Where do you buy your clothes?

Since more shops on the high street are going into administration and some moving online, from which retailers do you buy your clothes?

I live a while away from a decent shopping centre so tend to rely on Asos for a lot of stuff as I find their own items ok but they stock a lot of other brands too but obviously not all (am 31 if it’s relevant).

But from reading other threads I see people buying from a lot of retailers that I never knew existed and I wanted to have a look! E.g. I saw a post about Cos, but I have never been into a store as there’s none near me and so I wouldn’t know to look on their site if I wanted to have more options as I didn’t really know about it.

I am 60. I recently bought a white Per Una (M&S) white denim jacket and white trainers. I do buy quite a bit from Marks including shoes and bras as wide feet and busty size 18/20. I buy socks from Primark and M&S, bought some nice dresses including a navy one for my Aunt's funeral (before lockdown so I could properly say Goodbye unlike some poor people) from Asos though I find it hard in their curve range as we don't all like to show off our fat thighs and cleavage but yet have high necks!

I have rediscovered a lovely leopard skin top that was from George at Asda. I do buy from QVC and have not yet returned anything. I got some lovely Helene Birman leopardskin trousers that were too long but my friend turned them up for me. Yay!

I do also buy from next but am finding that like a lot of shops you can only get over size 16 online. Ridiculous!

Thanks to you lot I have become a great fan of Cos. Not the ridiculously thick fabric they keep using but they have some lovely cotton stuff.

I have also shopped a lot in Debenhams for work wear as well as more casual stuff but too often like everywhere else it is mostly Viscose. Some people love it it makes me sweat heavily.

I'm mid thirties and mainly buy online. Most of my stuff is from ASOS, Missguided and SheIN. I also love Zara. I used to be a big fan if Topshop but I find it really overpriced now. I'm tall and find high street shops just don't cater for tall people so have to get a lot of stuff online where they have dedicated tall sections. Also love primark but find you have to go to the larger ones to get the best bits.

I use EBay a lot - I just search for the brands above on there

I am very short so prefer to buy in store where I can try on and see if things fit. I am late 30s, and shop in H&M/ Primark/ New Look for tops, jeans from Next, Dorothy Perkins and Sainsburys (the Sainsburys ones were a bit crap though). I don't know where else is any good for very short people and my local Dorothy Perkins just shut down. I also like to go to Fat Face and a vintage shop when there is a sale or I have money to spend on things I don't need (I have bought too many pinafores in the vintage shop which I love but rarely wear because I am not actually a dress person)

I used to buy from Witt online. Slightly dearer but good quality .
Now I’m not shopping. Just wearing what I’ve got.

Bluejuicyapple · 23/04/2020 08:00

I buy mainly from H&M. So long as you’re careful about what you buy i think it’s the best of the high street. Their jumpers and jeans are excellent As are their blouses. Plain tops from uniqlo and classics from M&S (dresses, blazers, jeans). I mix with expensive bags and accessories. Mid 40’s. I also quite like Warehouse, &otherstories

@happypotamus Boden have lots of petites but they are online only. You miss out on so much by not shopping online.

Collectif and most vintage-style brands are great for tops and knitwear because they're mainly designed to be a slightly cropped style on women of average height, so they actually are a perfect length on petites. I promise I don't work for them, I just wish there was more awareness about it because ever since discovering them Once found out so much easier to buy clothes. It's changed the way I feel about my body.

I’m 34 and haven’t really bout light any new clothes for the last 4 years except maternity and nursing ones! Except jeans & jeggings from M&S and new look as and when I go through the knees Hmm My MIL always gives me tops or jumpers from Crew or Joules for birthday / Christmas which are nice. So when I actually need to start buying some normal new clothes not sure where I’ll get from! I’m at home with the kids or WFH so it feels stupid to pay lots for stuff only I see most of the time

tectonicplates · 23/04/2020 08:12

Also, Seasalt recently started making petites! Again they're online only Hmm but they really are of very good quality. It does annoy me that they don't sell them in physical shops but that's another reason why shopping online is better because you get way more choice.

Don't suppose any of you know what the sizing is like at Dorothy Perkins do you? They've got 25% off everything at the moment but I don't want to order loads of stuff only to have to send it all back if it doesn't fit. I'm usually a 10.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 01/05/2020 15:28

In case anyone else is interested, I ordered my Dotty P haul in size 10, and everything fitted nicely. Grin

I just started using asos about six months ago, but I love it. It also has clothing in smaller sizes, which is great for me. I also find some things in Places like River Island, Zahra, Macy’s from the US… Uniqlo. Sorry, I mean using dictation so a lot of these names won’t come out correctly.

There are some US shops, and some Australian another place shops that I really like to. Cotton on, when I have access to it, and there’s another shop in the US called Lilly Pulitzer, it’s a bit expensive so I don’t buy much there, but the designs are very pretty.

Also esprit

And another shop I found out a couple of months ago called reserve.

SneakersandSocks · 01/05/2020 15:54

I shop mainly at Monki , H&M and Zara. I do tend to shop online but would rather go into Zara as their sizes are not exactly consistent so I need to try things on.

I haven’t actually purchased any new clothes in the last 4/5 months as still trying to shift this baby weight, non of my old clothes fit me so just been wearing the few things that do ( Monki clothes are quite generous , the cut is quite Scandi and loose) so great all through pregnancy too! Didn’t need to buy any maternity clothes!

KellyHall · 01/05/2020 16:01

Ebay

Probably regret about 1 in 10 purchases!

Umnoway · 01/05/2020 16:26

M&S for underwear always.
H&M, ASOS and occasionally Boohoo for other stuff.

I get some second hand bits on eBay too especially maternity clothes which I’m currently in.

SweetPetrichor · 01/05/2020 16:46

I buy occasional things from Joules and Fat Face.
Most of my t-shirts are men's asda tshirts...so comfy...and I buy my pants and socks from asda too.
Bras from Bravissimo.
Work clothes and any random nice things from Black Milk.

Standrewsschool · 02/05/2020 09:04

M and S has some nice stuff in at the moment - worth a look. Especially good for basics, and like their jewellery range.

Next - used to love their clearance section on their website, which has temporarily (I hope) gone at the moment. Got some great bargains there.

Boden - in sales.

TKmaxx - occasionally pick up something here.

Think that sums up my wardrobe. Very traditional!
