DH can't trim our bush because of the neighbours!

DH was working this morning. Then after lunch we all went for our walk. As we were walking home, he said as it was still early, he wants to trim the bush in our front garden.

But when we get back, a few of the neighbours are all sitting out the front with drinks and having a chat.

So I said he couldn't trim our bush because it's quite loud and would be very anti social. He says he's going to do it anyway. I said do it tomorrow but he doesn't see why he should change his plans because of them. (So I'm keeping out of it!)

And no we don't want to join the neighbours outside. I'm happy to say hello and pass the time of day with them but I don't want to sit outside with them.

So what would you do in our situation?

Join the neighbours?
Do the bush?
Or do neither and just stay indoors?

I’d do the bush and give them a cheery wave from 2m away

yerawizadari · 25/04/2020 17:15

What sort of bush is it?

AppleKatie · 25/04/2020 17:18

Is the bush more than a 10 min job? I think that’d be my decider.

HappyHammy · 25/04/2020 17:18

Can he use shears

Ginfordinner · 25/04/2020 17:20

It's going to rain tomorrow so he might as well do it now.

willowmelangell · 25/04/2020 17:28

Garden shears and lopper or electric?
I've done a bodgy job on my hedge today because I didn't want to use the electric trimmer. Too peaceful and calm to spoil.

I’d trim it. Without a doubt.

This made me laugh if he wants to trim the bush let him, the neighbours will say if it's annoying . If it's close ie less than 2 metres then definitely not .
I'm not understanding the joining the neighbours because no you should be social distancing so trim the bush then go in .

They don't have dibs on anything. He can trim the bush if he wants.

recycledteenager24 · 25/04/2020 17:38

so what happened op ?

Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe · 25/04/2020 17:39

stick your head over the fene and say hi neighbours we are just going to trim this bush as its a right state ..we will only be 10 mins then we will leave you in peace....its all it takes. That way you are making your point you Are cutting the bush and giving them no voice to argue but you are showing maximum (fake) consideration...job done..other than the bush!!

FeckTheMagicDragon · 25/04/2020 17:41

I mis-read that as trim my bush because of the neighbors. I need to get new glasses.

onceandneveragain · 25/04/2020 17:45

@Ginfordinner - how do you know where the op is in order to be so sure what the weather will be like near them tomorrow? Confused

Actually op I think it's a bit rude. If you're worried about the noise that suggests it's an electric trimmer so they won't be able to continue their conversation, so effectively breaking up their gathering just for a job that he could have done any other time after he'd finished work, or over the last week...considering it doesn't tend to get dark in most of the UK until at least 8ish could he not just wait half an hour or so to see if their chat naturally comes to an end? Why antagonize people unnecessarily, particularly neighbours who it's usually helpful to be on good terms with -i say this as someone with horrible neighbours myself!

Samtsirch · 25/04/2020 17:45

I thought this was going to be a rude thread.
I obviously need to get a new hobby
😂🤣😂

^what Sallycinammon said

FallonSwift · 25/04/2020 17:47

What @Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe said.

But first check that there aren't any birds nesting in there first. It's illegal to disturb them and the nesting season tends to run Mar-Aug

Rollergirl11 · 25/04/2020 17:49

Isn’t it getting a bit late to trim your bush?

EmbarrassedUser · 25/04/2020 17:54

Trim the bush 😂😂 Is this a euphemism for something else @EloiseTheFirst Love it!!

EloiseTheFirst · 25/04/2020 17:55

Good point about the birds. I'll make sure he checks.

It's a huge bush that's encroaching on our driveway so more than a 10 minute job.

And it's an electric hedge trimmer and quite loud.

One of the neighbours has now set up a small BBQ out there (like you use when camping) so it looks like they're planning on being out there a while!

DH is still indoors muttering that it'll be too antisocial to do it now but it's going to rain tomorrow.

I trimmed my bush today. Well, I meant to trim it but actually gave it a total butchering...

I've been sniggering about it for hours I'm that childish.

Aridane · 25/04/2020 18:00

What sort of bush is it?

@yerawizadari - my phone and the adverts that come up seem to have their own idea about what sort of Bush this is Grin
