If you had to choose: trampoline, swings or climbing frame/slide?

We’ve got two DS 6 and nearly 3. We have a small garden and can only fit one large item of play equipment.

So would you choose:

-set of two swings
-large trampoline
-wooden climbing frame with slide.

..or something else I’ve not considered?

Swings or slide.

I'm scared of trampoline accidents

But I'd actually just ask the kids which they'd prefer

Have only had a trampoline, from your list, but it has been one of our best-ever buys (along with the games console). It has been used for over 12 years now and has come into its own again during the recent spell of good weather. Highly recommend one.

I know none should be used unsupervised but we had a trampoline without any issues. Dc a bit older. A swing set that we had - ds got entangled around his neck - hidden by washing - vowed never having a swing again. Though you can get foam covers to prevent the cords twisting round.
Be mindful of ndn when considering a trampoline.. Dc peeping over fences is an issue in mn atm. Don't be one of THEM op..

Trampoline

Letthemysterybe · 29/04/2020 16:39

I’d get a trampoline but not a giant one. The big ones only encourage loads of children to pile on at once, and that is when accidents happen.

ShouldWeChangeTheBulb · 29/04/2020 16:39

Trampoline. Yes there are people who have accidents but if you have a net and make sure it’s zipped you can minimise the danger. Plus they get used all the time for really good exercise. Best kids thing I have ever bought hands down.

We have a plug in inflatable bouncy castle from Travis! Cost about £290 I think. Huge pro is that you unplug it and fold it away after use (in like a sleeping bag bag) so it’s not always in your garden like a trampoline is. Our 3 kids (9,7 and 3) absolutely love it - they bounce on it, play on it, build forts on it and lie around chatting on it! Highly recommended.

Trampoline

We had all of these when my DC were little, and the trampoline was by far the best buy of the lot.

Trampoline with a net and supervision for your youngest for a while. Trampolines are lovely and tranquil places if you need to hide out and relax - I just lie on ours sometimes Smile

APipkinOfPepper · 29/04/2020 16:49

They grow out of slides quite quickly. We have a slide and swings, and the swings still get used all the time by my 7 and 11 year olds, but slide hardly gets used anymore.

Khione · 29/04/2020 16:50

What we played on most as kids was a seesaw come roundabout. Something like this seesaw

But if I was a child now I would love a trampoline and even at my age love to have a go.

We also used a swing a lot but it has to be very firmly fixed to be fun. Ours was concreted in. Otherwise it can only be swung on gently or it tips over.

BaronessBomburst · 29/04/2020 16:52

I want a swing and I'm 48. Grin

MashedPotatoBrainz · 29/04/2020 16:52

We have all three and the only one DS(7) really plays with is the trampoline. He's on it most of the time he's in the garden.

Caramel78 · 29/04/2020 16:52

Swings

Trampoline! Best toy we ever bought (in fact we bought two as the wore the first one out) Spend as much as you can afford and get as big as you can - my girls are 9 and 12 and still use it daily

CountFosco · 29/04/2020 16:56

We have a trampoline. Our kids are older (7, 10 and 12), I think a climbing frame has to be quite big to still be interesting as children get older. It has been fantastic since the schools closed, they are on it multiple times a day.

We have also got things like a paddling pool, waterslide, badminton set, basketball net, swingball, scooters, skateboards, quoits, and the current favourite roller skates which all can be chucked in the shed. The other thing I'd like to have is a football goal. The two most popular large toys on our street are trampolines and football goals.

happinessischocolate · 29/04/2020 16:57

We had a 2 story playhouse, a climbing frame and a trampoline. The trampoline got used the most, but only marginally compared to the playhouse, if it was a choice between one or the other I'd probably opt for the playhouse, the kids loved the trampoline but I constantly had to supervise them as they would keep grabbing the safety netting which eventually broke.

Bubbinsmakesthree · 29/04/2020 17:03

A bit of me wonders if I want to introduce anything into the garden right now where they’re going to need close supervision - at the moment they can have a little potter/play in there semi independently.

Also anything will inevitably be near to our neighbours gardens as were are in a narrow terrace. All the gardens are semi-overlooked anyway so the boys say hi to our neighbours and their kids and vice-versa.
