What are your kids favourite meals?

MistyMinge2 · 05/05/2020 17:50

There's a handful of meals that my children (5 & 7) are guaranteed to wolf down. Some that they begrudgingly eat and quite a lot they really turn their nose up at. I feel like we're eating the same old meals as I can't be doing with the fuss if it's something they don't really like.

Please share the meals your children love. I need some inspiration.

My DS is 3 and so I find easy to feed yourself stuff is his favourite

Macaroni cheese with peas & cauliflower mixed in

Fish fingers with baked beans Hmmcan usually get away with new potatoes with this combo

Pasta with sliced smoked or spicy sausage / peppers & broccoli 🥦

He loves pizza and but we often make our own pastry based pizza ( low fat puff sheet with cheese, a jar of tomato base, peppers, onions, tomatoes, chopped ham, mushrooms- DS loves adding the toppings)

I should be cooking now, but I'm writing this. We are having chicken and bacon with noodles, splash of soy source, peas, peppers, onion, thin slice carrots in the stir fry too.

I’ve got a nearly 5 and 6 year old. The meals they’re guaranteed to eat are:

Any variation of roast
Prawn korma
Mild chicken curry
Chicken wrapped in Parma ham
Homemade chicken nuggets
Homemade schnitzel
Teriyaki salmon (or plain)
Pesto pasta with pancetta

They are also partial to a fry up for dinner as well.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 05/05/2020 18:16

Both:
Roast with all the trimmings
Bacon eggs beans and toast
Omlette
Quesadillas
Rice/pasta with meat and vegetables
Toad in the Hole

Ds:
Anything else

Dd:
Anything without a sauce

We get round it by eating breakfast and lunches together, then dh and I have anything not on the "both" list for dinner.

Connie222 · 05/05/2020 18:19

Spaghetti Bolognese
Roast chicken and veg
Jacket pots, cheese and beans
Fish of any sort

Zisforstripyoss · 05/05/2020 18:21

Jacket potato with cheese & beans.
Kedgeree
Sausage, mash & peas
A random chicken & rice concoction that I make out of leftover chicken - chuck a load of onion in a pan, cook it with some garlic, chuck some leftover chicken in, put frozen mixed veg in the microwave for 2 mins and put that in the pan too. The secret ingredient is a chicken cuppa soup made with a teeny bit of water so it's very thick - pour over like a sauce. Add cooked rice or (gasp) a packet of golden veg or chicken & sweetcorn rice and give it a good mix. Add tarragon. Put on plates. Kids love it.

VisionQuest · 05/05/2020 18:25

YgritteSnow · 05/05/2020 18:35

Chicken wings - I season them with oil and onion and garlic salt and roast in the oven. With garlic bread and salad.

Roast chicken and noodles.

Salmon pasta. I used to tell them it was chicken or they wouldn't eat it. They probably realise by now, being teenagers Smile

Garlic prawns and stir fry noodles.

Pizza - ds would eat it for every meal if he could.

Polkadotpjs · 05/05/2020 18:35

Not enough. They'll eat anything beige happily
They do eat a lot:
Bolognese and chilli. But complain bitterly
Salmon noodles and soy sauce and broccoli
Salmon in green (broccoli spinach and cheese) sauce
Mum's pie. Mine was a poor imitation

Anything else is greeted with suspicion

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 05/05/2020 18:38

Roast chicken pieces in rice with (lots of) peas and gravy, we had this last night. Looks like a messy risotto but quick and easy to make.
My husband has chicken quixo gravy granules on the top of his, along with child 2.

Dk20 · 05/05/2020 18:38

My ds will eat anything except for peas and sauces.
He'll wolf down any kind of meat or veg as long as theres no strong tasting sauce on them. A year ago the only meat hed eat was chicken so weve made huge progress

RoseMartha · 05/05/2020 18:39

Chicken casserole
Any roast dinner
Meatball in homemade tomato sauce and pasta
Pesto pasta with broccoli and sometimes lardons
Sausages, chips and beans
Pizza

Justabadwife · 05/05/2020 18:39

Dd loves
Chicken wraps
Pasta carbonarra
Ham and cheese pasta (like ravioli with no sauce)
Homemade toad in the hole
Chicken burgers
Thick Beef burgers with mozzarella

ReadilyAvailable · 05/05/2020 18:43

DS(10) really loves:
Teryaki chicken and rice (and veg)
Chilli and rice
Beef bulgogi and rice (and veg)
Baked gnocchi (in tomato and bacon sauce)
Pasta with just about any kind of tomato-based sauce
White fish and chorizo in a tomato sauce with potatoes and veg
Honey garlic chicken and rice (and veg)
Picadillo and rice
Chicken tikka masala
Toad in the hole (with mash and veg)
Any roast dinner (so long as there’s no gravy).
Tacos filled with some sort of spicy meat and veg.
Japanese style fried chicken (Tori karaage)
Pretty much anything served on a stick goes down well (chicken kebabs in particular)
Shakshuka, or variations on eggs baked in tomato-based sauce with veg in it (he’s discovered he likes spinach this way)
Hunters’ chicken (ideally with mash and veg)
Ribs in barbecue sauce with some sort of potato.
Burgers
Pizza
Cooked breakfasts
American style breakfasts (pancakes or waffles with bacon and eggs).

PhantomErik · 05/05/2020 18:48

Toad in the hole with roast potatoes, carrots & green beans.

Pasta with cheese & a bowl of peas & sweetcorn on the side.

Pizza with cucumber, tomato & pepper sticks

Jacket potato with cheese & beans (DD prefers egg mayo on hers) with salad

Sausage & mash with carrots, peas & corn on the cob

Egg, chips & peas (1 doesn't like egg so he has a burger - no bun)

Macaroni cheese with cucumber, tomato & garlic bread.

Stew & dumplings - they all grumble a bit but eat it all!

Curry with rice & naan bread - again they grumble but eat it.

mbosnz · 05/05/2020 18:50

At that age:

Macaroni Cheese
Spag bol (which had courgette, mushroom, carrot, and spinach in it)
Fish pie
Roast chicken with stuffing and veges
Roast lamb with chicken and veges
Bangers and mash (and veges)
Stuffed sausages - and of course veges - these were sausages split in half, with cheese and tomato sauce and then backed
Oven baked salmon with roasties - and of course veges
Marinaded lamb chops with veges
Golden sausages and veges
Greek marinaded lamb kebabs with rice and salad

With veges, the rule was - all greens must go. They are allowed to have two items that are absolute no go zones, but greens gotta go. . .

Bluewavescrashing · 05/05/2020 18:52

Roast chicken with Yorkshire puds
Stir fry and noodles
Macaroni cheese

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 05/05/2020 18:52

Pasta - bolognaise, pesto, tomato sauce or macaroni cheese
Sausage/breaded fish/ chicken Kiev with chips and peas
Roast dinner although they may not eat the meat
Most curries
Most soups as long as not blended
Any pizza including homemade
Burgers, can be beef, chicken or veggie in buns

That's pretty much it, there are other things a they will eat but these are the only dishes where there will be absolutely no fuss.

TeddyIsaHe · 05/05/2020 18:57

Dd is 3.5 and will always eat

Cheesy pasta (can’t call it macaroni cheese as that is obviously completely different Hmm )
Quesadillas - I can put literally anything in them and she’ll eat them. That was a good day when I discovered that!
Roast chicken with broccoli and tomatoes.
Pizza (I do cut up spinach into tiny pieces and put more cheese on top to hide it)
Smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels
Gnocchi but just with cheese and butter
Toast
Sausage, mash and peas.

That’s about it really. She’s getting better, but still a fusspot!

Inapickleortwo · 05/05/2020 18:57

DSD6 favourite lunches are
Fish finger wraps
Pizza
Pesto pasta

Her dinners are
Meatballs with homemade garlic bread
Spag Bol
Lasagna
Chicken korma curry
Sausage and mash
Breaded chicken burger (has to be brioche bun or she'll just leave the roll)
Roast dinner

We went through a phase where she just took foreveeeeer to eat or started saying her stomach hurt/wasn't hungry/didn't like it despite having it loads before. I started getting her involved in the cooking be it helping layer the lasagna or put the garlic butter on rolls and she started eating with no problems again as she 'made it' so was proud. She was still not really eating school lunches as she 'didn't like them' but with Covid I'm happy she's eating 3 balanced meals a day.

RightOnTheEdge · 05/05/2020 18:58

Obsessed with pizza Hmm

Then chicken/beef burgers
Chips
Chicken korma
Cottage pie

So nothing too exciting. They do eat lots of other things but they are their favourites.
