How to clean my butt? TMI

Im really struggling to keep clean after pooping. I am on iron tablets which makes my BM very black, soft and tar like and I also have piles. Wiping with tissue never fully cleans, or takes forever and is painful. Sometimes I just jump in the shout, but it’s a pain.

Is there a flushable wipe that is actually flushable yet? I obviously don’t want to be flushing normal wipes. I also don’t really like the idea of using wipes and putting them in the bin.

Please don't put any wipes down the toilet. Not the ones that say they flush or 'dissolve' in contact with water. Our next door neighbour used 'flushable' wipes as I found out when we had sewage coming up our driveway from their blocked drain. Cost them £400 to get it sorted.

None of them do properly and they are incredibly bad for the environment. I can't believe people still buy these things.

@dollycat123
What is the Sainsburys thing actually called. What aisle?

Any truly flushable wipe would present the same issue as toilet roll - disintegrating when it gets wet.

You’ll have to accept that showers are the way or bulk buy some flannels (or cut up an old towel and sew the edges if you are craft inclined).

Use this to give yourself a good clean and wash. Have a separate box in your laundry if you’re squeamish.

EricaNernie · 26/04/2020 08:33

A bidet would be ideal.
loss popular in uk sadly

Dieu · 26/04/2020 08:37

I would buy a pack of cheap IKEA facecloths, use those, and wash them on a hot cycle.

Dieu · 26/04/2020 08:40

Also, flushable wipes aren't really flushable. They'll cause a blockage at some stage. Any plumber would tell you the same Smile

crabb · 26/04/2020 08:40

Thank you for sharing this! Like a PP said, I thought I was the only one.

Peopleshouldsmilemore · 26/04/2020 09:11

We use the baby moisturiser, always in a pink bottle, either supermarket own brand or Johnson and Johnson. Just squirt a little on the toilet paper.

maddy68 · 26/04/2020 09:15

We have a bidet. It's changed my life. If you don't have one you need to shower afterwards.

StarlightLady · 26/04/2020 10:20

There should be no concerns about any items going in a sanitory bin. They are there for such things.

If you are regularly fully waxed, or at least shaved it helps; no hairs for anything to stick too. Also when you do bath/shower wash your bum with hair conditioner, again it’s slippery and works better than any shower gel.

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 26/04/2020 10:25

Never flush so called wasable wipes. If you try wet toilet paper and it falls a apart straight away it is obvious that wipes arent going to do this.
Wash! Any of the methods described above.

Ginfordinner · 26/04/2020 10:30

The main cause of blockages: wet wipes. A staggering 40% of blockages are caused by wet wipes, including so-called flushable wipes that don't break down in the sewer

Only pee, paper and poo should go down the loo.

From Yorkshire Water's website ^^

vdbfamily · 26/04/2020 10:32

If you already have cheeky wipes for baby with a clean/ dirty container system it would seem like obvious solution. We usually use toilet paper for first couple of wipes to get any lumps/ excess poo off but the cheeky wipe is for final wipe to make sure it is all clean. We have used them for a couple of years now and I recommend them to everyone. Whilst the world was panic buying loo roll I was feeling quietly smug!!

Qgardens · 26/04/2020 10:40

I have this issue. Not piles but a permanent lump. Can't remember the name of it. It's really difficult to clean properly. Currently I do my best wiping lots, walk around for a few minutes then go back and do it again. Normally that works. Or I use wet wipes then bin them in nappy sacs.

Have been refused an NHS operation as it's deemed cosmetic nowadays (wouldn't have been a few years ago), and my private health also won't pay for it. Will probably have to swallow the cost at some point but the initial consultation is over £100. Don't really want to prioritise it, but I know I will struggle when I'm really old and less dexterous, so I might as well get it done sooner so that I can benefit for longer.

Slattery · 26/04/2020 11:43

If you try wet toilet paper and it falls a apart straight away it is obvious that wipes arent going to do this.

As I’ve said upthread. One brand does actually do this. You wet it and it disintegrates.

Terralee · 26/04/2020 12:02

I can't believe a grown adult is actually posting this & people are sharing their stories

Ginfordinner · 26/04/2020 12:10

So, why not just use toilet roll instead Slattery? Confused

Slattery · 26/04/2020 12:20

@Ginfordinner - really? You've read this thread and you're still not sure why some people would prefer a soothing wipe to rough TP on their bleeding piles and other raw areas of skin? You're being ridiculous.

Bloodybridget · 26/04/2020 12:22

No wipes should be flushed, even if they say they're flushable - water companies tell us this all the time. Just put them in your lined bathroom bin.

Ginfordinner · 26/04/2020 12:45

Slattery no reason why they can't be used. Just don't flush them - put them in the bin. Water companies keep having to ask the public not to flush "flushable" wipes Hmm

MyBlueMoonbeam · 26/04/2020 13:57

@Terralee

Well several posters have thanked the OP for posting as they have similar issue so 🤷‍♀️

BunnytheHoneyBee · 26/04/2020 14:10

I have a bidet hose / bum gun. If you have a long term problem with this then I’d recommend a bum gun or bidet. I recommend it for anyone actually as I don’t think toilet paper cleans you. Otherwise a spray bottle as PP suggests.

StarlightLady · 26/04/2020 15:05

@Terralee - You are ignoring the fact that the OP has a medical problem.

Merename · 26/04/2020 15:16

Op, you absolutely have to use your cheeky wipes on your little ones poos! They are eleventy million times better than disposables, which imo, smear poo around. We don’t even do the dirty soak box thing (I found it so minging getting that into the machine). Just pile used wipes into a dry tub and always wash separately at 60 with towels or sheets.

Sorry about the sore bum, piles etc are awful. I think cheeky wipes would be a consideration for this too?
