Elizabeth is Missing
A Man called Ove
Me Before You

I can't remember a single thing about Eleanor Oliphant. I read it and I think I liked it but nothing at all about it has stayed in my head, except that she was a little bit odd. Why did you love it so much @Imknackeredzzz

InAGarden · 29/04/2020 22:07

I loved Eleanor oliphant- And also these books
A Man Called Ove Fredrick Backman.
Normal people sally Rooney
The Hearts invisible Furies John Boyne
Elizabeth is Missing Emma Healey
Days without end Sebastian Barry

LadyGrey66 · 29/04/2020 22:10

@InAGarden I am stealing your list!

tommyspud · 29/04/2020 22:12

I really enjoyed that book too. Has anyone tried the new Marion Keyes book?
Try anything by Jane Green.

sociallydistained · 29/04/2020 22:14

I also loved it and another book I loved (read in one sitting) that reminded me of the main character was The curious incident of the dog in the night time.

pennysays · 29/04/2020 22:18

Yes it was brilliant. I loved Hot Milk by Deborah Levy. A bit more slow burn but still fabulously claustrophobic as EO was.

BlueGreenYellowRed · 29/04/2020 22:23

The Rosie Project has similar themes and tone

InAGarden · 29/04/2020 22:25

@Fluora I loved ladder of years too! I like many of Anne Tyler’s.

A few new ones here I’ve not heard of, will take a look at.

Have leant my teenage son One Day by David Nichols, id forgotten how much I enjoyed it until he started talking about it. He does not normally read fiction but is loving it.

BlueGreenYellowRed · 29/04/2020 22:25

Have you read Rachel's Holiday? I know it's quite old now, but it's a great read!

UnitedRoad · 29/04/2020 22:27

I loved Eleanor Oliphant, and I’ve just read and completely loved The Extraordinary Hope of Dawn Brightside by Jessica Ryn. It’s not out yet, I received a review copy, but it’s excellent. It’s one to look out for, I’m reading it for a second time!

I also really enjoyed Fiona and the whale by Hannah Lynn. It’s currently free on kindle unlimited if you have that.

AgnesNaismith · 29/04/2020 22:27

Oh yes the Rosie Project was brilliant too, agreed @BlueGreenYellowRed

UnitedRoad · 29/04/2020 22:28

Agree with @BlueGreenYellowRed about Rachels Holiday too. Marian Keyes wrote lots of books Labour the same family, but you don’t need to read them all or in any order. Rachel’s holidays my favourite.

Another vote for The Cactus

Poetryinaction · 29/04/2020 22:34

I loved it too
Very similar books in style:
David Nicholls - Us
The Rosie Project and The Rosie Effect
The unlikely pilgrimage of Harold Fry

Elliemayclampett · 29/04/2020 22:38

I just read So lucky by Dawn O'Porter. Really enjoyed the characters

Everything I never told you, by celeste ng is a beautiful, but sad book.
I read eleanor oliphant, but I can't remember what happened.

IncrediblySadToo · 29/04/2020 23:11

It took me quite a while to get into Eleanor Olliphant, but loved it once I did. I hope she writes a follow on.

SlatternIsTrying · 30/04/2020 00:45

Rachel’s Holiday is sublime

MuseumOfYou · 30/04/2020 01:04

Some of my recent favourites:

The Universe v Alex Woods - Gavin Extence
The Empathy Problem - Gavin Extence
When God was a Rabbit- Sarah Winman
Three Things about Elsie - Joanna Cannon

I also love Rachel Joyce's books; the Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, the Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessey and The Music Shop are my favourites. They're not laughs all through, but are ultimately very uplifting.
