Paying the cleaner

lboogy · 16/04/2020 20:33

Obviously the cleaner can't come and clean. Oh how I miss her so. Anyway, I've paid her for each week she couldn't come. Do I just pay her for 3 months in advance or keep paying each week?

I would ask her but I think she's a little shy to ask directly

I'm paying mine every couple of weeks. Just paid her for this week and next

AnathemaPulsifer · 16/04/2020 20:42

I usually give cash weekly but while I’ve asked her not to come I’m doing a monthly bank transfer.

Rumboogie · 16/04/2020 22:28

My cleaner is still coming, and will unless she or one of us is ill. We keep our distance and she wears gloves/washes hands frequently.

mummymayhem18 · 16/04/2020 22:36

@Rumboogie tut tut. That's hardly following guidelines is it. Very selfish and stupid.

Chickydoo · 16/04/2020 22:37

I have been paying 50% of what they normally earn via bank transfer.
Can't afford to pay 100% as we are self employed

Iamthewombat · 16/04/2020 22:38

We’re just continuing to pay each week, as we would if she were still visiting.

PurpleDaisies · 16/04/2020 22:39

I’m paying when she would normally come.

Unless you’ve got issues that mean you can’t clean your own house @Rumboogie, you’re being very irresponsible letting your cleaner come.

HollowTalk · 16/04/2020 22:39

I'd just pay each week, otherwise if you pay for 3 months in advance and we are allowed contact sooner than that, she'll feel she's working for nothing.

AdriannaP · 16/04/2020 22:42

I am paying her every two weeks via bank transfer. She is obviously not coming anymore.

Smellbellina · 16/04/2020 22:44

We’re paying once a month as usual.

sylbunny · 16/04/2020 22:48

Am I the only one not paying my cleaner?

Maybeimweird · 16/04/2020 22:49

I do part time cleaning and I've not actually charged my clients as I can't provide a service. My children's childminder on the other hand cannot work due to gov guidelines and is still charging full fees to us!

whitedogpoo · 16/04/2020 22:50

@rumboogie which of the essential reasons for leaving your house does cleaning fit in to? Angry It’s very selfish.

LordGarmadon · 16/04/2020 22:50

We're paying our cleaner weekly, as that was our arrangement before lockdown!

How I miss her!!

Smellbellina · 16/04/2020 22:51

Our cleaner hasn’t charged us, we offered. Our wage hasn’t been effected so it seemed the right thing to do. Good cleaners are hard to come by, I’m happy to keep paying to secure our slot.

Northernsoullover · 16/04/2020 22:52

No syl I'm a cleaner and only two of my ten clients are paying me. All are in full employment too (university, council, IT ) I'm ditching the ones who haven't even thought to discuss it with me. After 3 years service +

PurpleDaisies · 16/04/2020 22:53

We’ve done the same @smell. Mine is lovely and must have been really badly affected by the pandemic. DH and I are still getting paid the same with less outgoing so I wanted to keep paying. I’ve been self employed before and know it’s tough.

Viviennemary · 16/04/2020 22:54

As self employed people won't they be eligible for a government grant.

Rumboogie · 16/04/2020 23:20

Absolute tosh. It is fine and you should know it. FYI I am disabled and could not manage otherwise.

@rumboogie which of the essential reasons for leaving your house does cleaning fit in to? angry It’s very selfish

The essential reason that it is not possible to work from your home.

Also see above.

A lot of misinformed and smug people here whose cleaners are clearly a luxury rather than a necessity.

SnowyTeatime · 16/04/2020 23:21

I’m not paying my cleaner. I paid her £75 the first week I asked her not to come. Sent her a message saying I’d transferred the money to her, but won’t need her, as DH was poorly. Her reply was “ok”. She didn’t say thank you or even ask about DH or our DC.

I’ll get a new cleaner once lock down is over!

PurpleDaisies · 16/04/2020 23:22

That might have been helpful information to put in your previous post @rumboogie Hmm

PegasusReturns · 16/04/2020 23:25

I’m paying mine weekly by transfer.

I’m pretty sure that I’m the only one of her clients that is Sad

BackforGood · 16/04/2020 23:27

I'm transferring the normal amount on the days she would normally come (our usual arrangement is termly only).

@sylbunny - it seems fair to me as dh and I are continuing to work our normal hours and haven't had our pay reduced. She's been with us about 3 years and does an excellent job. We won't be any worse off that we are in any other month, and we can keep on top of the cleaning between us.

Notdonna · 16/04/2020 23:27

@Viviennemary if they do qualify for self employment it’s 80% and not until June at the soonest. That’s a very long time to have zero income. If you are being paid then you should pay your cleaner regardless of their cleaning or not. I’m flabbergasted that so many households chose not to!

CheeseFlavouredDiscs · 16/04/2020 23:28

Our cleaner is lovely and tried to refuse payment as she wasn't doing the work. We are both still earning and have insisted on paying her. I'm so pleased to see so many others have continued to pay their cleaners too, they live much closer to the breadline than us. Obviously there will be some people who understandably cannot continue to pay their cleaners (laid off, self employed, etc) and that is also completely reasonable.
