Just as the title suggests! Name a song, or songs that move you! To tears, laughter, happiness, whatever! Bonus points for why.

Mine - Bob Dylan-The times they are a-changin, I remember it playing it as my little sister got into her wedding dress and it felt very apt! And Joe Cocker-With a little help from my friends, reminds me of when I left my ex and my best friend turned up with a bottle of vodka and blasted it out and sang the entire thing to me whilst I sobbed Grin

Regina Spektor - The Call

Willowmartha1 · 03/05/2020 21:59

Your song
Have I told you lately that I love you

ParkheadParadise · 03/05/2020 22:06

I could never say goodbye - enya
Played at dd's funeral.
I watch the sunrise, my mum would always sing this hymn. It was played at her and dd's funerals.
Both songs make me cry when I hear them.
You'll never walk alone.
I have a fantastic video on my phone of dd's singing this when Celtic won the scottish cup its makes me smile.

Everybody Hurts by REM. When my DH was dying of cancer and our DC were still at primary school I used to go down to the basement in the middle of the night, play it full blast and howl out my grief. That song kept me sane.

FrankiesKnuckle · 03/05/2020 22:09

Big picture London Grammar - I'd had my last counselling session after many unhappy years bearing the weight of some childhood trauma. I heard it on the radio and cried and cried, immediately downloaded when I got home.
Because now I can see the big picture.

msmith501 · 03/05/2020 22:15

I agree with Everybody Hurts - it's raw and painful and good for that very reason; it's one of the few songs to which you can be primal in your emotions.. Ditto Seasons in the Sun by Terry Jacks. As a child it was a fun song with a nice tune. As an adult, it's as moving as hell... goodbye little one it's hard to die... goodbye my friend... and so on. It wrenches my heart. There's one by Bonnie Prince Billie where the husband returns after being away and his wife has found another, not knowing if or when he'd be back. A good song. Also No Regrets by the Walker Brothers. Most of the Fleetwood Mac songs on the Rumours album. Oh, and Fernando by ABBA.

Whiter shade of pale, Procol Harum.
It gives me shivers

Thekindyoufindinasecondhand · 03/05/2020 22:18

Sunscreen by Baz Luhrmann - we had it played at my son's funeral.
Beam me up - Pink - I would give everything to have one more minute with my boy.
Adam's Song - Blink 182 - 'Please tell mom this is not her fault' that line haunts me.
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone - my son's favourite song of all time.

RedRec · 03/05/2020 22:23

Happiness by Ken Dodd. Reminds me of my dad.

chunkyrun · 03/05/2020 22:24

Wendy Renee - after laugher

Thekindyoufindinasecondhand · 03/05/2020 22:27

@chunkyrun yes! Praying is another one for me. Love to play that loud and belt it out, think most people have someone they can picture that relates to

Paulo Nuttini - New shoes. Always makes me smile.

JamesNesbittsBrows · 03/05/2020 22:27

Sorry for your losses Parkhead and Prawn

Floralnomad · 03/05/2020 22:34

Everybody Hurts (REM) is known as the dead animal song in our house , it was playing in the car when I drove home from having our first horse pts and it’s become the go to song for when a pet dies .
Forever Autumn by Justin Hayward reminds me of my dad as it was one of his favourites , he died quite young in 1990 and I don’t think I’ve listened to the entire song since .

Pinkarsedfly · 03/05/2020 22:36

The Drugs Don’t Work by The Verve. Find it very hard to listen to since my dad passed away.

In The Ghetto by Elvis. Proper ugly crying every time.

TheVanguardSix · 03/05/2020 22:37

Enchanting Ghost- Sufjan Stevens
He's just got an insane catalogue of amazing music, but Enchanting Ghost really moves me. It was the song that filled my head after being resuscitated. And even though the lyrics pertain to love's departure, they mean something different to me now. It was a beautiful song to 'come back' to.

fronttoback · 03/05/2020 22:38

'Get here' - Oleta Adams. I was in the grip of limerence at the time...

'Every little thing she does is magic' - The Police. Joyous (and bittersweet now too, after what happened to Air Studios on Montserrat, where it was recorded).

runwithme · 03/05/2020 22:38

By Your Side, Sade
February Stars, Foo Fighters
Carry You Home, James Blunt

Gregoria67 · 03/05/2020 22:43

Always on my Mind sung by Willie Nelson. Just seems terribly sad.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 03/05/2020 22:48

The ones that make me have something in my eye
Don’t give up - Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel
Man of the World - Peter Green
Make you feel my love - Bob Dylan
Vincent - Don McLean

ParkheadParadise · 03/05/2020 22:54

I've remembered more songs.
The fields of Athenry

Grace

Reminds me of my dad. These 2 songs were always played in our house when we were kids. I still know the words all these years later.

Cherryblossomsnow · 03/05/2020 22:55

@gastinsmo yes I agree there is something about that song. It's from my dads era and I remember this from my childhood. I agree it's a deep song isn't it.

duckme · 03/05/2020 23:04

Tears in Heaven-Eric Clapton.
I agree with a pp, Sunscreen makes me teary.
Also, quite a few Disney songs! Baby Mine and 'When She Loved Me' to name a couple.
