Who's tooth is this??

DS and DD decided to find 'treasure' in our garden today. It's a fairly old house, with a very established garden and we've been here less than two years. DS presented me with this. It's a bloody massive tooth. I can't even begin to imagine what it belonged to. Please talk me down from a CSI type scenario 😬

Hahahahaha love your measurements!! Grin

GiantKitten · 03/05/2020 12:05

How about a cow?

Who's tooth is this??
GiantKitten · 03/05/2020 12:09

They only have bottom incisors apparently.
These look quite human.

Poppi89 · 03/05/2020 12:14

I agree with GiantKitten it does look like a cows! and that would account for the size of it too

Poppi89 · 03/05/2020 12:16

It was not that long ago that many farmers used to bury their cattle remains on their land (some probably still do) so this would be very likely.

Wavingwhiledrowning · 03/05/2020 12:16

Ooooh... A cow! That looks plausible.

So many more questions now though... Why would someone have a cow's tooth? Confused

We live in the middle of a market town. Granted, the garden is a reasonable size, but I'm not sure it's herd of cattle worthy. It also puzzles me that it's in the veg patch. If you were going to bury a cow, surely you wouldn't then plant potatoes on top of it?

It might not have been in the middle of town at the time - teeth last forever after death, don’t they?

GiantKitten · 03/05/2020 12:25

(Because no more tooth decay)

Runkle · 03/05/2020 12:29

Human. When I had teeth removed the used to give you them in a pot (do they still do that?!) and that's how they looked.

Poppi89 · 03/05/2020 12:38

Yes I am wondering if it was from a long time ago and has come to the surface because a veg plot was put there so the ground was dug up/disturbed more than other areas.

Poppi89 · 03/05/2020 12:39

Do you know if your home used to be on farmland?

Poppi89 · 03/05/2020 12:40

I suppose it could be centuries old so you probably wouldn't know. Or even things like a bird or fox picked it up and carried it and dropped it a few years back and it got covered over with soil.

itsasmallworldafterall · 03/05/2020 12:49

I'm going for upper left central. I think @DottyWott is right, maybe an about 8 year old had an accident and knocked it out. Did a family live there before you?

succulento · 03/05/2020 12:56

Looks cow-y to me!

ofwarren · 03/05/2020 13:01

Dig some more to see if you find anything else....

Alonelonelyloner · 03/05/2020 13:25

I'm posting as I need to desperately watch an historical murder investigation unfold.

I reckon someone murdered the local Lord one rainy night, chopped off his head as a trophy, but one of his enormous teeth fell out. I reckon you'll find a headless body underneath your Brussels.

Weedsnseeds1 · 03/05/2020 13:28

Sheep incisor.
Even if you weren't farmland, people used to buy sheep heads for boiling and eating - cheap meal

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 03/05/2020 14:04

Looking at is next to the ruler its way too big for human

Im gonna go with cow

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 03/05/2020 14:05

Tbf Id have thought it more likely to be human than cow but its definitely too big

Chrisinthemorning · 03/05/2020 14:08

35mm too long for a human upper central definitely.

Poppi89 · 03/05/2020 15:12

YESSS!!! Alonelonelyloner

I am way too invested in this thread and I think I subconsciously want it to turn into some kind of CSI crime investigation.

OP do you have a husband buried underneath the patio by any chance?

Wavingwhiledrowning · 03/05/2020 15:24

Poppi89 - not yet, but that is all dependent on how long lockdown lasts Grin.

I'll admit that I also yearn for this to turn into something exciting. I realise it's all on me to make that happen, but today it's drizzly and cold and I can't be bothered to go outside! (although it would probably be more enjoyable to the endless games of kerplunk I am currently subjected to).

As a teaser... There are absolutely more bones in the veg patch - clearly visible. Lots of different sizes though - a smallish rib, some part of a limb, and possibly most worryingly, what looks like part of a fairly sizeable bone. Possibly this unfortunate cow, or the headless Lord of the Manor.

I must say I feel rather thrilled to have started a non-dull MN thread. Mostly I just ask about mops and cleaning products. I feel like I've made it! A bit gutted at my poor grammar in the title though. Gah. Blush

I'd be looking in your DS room. Just because he gave it to you after digging in the garden doesn't mean he found it in the garden..........don't you watch any horror films.?

Look under his bed , cupboards, loose carpet , knock on the walls for hollow sounds ...you know the drill Grin

Wavingwhiledrowning · 03/05/2020 16:39

70isaLimitNotaTarget - you jest, but we do have a weird phenomenon here whereby birds randomly fall out of the sky (dead) into our garden. Was a seagull (!!!) on the day we moved in, and we get pigeons fairly regularly. The latest was yesterday as it happens. When The Tooth appeared. Gulp.
