Admit it, you don't do a singe exercises since the lockdown...

So I have never been a massive exercise addict, but since the lockdown i feel lazier than ever. I do go for a daily walk on most days ( actually that's a lie, maybe on every other day...) and walk to the shop on a sunny day, but with my new found freedom of doing nothing and floating around in my PJ till noon, eating crap, baking and cooking more than during Xmas ; I feel relaxed, happy and fab. When I see people running past my house, I feel even better and do not feel the urge to do exercising at all, instead waching movies and doing some limited housework...very limited as don't want to overdo it at all Wink I might be the laziest women in England and soon to be the fattest.... please tell me I am not on my own and we can form a group once this is all over Wink

Well, yes this is me. Sort of. I keep having a heart hearted attempt at Couch to 5k when I step on the scales and think FUUUUCCCK. And panic I’ll have a stroke or a heart attack if I carry on like this. And then the next day comes and I just want to eat all the cake again. It’s hard.

AgeLikeWine · 20/04/2020 20:56

I walk at least 10km a day, including hills. I’m loving the spring sunshine Smile.

devildeepbluesea · 20/04/2020 20:56

Totally gone the other way, I'm exercising for something to do. I take the ancient dog for his trot around the block super early, then do pump or combat. Every other day I'll do a run.

lovinglavidaloca · 20/04/2020 20:57

I’m another one who has gone the other way! Figured this is the only time I’ll be able to devote myself to it with no excuses.

UnderTheIroningBoard · 20/04/2020 20:58

I've actually done more! I still have to work and walk a mile to the office and backdaily (I used to get the bus, but would sooner social distance as much as possible so sometimes get the bus back, but more often not).

Foghead · 20/04/2020 20:59

I’ve been a big exerciser but I do need to do something every day otherwise I get stroppy. I just do a 20 minute or so workout and that’s enough to keep me calm.

Emmapeeler1 · 20/04/2020 21:02

30 minutes walking a day is not nothing OP.

I walk around 45 minutes a day and it makes me feel good. I also don't really have more time as I am still working and home-schooling. I'm not doing yoga anymore. But I am enjoying my evening walks.

Try putting headphones in or getting a pedometer?

DefConOne · 20/04/2020 21:04

I’ve replaced my usual 2x week very energetic dance fitness class for running. Very reluctantly. I’m no runner, 3 stone overweight and asthmatic but can already do 5k without stopping. I need loud music though. Also doing 2x week family bike rides. My tummy is just as huge and flabby but thighs are toning up.

Eating waaaayyy too much though. WFH but now gave 90 mins extra from commuting time. Cooking lush food and the DC coming on nicely with their baking. How can I mark food tech without tasting their efforts?

dementedma · 20/04/2020 21:08

I genuinely (and not goady) do not understand people who like exercise. I have tried, God knows, I have tried. Couch to 5 K, done it. Pilates. Yoga. Swimming. Walking...done it
Hi intensity, kettle chip - sorry kettle bell - aerobic, cardio, weight whatever - no intention of even starting. It all HURTS. It makes you feel sick, achy, hot , sweaty and hungry. I really, really wish I could get the running/gym/workout bug and I HAVE tried but really?
I am doing an hours walk every day and a few stretches, which is more than I did when I wasn’t in lockdown. I’m not having a go - I would love to be toned and ripped and slim and stuff but it is all so fucking BORING and HORRIBLE.
What is the key to enjoying exercise?

lovinglavidaloca · 20/04/2020 21:11

Just stick at it @dementedma! It does start to feel ok.

StraightAndNarrow · 20/04/2020 21:12

The first few weeks of lockdown I was just lazing about stuffing my face and boozing. Enjoyable for a bit, but I soon started to feel like shit.

For the past week or so I’ve knocked alcohol on the head and been doing daily yoga and walks. Feel so much better.

No preaching from me, though. We all need to do what helps us stay sane and gives us joy in these strange times.

midsomermurderess · 20/04/2020 21:18

I'm still going out on my bike most days. Half an hour around the paths around me. It does my head a power of good if nothing else.

Jupiter202020201 · 20/04/2020 21:20

If your current way of living is making you happy and getting you through then that’s great! Embrace the time to do what makes you feel good

What @FlowerArranger said in her first post.

What I'd give to be in my teens, 20s or 30s again.

However, as I'm not, I'm actually enjoying walking (about 5k) each day. I am working (PT, as is normal for me) but with all evening meetings and gatherings cancelled, I've got more time than usual and am spending some of it getting out in the fresh air most days. It really does make me feel a whole lot better.

I do realise walking isn't really raising my heartbeat and am trying to do something a bit more intense, but am truthfully only managing that about once every 4 days or so.

lampygirl · 20/04/2020 23:28

I’m loving the extra time. I’ve been on Zwift about 175-200 miles a week. Don’t even need to leave the house. I was already a cyclist before lockdown who would happily do a 50+ mile ride on both days at the weekend but previously only had the weekends and now I have every day. I’m one of the people who with all the running around to things and other sports during the week I didn’t have the time or inclination come half 8 at night but it’s much easier to find 90 minutes or so now to knock out 50km mid afternoon. I’ll definitely miss it after lockdown ends and I have to go back to working in the office.

CalleighDoodle · 20/04/2020 23:30

We do joe wicks most mornings. Apart from that nothing as the children havent left the house and garden at all

stickerqueen · 20/04/2020 23:35

I was lazy before the lockdown exercise what's that? The closest thing to exercise since lockdown has been a couple of 5 minute walks to the shop and walking up and down 3 flights of stairs to put the bins out.

Picklypickles · 20/04/2020 23:35

I've been going out sporadically for a walk, clearly not enough as my 4 mile walk today has left me hobbling about like an old woman!

Davros · 20/04/2020 23:41

Why is this thread full of people saying how much exercise they ARE doing? Surely that's not the point the OP was making

FlowerArranger · 20/04/2020 23:59

It all HURTS. It makes you feel sick, achy, hot , sweaty and hungry. .. it is all so fucking BORING and HORRIBLE. What is the key to enjoying exercise?

Oh dear! Exercise shouldn't hurt. Maybe slightly sore muscles when you try something new or increase the intensity of an existing workout. And youll certainly get sweaty. But being in pain and feeling sick? What kind of workouts have you been doing?

I'm not sure there is a specific key to enjoying exercise, but most of us like some things more than others. Mastering something difficult gives a sense of achievement, which in turn leads to enjoyment. I don't think I'll ever enjoy burpees, but I did learn to like squats and planks.

Also, it helps to start slow and only move on to the next level once you feel comfortable. You might also benefit from a few sessions with a patient personal trainer. I would also suggest that you look up Lucy Wyndham Read. She is really gentle and explains everything really well, and many of her workouts are not very challenging.

The enjoyment comes once you feel in control of your body, when you can actually feel your muscles (and your abs - wow!!), and you don't get out of breath when you run for the bus. And dropping a dress size or two definitely helps. As does the fact that I'm fitter than many women in their 30s.... (I'm over 60...) Wink

PickAChew · 21/04/2020 00:02

I singe my exercises, daily.

Hill1991 · 21/04/2020 00:51

I haven't gone for a single walk/jog never even turned on joe wicks, didn't before so why start now. I walk downstairs every morning and also walk back up when I need the toilet ( really need to get a downstairs loo). That classes as exercise don't it? Grin

Connie222 · 21/04/2020 01:22

No - but I never did before.
