Isadora2007 · 08/05/2020 08:27

Oh god. I wish I had two hours to exercise. 😔
Closest I get is making sure I take the kids out daily for their exercise for 1-2 hours and sometimes I arrange to collect and walk my (keyworker) friends dogs.

randomsabreuse · 08/05/2020 08:28

Cycling is good for rest days as no impact - trying to get out bikes back in action!

Peonyonpoint · 08/05/2020 08:29

@iMatter - would you mind telling me a bit more about your spin bike?

M0nstermunch · 08/05/2020 08:35

Brisk 5 mile walk daily, takes 1 hour 15. Need to do some strength training as well really though

BBBear · 08/05/2020 08:37

Thanks everyone. I used to do Bodypump at the gym and have looked at the online lessons - I think I’ll sign up to them for the variety.

We do go for a walk every day as a family for around 40 mins, but I am putting on weight so I really need to up my game with additional exercise.

Running, walking with the dog, outdoor cycling, indoor cycling/spinning and HIIT with kettlebells/plyo box/skipping rope in the garden.

Canyoutellilikrchocolate · 08/05/2020 08:38

Cycling. Don’t do it every day though as I’m juggling work from home with a toddler

underneaththeash · 08/05/2020 08:42

I do a class in the morning before the kids get up - I'm signed up with a couple of local trainers (who also need the income!) I then do something outdoors later in the day with or without kids.

Littlemeadow123 · 08/05/2020 08:45

A 1 hour walk a day with the doggo.

Teateaandmoretea · 08/05/2020 08:45

Walking (but for a lot longer than 40 minutes), cycling, turbo trainer.
