Settle a debate between DP and I.

At what age are they not classed as toddlers any more? So how old do they have to be?

Hmm not sure maybe 3?

Canyoutellilikrchocolate · 05/05/2020 11:46

3

CaptainSpirit · 05/05/2020 11:46

I personally think from the age of 1-3 are toddler years. My eldest is 3 next month and I still think of her as a toddler.

3 I think, then they become pre-schoolers.

MerryDeath · 05/05/2020 12:16

my just 3 yo is no toddler. maybe mentally which is what throws me off! i think i expect too much from him sometimes .

itsallopticsanyway · 05/05/2020 12:16

I always think:

0-1 Baby
1-3 Toddler
3-4/5 Preschooler
4/5+ Child

itsallopticsanyway · 05/05/2020 12:17

Although I quite often forget and refer to my nearly two year old as a baby 🤦‍♀️

SpratsOnParade · 05/05/2020 12:18

Once they are three they are no longer toddlers.

BrokenBrit · 05/05/2020 12:18

Oo hedging my bets maybe 3.5?!
As 2 is clearly a toddler and 4 is certainly not, so surely the cut off is halfway through being 3 Grin.

CountFosco · 05/05/2020 12:22

When they are out of nappies and don't toddler.

Newcatmum · 05/05/2020 12:22

Mine is 3 next week and I still call her a toddler but then I called her a baby way past 1 and probably didn't call her a toddler until she was 2 so I'm not the best to judge this Grin. I agree with itsallopticsanyway post but I will continue to call mine a toddlerBlush. Plus she's quite behind for her age so it's hard to think of her as a preschooler.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 05/05/2020 12:24

When they wet their underwear less than twice a week, and can eat more ice cream than they drop on the floor. I may be regressing.

Nquartz · 05/05/2020 12:24

I think it's when they are out of nappies

inwood · 05/05/2020 12:25

3

Mylittlepony374 · 05/05/2020 12:27

Toddler is 1 to 3.

NameChange30 · 05/05/2020 12:29

My DS turned 3 quite recently. In the months before he turned 3, his speech developed amazingly, he learned to use a potty, and he just seems like a kid and not a toddler any more.
At nursery they move the children from the toddler room to the preschool room when they turn 3. I do think it makes sense as a cut-off.
"Toddler" rolls off the tongue more easily than "preschooler" though so I struggle a bit now! I tend to call him my three year old (maybe I should say threenager which feels accurate).

SugarOrSweetenerWithTheTea · 05/05/2020 12:46

They are toddlers are from 12 months until they turn 3.

SugarOrSweetenerWithTheTea · 05/05/2020 12:49

I never bothered with preschooler, bit American. From 3 they’re just children rather than toddlers or babies.

AugieMarch · 05/05/2020 12:49

From 1st birthday to 3rd birthday is toddler to me, then they're a preschooler from 3 to whenever they start school.

BasilDiffuser · 05/05/2020 12:49

I still call my three year old a baby. But I agree with @NameChange30 she seemed to mature a lot in the last few weeks of being 2 and seems a lot older now! Pre-schooler sounds American to me for some reason.

SugarOrSweetenerWithTheTea · 05/05/2020 13:02

@itsallopticsanyway I refer to my 3&5 year olds as babies, of course they’re not actually babies, but they’ll always be my babies, even when they’re adults!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 05/05/2020 13:05

I would never really use the term “pre schooler”- so I guess I would say toddler until 4/5.

DinosApple · 05/05/2020 13:12

3 Preschooler.
Toddler 1 & 2 years
Baby up to 1.

My grandma still calls my dad Baby and he's nearly 70 and I still call my youngest The Baby and she's 9 😂. Clearly neither of them are, it's habit.

GatoFofo · 05/05/2020 13:15

1st birthday (or when walking) to 3rd birthday imo.

DelurkingAJ · 05/05/2020 13:20

Preschooler is useful when DC is taller than many of the DC in Reception and out of nappies etc but the behaviour reflects the age (3.5 last September).
