Vain, I know, but do you have a frown line?

If you’re mid 40s or thereabouts do you have a line or two between your eyebrows?

I do and I currently hide it with a fringe. I’m not sure I really suit the fringe. I’m just wondering if most people by my age have a frown line or not. I mean am I trying to hide a ‘flaw’ which is just normal? I’m not bothered about laughter lines for example.

For those who use Botox, presumably at some point the frown lines are going to need more Botox to maintain a smooth look? And do you start noticing other wrinkles developing in time that ‘need’ Botox too? At what point (if ever) would you decide to stop and decide to let your face be what is?

I’m trying to accept my face as it ages, but admit the idea of getting Botox is tempting. Some days are easier than others! I have noticed a colleague and a family member who have had Botox. Their frowns have changed and foreheads are smoother! I have never said anything though. I doubt anybody else would notice; I only did because I knew their faces well.

But I do wonder what will happen in the future; it must be really easy once you have that smooth look back to want to maintain it at all costs, and veer off into a more ‘stretched’ look as the years go by. I worry I’d be more miserable getting myself stuck in a never-ending battle with my wrinkles.

However, saying that, I’m on one of my more sanguine days today. Some days I’m aghast when I catch a glimpse of myself in a mirror and see a cross middle-aged woman staring back at me.

I think the idea with Botox is you stop the lines becoming deeper over time. So if I keep it up for ten years it won’t have aged as much as it would have. Forehead and frown lines are the first to appear on a lot of people so if you are in your thirties or forties it will make you look a bit younger of more refreshed if you get Botox done. In your 50s/ 60s if won’t have the same effect And may look unnatural as the thing that ages you the most is gravity particularly in the lower half of the face. So glassy forehead plus saggy face just looks odd. But not quite as wrinkly as it would have been forehead plus saggy face is what I am aiming for. Anyway I am enjoying the effect it has on me at the moment.

I have deep frown lines, I've been studying them whilst I'm zoom meetings!

When this is done I'm getting Botox and charging it to the ex.... 16 years of frowning at him being a twat!

Angellegna · 22/04/2020 14:40

I thought frown lines needed filler, not botox? Botox would stop them moving but surely you're left with the deep crevasse unless you fill the line?

olivehater · 22/04/2020 17:37

angellegnaonly on really established lines. Even then they would be a lot fainter than before. You can still see some on mine if you look very closely but they are not as strong as before. It also depends on how much Botox you have put in.

I'm 44 I don't have any, but I am about 4 stone overweight so that probably helps

troppibambini · 22/04/2020 19:17

Nope because I have Botox. In fairness my problem area is my forehead but I have my frown (11s) treated too.
It's the best thing ever and no one ever knows unless I tell them and then they are very shocked.
I'm due a top up but they still don't look bad now because they've been frozen for a while I can't make the movement that causes them.

troppibambini · 22/04/2020 19:25

Here's a pic if anyone's interested no make up and in bright sun. Now if anyone can recommend anything to help my pigmentation I'd be very grateful!!
I'm 43 and I have a little bit around my eyes too but when I smile I still crinkle as I prefer a natural look.

@troppibambini Retinol (make sure it's a top quality, medical brand otherwise it won't do much) and vitamin c will help.
Also microneedling and possibly a chemical peel, if you want something more invasive.

olivehater · 23/04/2020 20:59

Baby Botox is just a term for using a bit less so it’s not totally frozen.
