I have one. Got it in July. I absolutely love it. I’m now over 80 rides in and close to joining the century club. I wouldn’t say I was particularly fit at the start, I just followed the beginners program and went from there. I’ve posted elsewhere about it but here’s a few points I would make to anyone considering it, or thinking about different set ups:
It’s a lot of money, but it feels like a really high quality totally oven-ready set up -just slick and smooth. The thing is about 9 stone in weight so it’s solid and you feel safe on it -in case you’ve ever felt a bit concerned in a rickety gym peloton.
The sense of community is amazing -join the fb groups (UK Ladies Peloton and the weight loss spin off are really friendly) and meet up with group members on rides.
There are thousands of rides on the app so you can choose serious training to improve performance (power zone training), rides that are more dance/choreography, rides that are music genre based, or just stick to you favourite instructor. 80 rides in and I’m still at the excited by new things stage. Still haven’t tried a scenic ride, where you can just choose to ride through places like Paris or Vegas...
There is far more than spinning to the app -yoga, strength, bootcamp etc.
It is the best thing I have spent money on in a long time and I’m so glad I have it incase of another lockdown.
I wouldn’t recommend buying second hand -they keep their value but you don’t get the warranty. For some thing that expensive I’d pay the few hundred pounds more for new and have the warranty.
There are discounts out there. The obvious one is £100 accessories with a referral code, mine is MGJJ63. Obviously no use to you if you wouldn’t buy accessories. There is also a Blue Light Card discount for nhs staff. You get your whole accessories package (shoes, weights, mat) free, although that might change. Annoyingly Blue Light Card will give you a code which doesn’t work, but don’t check out! Enter the chat and they’ll sort it out.
Oh, and there are two bikes now. Bike+ is more expensive and the key differences are being able to turn the screen for off bike activities, better sound system, and auto resistance change. For various reasons I don’t need those things -I do my off bike stuff in another room via the app (same subscription) on my smart tv, I wear blue tooth in ear headphones not the speakers, and I like to fine tune my resistance a lot. But I can see for people who imagine they’ll do a lot of bootcamp stuff (on and off the bike with strength intervals etc) it might be better.
