You could grate the red cabbage in a coleslaw. Or boil it as a side - I prefer plain but apparently a touch of wine vinegar is nice.
Or shredded in a salad.

SeaToSki · 26/04/2020 12:15

Send the pub an email and ask them to write a list of what is in the box so you can google for cooking suggestion. Mention the salad stirfry mix up. Im sure it hasn't occurred to them and it will help them be more successful going forward

TheVanguardSix · 26/04/2020 12:16

Oh that'll make a lovely chicken tarragon!

midlifecrash · 26/04/2020 12:16

Fry the garlic and have with fried eggs, yum

weebarra · 26/04/2020 12:17

Wild garlic butter is great. Also pesto.

Ninkanink · 26/04/2020 12:17

Ohhhh the red cabbage will be really good in a coleslaw or remoulade - especially if you also have apples and red onion or shallots. It’s so lovely and fresh and tasty!

Some of it should also definitely be braised to make a good accompaniment the next time you have roast pork.

Trees2905 · 26/04/2020 12:17

Depends how old your kids are but red cabbage is great fun for dying clothes as a science experiment. Chop it up, boil it, then simmer something white in it.

DartmoorChef · 26/04/2020 12:19

Wild garlic can be used in so many dishes. We have loads near us and so far i have added it to..

Risotto
Curry
On pizza
In scrambled egg
Soup
Pesto
And made garlic oil

Lemonblast · 26/04/2020 12:19

Red cabbage with chopped apple and butter baked in oven. With wild garlic obvs Grin

RedRed9 · 26/04/2020 12:21

We have wild garlic in our garden too @misscockerspaniel and I agree it looks nothing like that.

It’s also a bastard that spreads like crazy.

Perhaps there’s more than one kind?

PetitsGateaux · 26/04/2020 12:22

Maybe you could try making okonomiyaki with the red cabbage, instead of using white?

AnnofPeeves · 26/04/2020 12:22

Oh I love wild garlic, we've got it in the garden. Good for pesto, in sauces and is lovely finely shredded in an omelette.

EricaNernie · 26/04/2020 12:24

cna you pick the wild garlic that has flowers?

RedRed9 · 26/04/2020 12:25

It looks like this and has bulbs. (And smells very strong!)

Definitely wild garlic. Makes fantastic pesto.

suggestionsplease1 · 26/04/2020 12:28

You can wrap the garlic leaves around white fish to steam them in parcels. (wilt the leaves first a bit to make them easier to wrap)

ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 26/04/2020 12:29

We treat our wild garlic like spinach and wilt it down for a few minutes then add it to pasta. Goes very well with pesto pasta, or as part of a cream sauce with mushrooms.

SonjaMorgan · 26/04/2020 12:30

Wild garlic is lovely. You can make garlic pesto, garlic and cheese scones, wild garlic and nettle soup is amazing... As for the red cabbage you should pickle it.

GinghamStyle · 26/04/2020 12:30

I’ve had wild garlic in my veg box this week. I used some in a mushroom quiche, chilli con carne and the remaining leaves are going in spaghetti Bol. Lovely alternative to garlic cloves and also adds some colour to the dish.

SonjaMorgan · 26/04/2020 12:31

@EricaNernie yes but it starts to lose its flavour. Also look for 3 cornered leeks.

Twenty2 · 26/04/2020 12:32

That's not wild garlic, @RedRed9, it looks more like 3 cornered leek. It's sometimes called wild garlic, but it's a different species. I have both in my garden. Wild garlic is Allium ursinum and 3 cornered leek is Allium triquetrum.

fuckinghellthisshit · 26/04/2020 12:37

This is fantastic
Thanks

@RedRed9 That looks like three cornered leek. Allium triquetrum

The veg box one is 100% wild garlic Allium ursinum

Twenty2 · 26/04/2020 12:51

First one is wild garlic, second 3 cornered leek. I'm a perennial veg enthusiast Grin

Thanks @WitchQueenofDarkness

The whole neighbourhood is in agreement that it’s wild garlic (it’s a common topic of discussion 😂) but I suppose, like me, someone once told them it was and they took it at face value.

Leek makes sense as it smells very oniony!
