Lockdown napping - are you doing it?

Are you finding you are napping more than you used to if you're at home, not working, kids are older etc? I'm far less active and far more tired - wtf?!

Hoping I'm not the only lazy arse to get into a bad napping habit.

I've come to say no absolutely not, but then I guess I probably don't fall in the category you're referring to. I'm still working PT variable hours and have one primary child at home and all the usual stuff that needs doing.

nibdedibble · 16/04/2020 15:30

I literally can't do my job atm and so I made a list of things that need doing here instead.
Teenage kids are upstairs "studying" and come down for food.
Without the daily bustle and routine I am feeling empty and tired, probably not alone there.

I am still working from home full time but if I wasn't I would definitely nap. I mentioned to DP how I fancied one earlier.

MrsJBaptiste · 16/04/2020 15:30

NO!!!

Hate daytime napping! My friends love an hour in the afternoon but for some irrational reason is really pisses me off - we're only in our 40s FGS!

MrsJonesAndMe · 16/04/2020 15:32

Feeling jealous though as I wake up more tired than when I went to bed. Enjoy the naps while you can!

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 16/04/2020 15:34

Im not sleeping but I am wedded to the sofa, my fleecy blanket and Netflix.

Pipandmum · 16/04/2020 15:36

I love a nap. As we don't have to get up early our routines have changed. My teens sleep till 9-11am depending, and we go to bed about 1-2am (younger teen actually cant make it much past 10pm). They dont nap, but I'm still getting up about 7-7.30 to get dogs out and feed the rabbits then I have virtual coffee mornings or workouts planned so figure I'll just do a bit of tidying etc before they start. Then when its about 3-4pm I'm knackered and also want some alone time so I go to my room to read and inevitably fall asleep for an hour or so.
But can't see doing that if you have young kids.

Bluewavescrashing · 16/04/2020 15:37

I usually have a nap after lunch on my days off (children at school). Chronic condition. At the moment DH is at home furloughed so he tends to take them out for a walk after lunch whilst I sleep for an hour or so.

After lunchtime every day I get very very cold and exhausted which tells me I need a sleep. Afterwards I'm back to normal again. I sleep 9.30pm-7am as well.

ClientQ · 16/04/2020 15:37

God yes Grin I can't go out for walks and I'm furloughed so stuck inside. About to have one now

IamEarthymama · 16/04/2020 15:37

I have chronic insomnia so I do try to resist napping but some days I just can't go on without a speed nap.
Never after 4pm or I definitely will still be awake at 4am.

TheGirlFromStoryville · 16/04/2020 15:39

Love my afternoon nap for an hour or so! But being honest I've done that for ages, long before lockdown 😴

mynameiscalypso · 16/04/2020 15:40

DS is 8 months, sleeps through the night and didn't get up today until 7.30am. I'm definitely still a firm believer in napping when the baby naps though 😂

carriebreadshaw · 16/04/2020 15:40

I just woke up from a lovely nap! Some people get so angry about napping "wasting the day" blah blah blah

I enjoy it and it's not hurting anyone so I do Smile

Northernsoullover · 16/04/2020 15:41

I think I'm going to have one now. I do love an afternoon nap. I'm lucky I'm furloughed (to a point) and my children are fairly self sufficient.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 16/04/2020 15:42

Yes wfh with a 2 yr old- had a lovely 45 min nap today

crustycrab · 16/04/2020 15:44

God no. I'm not 80

thunderthighsohwoe · 16/04/2020 15:45

Can you encourage my 16 month old to take a nap? She had 20 minutes today

Selfsettling3 · 16/04/2020 15:46

I would love it. I could persuade the baby to joint me but not much I could do about the 3 year old.

Watertorture · 16/04/2020 15:47

Dh certainly is Grin

AudTheDeepMinded · 16/04/2020 15:49

I fucking wish! three primary aged children put paid to any such plans.

dottiedodah · 16/04/2020 16:04

Crusty Crab Why does it matter how old you are ? Have always loved a nap myself! Im not 80 either.Evidence proves that a short nap of about 20 mins to 1/2 an hour boosts our brain power.I often wake about 6/6.30 then need a sleep about 3.30 /4 00 feel tons better .

DailyKegelReminder · 16/04/2020 16:09

My toddler DD still has a 3 hour nap in the afternoon, I'm finding myself napping for about an hour. Making the most of it!

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 16/04/2020 16:11

We have been staying up pretty late, but sleeping in pretty late too. I had one nap last week but felt like shit after it, so haven't done it again. I used to love a nap when I was younger. I would have one most days after school, before dinner.

crustycrab · 16/04/2020 16:12

@dottiedodah they're called "nana naps" for a reason Wink

DinosApple · 16/04/2020 16:18

Yes, my DC are fairly self sufficient at 9 & 10. Even when I'm homeschooling I doze off after lunch when we finish.

Yesterday, DH and I were sorting out our bedroom and I sat down for a bit. It was probably about 11am. He told me to go have a nap to get out of his way for a bit... I went to sleep in DC2's bed for 2 hours.

He was really miffed I followed his advice Grin.

I can always nap, I've been able to do it since having glandular fever as an 18yo.
