Where do you buy your clothes?

Since more shops on the high street are going into administration and some moving online, from which retailers do you buy your clothes?

I live a while away from a decent shopping centre so tend to rely on Asos for a lot of stuff as I find their own items ok but they stock a lot of other brands too but obviously not all (am 31 if it’s relevant).

But from reading other threads I see people buying from a lot of retailers that I never knew existed and I wanted to have a look! E.g. I saw a post about Cos, but I have never been into a store as there’s none near me and so I wouldn’t know to look on their site if I wanted to have more options as I didn’t really know about it.

I'm wondering what the fate of these buildings will be ?

Town centre shopping malls ( eurgh the word "Mall" grates but hey-ho) aren't really ideal for housing but I reckon they'll get turned into flats .

I do prefer to go to the shops rather than online . I like to see something instore and 99% of the time I go home to think about it then order to pick up in store , to reduce impulse buys . (Of course sometimes I do See- Buy Grin )

My shopping old favourites -
M&S -shoes (good range of vegan footwear) , leggings, trousers , tops, underpants
Primark- socks and bras (I like loads of them)
H&M for tops
QVC for random tops and coats
Uniqlo- tops and jumpers

If it's all online I probably won't buy much at all .

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/04/2020 14:37

I've never been in Cos either .
Or bought from Seasalt, Zara , Boden, & Other Stories , Me&Em, Mint Velvet , River Island, LK Bennett, Massimo Dutti, Reiss , Monsoon, The White Company, Wallis, Warehouse,

I am missing a lot .

I am just concerned these empty shops will turn to Betting Shops, fast food shops or (worse) stay empty Sad

Dbrook · 22/04/2020 14:39

I love Hush. It’s already online only with no physical shop, though they also sell through John Lewis and do pop up shops sometimes. Also love COS, Uniqlo, & Other Stories and Zara.

Charity shops!

Lyricallie · 22/04/2020 14:43

I'm 27 and I mainly shop on ASOS, New Look and boohoo. Also the closest shops to me is 2.5 hour drive so all my shopping is online. I used to like getting things from OasisSad. I just bought a dress from Oliver Bonas that I'm waiting to arrive (in the sale). I do like getting bits on eBay too. Also now I'm getting a bit older and actually have money I'm looking at shops with a bit better quality as I'm so fed up with boohoo stuff looking a bit rubbish. So mainly stuff that's a bit more expensive on ASOS.

CakeItOrLeave · 22/04/2020 14:47

I’m in my early 20’s. I shop using Zara, Prettylittlething, H&M and Primark

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/04/2020 14:48

online shopping (IMO) has become so popular because of the ease
Free delivery , Free returns (either pick up or drop in Asda ) - it's created its own monster really .

There's a much better Change of Mind policy than instore .

But how many times I see " I ordered £200 worth of Boden but its all going back" .
So the shop has a load of returns . I know if I buy something instore that someone has most likely tried it on.
Impulse shopping online - it makes it too easy .

One of my bugbears with QVC is the P&P (in this day and age) but it does work in my favour because I only buy something if I really want it . I don;t want to pay £3 to send it to me and the same to return.

How much ends up in Clearance or wasted because it's been sent out , worn and returned ?

Verily1 · 22/04/2020 14:58

I’ve never bought clothes online.

I’m an hourglass shape so have always had to try on 10 items for every one I buy to find something that fits right.

In my wardrobe is Sainsbury’s/ Tu, Tesco F&F, new look, M&S, primark, Dorothy Perkins, next, phase eight, Debenhams.

I get my bras from bravissimo and would buy more clothes from them if they were cheaper as they actually fit!

Cooloncraze · 22/04/2020 14:58

I’m early 40s. I only shop online - Cos, Whistles, Riyka, Toast (sale only) H&M sometimes.
Try not to buy much but generally clothes from these stores last well

nitgel · 22/04/2020 14:59

mostly Uniqlo, plus Free People for tshirts. Hush for sweats. Occasionally French Connection.

LolaSmiles · 22/04/2020 15:04

H&M, charity shops, TK Maxx and Etsy

RingaRosie · 22/04/2020 15:04

TK Maxx, H&M for t-shirts, & Other Stories, Benetton for jumpers, Charity Shops / Independent Boutiques. M&S, sometimes.
Recently bought maternity wear in Cos. Actually just their normal dresses, which aren’t my usual style, but everything is in a tent / cocoon shape so it works!

Cecilia2016 · 22/04/2020 15:09

Debenhams, Dorothy Perkins, oasis and warehouse.

Dowser · 22/04/2020 15:14

68, only wear dresses and a certain style...skater or waisted type
Quiz and select are my go to store
Won’t be popular on here as they are all polyester.
I love nice bright colours,
A new consignment was delivered the other day,
I must stop eating otherwise the snug fit will change to won’t fit.
Get my pants from Walmart..that’s not easy.
Primark do some lovely little strappy cami type nighties And now and again the odd find in tk maxx
I love sainsburys bras
I have loads of shoes, boots and sandals..Joe browns, deichmann boots etc
Quiz is closed for now
So no fix from anywhere
Oh and I prefer sleeveless..winter and summer..happy to let my bingo wings hang out

Used to buy everything Penny's new look etc when was younger. Now late 30's so am trying to buy less but better quality. Have a fondness for some designer brands too. Shop Dunnes, River Island and Zara a god bit. Have recently discovered Massimo Dutti, Reiss and COS. Cos has very good basics that wash well. Also actually do a good trawl of Ebloggers and Ebay and have got some bargains. There are a good few boutiques near me that have some amazing stuff with excellent customer service and brands. I shop there too. Hate Bohoo, pretty little things etc. To me its just really bad quality. Lockdown has shown me I do not need so many clothes and will do my very best to reduce my spend on clothing ad buy more sustainable

Snufkins · 22/04/2020 15:34

Thanks for lots of suggestions! Hadn’t heard of a few of them so I’ll be sure to check them all out.

UNIQLO can be good, their web site doesn't really sell the clothes and the sizing can be weird but they have some good stuff

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 22/04/2020 16:46

Next, DPs, M&S for underwear and Primark for pjs and vest tops. I like George Asda but their sizing I’ve found really inconsistent recently so end up having to return stuff.

weegiemum · 22/04/2020 21:13

I'm on the larger side, buy mainly online from Yours, Mariposa and Curvissa, occasionally Evans (good for jeans and bras). I like having a browse in shops but there are hardly any Evans branches anymore. Yours are in the bigger shopping centres.

Bluesheep8 · 23/04/2020 06:33

Charity shops
Primark
Supermarkets
Occaionally New Look

tectonicplates · 23/04/2020 07:40

@Verily1 I'm an hourglass shape and I buy most of my clothes from Collectif - you are seriously missing out! In fact, most of the vintage-style companies make clothes for us - Hell Bunny etc, any of the brands sold by Top Vintage. And you don't even have to love vintage style, because Collectif make far more plain stuff and workwear than people realise. Their clothes go in at the waist and have plenty of bust allowance, especially the Caterina shirt dresses.

Apart from that I have a few Jersey dresses from Boden as the stretch of the fabric works for me, and a couple of jersey dresses from Dorothy Perkins for summer days in the park.

It's very rare for me to me to find anything on the high street that fits so I don't actually know why you'd bother when there are so many "alternative" brands online who actually make decent stuff.

HeimdallSaysNo · 23/04/2020 07:46

I'm very pear-shaped. I like Simply Be's jeans (shape and sculpt), Joe Browns tops, Seasalt's sailor tops and tunics, M&S underwear, shoes are usually a pair of skechers trainers or extra wide boots from Simply Be (again ).

HeimdallSaysNo · 23/04/2020 07:48

I very occasionally buy something in Sainsbury's (TU) but quite often they don't upscale the upper arms too well so shirts etc are impossibly tight. I like their handbags though.

AnnaNimmity · 23/04/2020 07:50

haven't really bought any for a while. But I buy quite a lot from a small local shop to me that stocks different labels (scandi stuff), some from the French shops - maje, Sandro, BA&SH, Zadig & Voltaire, - they are all on a high street quite close to me, so easy to shop from, and some clothes from & Other Stories. Just ordered some things from Me&Em as they have a 25% code. I'm in my 40s.

Ragwort · 23/04/2020 07:52

I did a challenge of never buying any new clothes for a year several years ago ... I have stuck to it ever since and only buy from charity shops. There are 16 in my town Grin, I stick to 2 or 3 that I know have decent donations, well presented.
