How to clean my butt? TMI

Im really struggling to keep clean after pooping. I am on iron tablets which makes my BM very black, soft and tar like and I also have piles. Wiping with tissue never fully cleans, or takes forever and is painful. Sometimes I just jump in the shout, but it’s a pain.

Is there a flushable wipe that is actually flushable yet? I obviously don’t want to be flushing normal wipes. I also don’t really like the idea of using wipes and putting them in the bin.

Please do NOT flush anything down the toilet that is not loo roll or bodily fluids.

villageshop · 25/04/2020 19:07

I have a hand-held shower attachment on the bath which I use to wash with soap after a poo (I have a similar issue as yours by the sound of things).

One foot on the floor, the other leg astride the bath resting on the other side, soapy hand and water from the shower and it's all done with no fuss in 20 seconds.

fretnot · 25/04/2020 19:15

I think you’re best off with a hot sitz bath (inch or two of hot water in the bath if nothing else). I know it’s a faff but with piles it’s so so helpful for healing. You can clean and massage back them less painfully when submerged in water. And you can keep your top half clothed!

Good luck - iron tablets are of the devil when dealing with other bum issues.

Sainsburys do a bottom spritz spray with aloe that you spray on the toilet paper to moisten it, lasts for ages and is soothing. I have very hairy teenage sons who wanted wet wipes this is a great alternative.

EricaNernie · 25/04/2020 20:12

I also time things before my shower

Slattery · 25/04/2020 20:14

The Waitrose own brand wipes truly disintegrate and so are flushable.

CherryPavlova · 25/04/2020 20:15

Are you sure you don’t have a rectocele?

Potionqueen · 25/04/2020 21:37

Use wet wipes, put wet wipe in a dog poo bag or nappy sac then dispose in normal bin.
Simples.

dementedpixie · 25/04/2020 21:40

You dont need to put it in a bag if you have a lidded lined bathroom bin

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 25/04/2020 21:45

DS (11) isn't great at wiping after a big poo (no idea why, he used to be fine but has been having more trouble lately) so I bought some flushable wipes and make sure to empty the bathroom bin regularly.

I second the sitz bath idea as well.

MarylandMayhem · 25/04/2020 21:49

Have you tried applying an oil to the skin around the area before you go? It will help stop poo sticking to the skin. You can use coconut oil.

nearlynermal · 25/04/2020 22:00

Sweet almond oil is also good

a12345b · 25/04/2020 22:11

You could just use a jug, after cleaning with tissue use the jug to our water whilst cleaning yourself with the other hand.

NCforthisMarch · 25/04/2020 23:52

Just use soap and water after wiping with toilet paper

An easy way would be to fill a squeeze bottle (eg washing up liquid) with warm water, rinse, soap & rinse again

Dry off with toilet paper/flannel/cut up t-shirt or similar and wash with your towels (as wont have poo on them)

LOTS of Asian people wash after a poo, and think just using TP is disgusting

Ginfordinner · 26/04/2020 00:02

Slattery most, if not all, water companies ask people not to put "flushable" wipes down the toilet.

idlevice · 26/04/2020 00:18

Use a friendlier iron supplement, eg iron bisglycinate, instead of ferrous sulphate. Available online and/or Holland & Barrett.

BigChocFrenzy · 26/04/2020 00:21

Why not use a flannel
and put in the laundry at 60C or whatever

You'd need several

Buggedandconfused · 26/04/2020 00:30

I had the ‘Halo’ operation to fix this problem. It’s really helped.

Slattery · 26/04/2020 00:49

I know that, @Ginfordinner Confused

Which is why I did not recommend ‘any old wipe’ to the OP.

The Waitrose own brand wipes are the only ones on the market that actually break down upon contact with water, just like toilet paper.

That’s why I recommended them.

Have a lovely day!

MyBlueMoonbeam · 26/04/2020 02:35

I fill an empty liquid soap container with diluted soap & dampen toilet paper with it - flush as usual no problems 🙂

stellabelle · 26/04/2020 07:08

Get a bidet. It will change your life. Mine is an electric one - you press a button and the warm water washes your butt and you can even dry yourself with warm air. I wouldn't be without mine ! I can't even imagine using a piece of dry paper for the job now .

CottonSock · 26/04/2020 07:22

I have similar problems. I either use a wet wipe which I bin, or a washable wipe with some plain cream. I have a white set for bottoms and the coloured cheeky wipes for faces, hands etc so no mix up.

filka · 26/04/2020 07:53

Would agree with @stellabelle but as bathrooms in the UK have got smaller there isn't usually space for one and they're a bit unfashionable.

I live abroad, we usually use something like this:
www.amazon.co.uk/Handheld-Frap-Stainless-Bathroom-T-Adapter/dp/B07THYCJD3/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?dchild=1&psc=1&s=kitchen&crid=1MBP1XEV4SUIU&keywords=toilet+spray&sprefix=toilet+spry%2Ckitchen%2C259&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyNjdKWUxLODRGN0RQJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwODM0MzA3M0VDV0VJNU1STDBGTyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwODY5ODkyQ0lNNVVUN0dZUVFFJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1587883814&sr=1-2-spons

But it needs to be plumbed in and I'm not sure if that's OK in the UK because there usually isn't a drain in the floor like we have, just in case of problems.

But a jug of water works just as well.

WingBingo · 26/04/2020 08:00

And there’s me wondering if I am the only one with this problem, nice to know I am not alone.

I manage to time it so I go before my daily shower.

Any unscheduled visits and I use wipes but put in them in the bin.
