Something like Joe Wicks if you live in a flat

I want to do some sort of workout with my 8 year old. We tried pe with Joe wicks but we live in a flat and can't be jumping or running. Has anyone something not so noisy?

This kind of thing? It’s flat friendly, and looks like it would be quiet (although I’d be screaming the whole way through!) She’s Cassey Ho on Twitter, and I think she has another quiet workout on her page somewhere.

Thank you. That looks ideal

I think Joe Wicks has some low impact workouts suitable for flats / hotel rooms (no jumping around!). They'll be on his YouTube channel.

Twixandtwirl · 24/04/2020 07:15

I live in a flat and do the walking from home videos.

legalseagull · 24/04/2020 07:17

Just do with Joe wicks. It's only half an hour, of which only a few exercises are bouncey. Your neighbours must surely expect a bit more noise than usual as everyone is home? I wouldn't be concerned about this from my neighbour at all. It'd be over before o had a chance to get worked up

Divebar · 24/04/2020 07:20

Could you take it outside to a park and do it from your phone.... I think the jumping & running bits are pretty important ( although I’m rickety enough to probably prefer it more low impact)

SydneyCarton · 24/04/2020 07:22

We live in a first floor flat and do the Joe Wicks workout Blush. Not all of it is jumping around and as legalseagull says it’s barely half an hour, and it’s at 9 am when everyone is awake.

Peonyonpoint · 24/04/2020 07:26

Blogilates is really great though! I love her.

angelopal · 24/04/2020 07:27

Cosmic yoga is good.

sarahc336 · 24/04/2020 07:29

Lots of the people on you tube, joe wicks, heather robertson do low impact or no jumping exercise work outs, look out for those ones xx

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/04/2020 08:07

Emi Wong, search on YouTube - she does interval workouts with no jumping specifically for people living in flats

Lockdownlife · 24/04/2020 08:15

I live in a flat too with people above and people below me. At first I was reluctant to do any form of noisy exercise then I realised how long this would go on. I just do it anyway because the neighbours would need to understand. In normal circumstances they don't hear a peep from me.

I try to do do it between 6-8pm. That way I'm not disturbing those downstairs if they are wanting a long lie, working from home, or go to bed early.

The people upstairs are noisy all day, moreso now with their newly fitted hard floor. I wonder what exercise they're doing 😂

BlueGheko · 24/04/2020 08:23

Bodyfit by Amy on you tube does a 20 minute low impact hiit work out for people who live in flats. You can even do with your trainers off.

plunkplunkfizz · 24/04/2020 08:29

it’s barely half an hour, and it’s at 9 am when everyone is awake.

Awake and perhaps trying to work? Hmm

HarrietTheShy · 24/04/2020 08:50

Check out Leslie Sansone on Youtube. Loads of free walking videos. She does side steps, knee lifts, arm moves too so it's interactive but without the thumping/jumping.

motheroreily · 24/04/2020 19:51

Thank you for your suggestions
We did Joe wicks tonight. I was nervous as the person downstairs has complained about walking around noise which we can't help. But they bang on the ceiling today. The actual jumping/running bit probably lasted 10 mins at most in total and was broken up into 30 second stints

We enjoyed it. I'm going to look at your other suggestions too. Smile

Your neighbours are being totally unreasonable! The actual workout is only 20 minutes, of which no more than half involved jumping. What is their actual objection - length, time of day, or what?

FlowerArranger · 24/04/2020 20:00

Rebecca Louise has some nice workouts, including special lockdown ones. She is lovely and bubbly and your 8-year-old will probably be able to relate to her - and her dogs Alphie and Penny Smile

preponderings · 24/04/2020 20:01

If you have a switch, the ring fit adventure is good fun for that age.

TooMinty · 24/04/2020 20:04

Cosmic kids yoga? But I'd just ignore your neighbours and do Joe Wickes, half an hour under these circumstances isn't unreasonable as long as it's daytime.

AnotherMurkyDay · 24/04/2020 20:05

So long as you are doing it in sociable hours I think you are being entirely reasonable and should do Joe Wickes. Or anything else that takes your fancy. I'm a big fan of Davinas work outs and lots are on you tube

Scarydinosaurs · 24/04/2020 20:07

Could you go and let your neighbour know you’ll be doing it at X time for X minutes and just let them know?

If they know it won’t go on and on they’ll probably be okay about it.

KoalasandRabbit · 24/04/2020 20:07

TheChosenTwo · 24/04/2020 20:09

Could you write a note and post it through your downstairs neighbour and ask if it’s okay?
I think 20 minutes of moderate exercise is acceptable and if I lived in a flat I’d be understanding within reason. Saying that, I lived in flats for all my childhood and heard noises occasionally, no one got pissed off and I don’t remember my parents having any issues with it. I live in a semi now and hear far too much from my neighbours than I’d like but say nothing - it’s just life!
It’s not all jumping and leaping about either.
You could do it a bit later if they needed to negotiate a bit, it’s saved on there forever so if you needed to, you could just schedule it in for a different time.
