What to eat with cheesy mash?

Not had cheesy mash since childhood and have a sudden craving, mum just used to serve it on its own but obviously I feel I need to upgrade it slightly.

Beans!

KittenVsBox · 29/04/2020 10:31

Just cooked in the oven til it has a lively crispy topping. Pure comfort food on its own.

Baked white fish and petit pois

Baked beans and bacon.

Beans.
Peas and salad cream.
Might try ratatouile I think that could work.

Feawen · 29/04/2020 10:47

CadburysTastesVileNoe best me to it - more cheese, and more mash! Though pork and apple sausages also work well.

seekingwaxwings · 29/04/2020 11:22

Mmm fish, especially boil in the bag cod in butter sauce.

Failing that baked beans.

Lonelykettleshed · 29/04/2020 11:24

Crispy bacon. You may have solved my dinner dilemma.

YodaEveryday · 29/04/2020 11:39

Mushrooms fried with butter and garlic

Candyflosscookie · 29/04/2020 11:41

Pork and apple sausages from our local butcher. Yum.

moobar · 29/04/2020 11:52

Another vote for sausage and beans

MaMaMyCorona · 29/04/2020 11:56

Used to love fish fingers with cheesy mash and peas as a kid
Or can't go wrong with serving it with sausages

murasaki · 29/04/2020 12:33

We had it with lamb chops on Sunday. Delicious, but a bugger to clean the stick blender and pan (well done DP) and sadly my turn to wash up as he cooked.

I did say never again, as I scrubbed the bloody thing, but didn't really mean it.

Rattymare · 29/04/2020 12:42

Sausages and tinned tomatoes.

mymadworld · 29/04/2020 12:44

I'm wondering if cheesy mash is a regional thing? Just asked DH (from the north) and he was astounded and appalled in equal measure that I've never had cheesy mash as he had it regularly with veg mixed in (Confused) or sausages. I asked my WhatsApp group of school friends and none of them grew up with it either and we're all raised in the SE.
I'm kind of imagining it a bit like having a pie - absolute staple for DH individual plate pies served as a meal on its own whereas the very rare occasion we had pie it would be a large sharing type served like you would a big family meal with veg, potatoes and gravy. Of course we each think our own way is the only way and of course the bloody kids like dad's no veg option

I can’t think of much food that is not improved with a smattering of cheese... apart from cheese scones

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 29/04/2020 13:01

Muraski fill the pan with warm water and washing up liquid, stick the blender in and turn it on and all the potato with come off the blender head and the pan gets a start of a scrub aswell

AdaColeman · 29/04/2020 13:06

Gammon steaks

Beef casserole

Braised lamb hock

40somethingJBJ · 29/04/2020 13:08

Sausage and beans. Mmm...

Marmite27 · 29/04/2020 13:08

We use a marinade from Costco called Yoshida’s on chicken breasts. Served with steamed green beans, broccoli and sliced red pepper.

A bit of a take on TGI’s Jack Daniels chicken, cheesey mash and vegetables, back when they served it with cheesey mash.

Shannith · 29/04/2020 13:13

It's great with beef, mushroom and ale pie.

Or massive portobello mushrooms that have been baked with obscene amounts of garlic butter.

Or chicken Kiev with more garlic butter than you dreamed possible.

WishMyNameWasWittyNotShitty · 29/04/2020 13:24

Beans and sausages!

JovialNickname · 29/04/2020 16:34

Hunters chicken

Troels · 29/04/2020 17:35

Baked beans.
Cheesy mash and beans seems to be the most well eaten meal at teatime in the care home I work at. They love it.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 29/04/2020 17:38

it's really good fried, like bubble and squeak with a couple of runny yolked eggs on top, lashings of brown sauce too!
