What are the best things you’ve ever bought?

I’ve been enjoying reading about things people have been treating themselves to and need a bit of an imaginary shopping trip.
What are the top one/two/three things (apart from your house) that you’ve ever bought? The things that spring to mind for me are:

  1. Philips Lumea. I’ve had salon laser treatment years ago and even further back electrolysis, spent hours bleaching, waxing, sugaring and this is a revolution. No hair under arms, moustache gone, bikini line hairless and arms so much better. Best money spent.
  1. iPad. Had a few over the years and just love it.

I can think of other things I love but these are the ones that I think how did I live without that before?

What are your top buys ever?

Learning to drive cost a fortune but has given me 25plus years of freedom. The donation for my first and then second rescue cat was also money well spent. I also find my cordless Dyson and Lakeland heated dryer helpful household items. My newish fridge however was a bad buy, fits the space but can get hardly anything in it. A mistake I will probably have to live with for 10 years.

My front 4 teeth. I had them veneered a few years ago and they have transformed the my smile. Expensive but best money I've ever spent.

My pets, obvs. High thread count bedding - worth every penny. My Invisalign retainers. Defo agree re Phillips Lumea - love it.

A spider catcher and a back scratcher.

Crispsareafoodgroup · 19/04/2020 13:38

I forgot - my super king bed and a good quality mattress. That’s number 3. Can fit kids and dog (gross I know) in and everyone still sleeps. Super expensive but worth every penny.

@Wewearpinkonwednesdays I have an eve mattress and it’s very comfortable. Prior to that I had a Sealy orthopaedic one which was great too.

Lavazza milkup milk fro other, it make hot Chocolates or milk shakes and is really quick and easy. I was worried if hardly use it but I'm still not bored of it 5 years later and it looks new.
Newton chiropody sponges have sorted out my feet!

@nakedavengerreturns House on an island? That sounds amazing!

Mine are:
Utility room (okay, so it came with the house but it makes life so much easier)
Single duvets
Several pairs of Poundland reading glasses dotted around the house, handbag, car etc so I don't waste time searching for a pair

By reading these responses I realized I am such a gadget freak! But yes, most of my answers are in line with the other posters:

  • my Kindle. I won a Fire at a raffle years ago and I still use it daily for books, movies, emails. So portable, light and perfect for me.
  • King size bed. Never realized how great it is until I had a baby. baby is 18 months and regularly sleeps with us, but we all have a great sleep as there is enough space for everyone.
  • Invisalign. Paid a fortune many years ago and I wore it for more than two years, but the results have been incredible. Best money ever spent on myself. I no longer have the complex and I am much more confident.
  • Kenwood mixer: cakes, bread and pizza are fun and quick to make.
  • Espresso machine. Probably the most used gadget in our kitchen. Coffee is consistently better than most cafes.

My passport. We couldn’t afford to go on holiday to Skeggy when I was a child, never mind ‘abroad’, so getting my first passport was life-changing. I first visited a foreign country when I was 21, and took my first flight at 23. I soon made up for lost time, and travel is now my hobby & my passion.

@TwoZeroTwoZero. What make is your sleeping mask? I didn't know that these existed. I'm going to order one as I can't sleep in the same room as DH due to his snoring!

Fossilette · 19/04/2020 14:10

My kettle that I can set the water temperature to so I can drink my coffee straight away on a busy work morning. (Been furloughed, so less relevant right now!!)

And my ridiculously priced Dyson Airwrap but it really is amazing!! Managing to do curls that last for 2-3 days. It's ace!!

TwoZeroTwoZero · 19/04/2020 14:12

I don't remember the actual make 'cos it's upstairs but if you google "Bluetooth sleeping mask" there are quite a few makes. I went for one with the controls in the middle rather than at the side because of how I sleep. Its charge lasts for at least 2x full nights. It doesn't block dh's snoring noises out but it gives me something else to listen to rather than focus on that (I like the 10 hour YouTube videos on rain and thunder).

An electric air purifier with built in aromatherapy.
Oh, the smell of Eucalyptus is divine, so refreshing.....

AnnaC2020 · 19/04/2020 14:23

@Wewearpinkonwednesdays I swear by my Ikea mattress! I bought the cheapest one. Think it was £75-£100 for the king sized one but it’s actually amazing

Grobagsforever · 19/04/2020 14:26

Life insurance. Twenty six pounds a month meant I could keep my children's home when DH died age 35.

Slow cooker

DameXanaduBramble · 19/04/2020 14:27

A Barisieur. I wake up to a fresh coffee every morning when the alarm goes off, it times it perfectly to be ready as I wake up.

Vgtasd · 19/04/2020 14:27
