Bored out of my mind! Help me find a hobby

I like productive hobbies, hobbies that yield something useful. Something I can do in the house please.

I'm so boring. I workout daily (a quick 10 minute workout). I have a list of recipes which I'm working through, I love food and finding good fakeaway recipes (hard as a vegetarian though).

Knitting and crochet spring to mind but I just don't like the look of the things produced and yarn is so expensive.

Please help, I'm desperate

I bought myself a painting by numbers canvas set. I used to like doing them years ago. This one is actually like a piece of art and I thought I might hang it afterwards (if it's any good).

I also read non stop which helps to escape when we are stuck at home

Drawing is fairly inexpensive to get into and can be very relaxing.

Or you can get beginners embroidery sets that have everything you need in them off of etsy. Some of them are really cute.

I make my own cross stitch cards, what with Christmas cards as well it keeps me well occupied.

If you like Indian food that's good for vegetarians.

I'd love to be able to make onion bhajis, spiced potato cakes, chick peas in sauce and things with paneer that are exactly like my favourite Indian takeaways and restaurants, especially now, but it never turns out quite right.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/04/2020 12:32

Learn a language for a country you like to go on holiday?

Spend more than 10 minutes working out?

Gardening/veg growing?

Making online photo albums from all the photos you've taken over the years?

kshaw · 29/04/2020 12:35

Cross stitch has kept me busy. There's cross stitch starter kits on Amazon then buy a pattern. Etsy is good for them as more unique

CupOfTeaNonBio · 29/04/2020 12:43

Sewing - cross stitch or maybe use a machine and make clothes, curtains etc
Joinery or wood carving

Mummoomoocow · 29/04/2020 12:44

Why not do those intricate colouring books?

Pelleas · 29/04/2020 12:46

What about sketching? All you need is pencil and paper. You could sketch the views from your window, family portraits, still lifes - or sketch from imagination, or photographs. If you find you enjoy it, it could lead on to painting - if not, nothing lost.

5D diamond painting is the hobby of the moment, lots to choose from on Amazon

dawnpanda · 29/04/2020 12:56

What can I do with cross stitch apart from making cards?

Outdoor pizza oven? I’ve just got one and it’s keeping me busy...making dough, sauce etc...

Mummoomoocow · 29/04/2020 13:08

You could cross stitch some wall art

Time40 · 29/04/2020 13:34

Why not try looking on Etsy at all the lovely handmade things for sale there, and when you go "Ooooooh!", have a think about learning to make something similar? People make such amazing stuff - mermaid crowns with shells and beads; little leather clutch bags; textile art animals; mosaics from broken china ... the possibilities are endless.

The textile artist Mr Finch inspires me. I think his work is sensational

With knitting/crochet, you can make things for charity- Octopus for a Preemie, some NHS hospitals are asking for knitted hearts, twiddle muffs for dementia patients etc. I crochet toys for my son as there's only so many scarves I can wear!

Cocolapew · 29/04/2020 13:55

I'm going to learn the tin whistle, I haven't told the family yet Grin
I do some sewing, just make silly felt things for DD, and have a jigsaw on the go.

razey · 29/04/2020 14:43

I am doing an air B and B experience of making salsas just to keep me occupied !

rosiethehen · 29/04/2020 15:02

I'm currently painting pebbles. I'm aware it's not very exciting, but it cheers me up and there's loads of ideas online. You can leave them for others to find, or just put them in the garden or yard.

I have taken up with my watercolour painting again, all hit and miss of course, but then realise, that it is all my own work, and all my own messy masterpieces, I live in a tiny one bedroom cottage, but I have a very decent and quite spacious attic room with a good skylight window, so go up there to paint. I also have an electric keyboard in the attic, my son gave it to me.. its one of those with all different beats on it. so sometimes try and do some music on it. I thought I would be quite good on it, as used to play the piano many years ago, but not good at all, but it's fun.

Pelleas · 29/04/2020 16:40

Those pebbles are lovely, @rosiethehen.

dawnpanda · 29/04/2020 18:32

Love the idea of making things for charity!!

Jigsaws? Find some you like the look of...I've really enjoyed simple 500 piecers recently. Find your corners and edges first, then crack on. Jigsaws are time-swallowers!

Potionqueen · 29/04/2020 18:49

@rosiethehen those pebbles look lovely. I bet it’s very satisfying painting them.

BeardedMum · 29/04/2020 18:54

@rosiethehen, I love those pebbles. I’d actually pay money for those to brighten up my garden. Do you sell them? Smile

Lucetting might interest you. It is a soothing hobby and you can progress to quite complex designs. You can see videos on YouTube for basic instructions. The cords were used in the old days for garment closures , tying sleeves on etc. www.bing.com
