By myself in A&E - is anyone awake for a hand hold

Gently though, cos I think I’ve broken my wrist. Fainted and landed on it 🤦🏻‍♀️

They won’t let DP stay with me because of coronavirus. So sent him home to get some rest. I still feel quite dizzy and a lot of pain so sitting on the floor waiting for X-ray.

Trying to be brave but it’s weird here. Everyone with masks on.

Sorry to hear this OP

I fainted after breaking my ankle

Is there any way to obtain a coke or lucozade, or even a sugar packet?

I hope you are seen ASAP and heal well Flowers

midwesteaster · 13/04/2020 02:22

Getting told off isn't fun but at least someone is in charge.
Hope you get seen soon.

LilacTree1 · 13/04/2020 02:23

“Dollying lipstick” is an excellent autocorrect 😂

Gentle hand hold. Hope you will be seen soon and everything will be fine.
It probably one of the safest places at the moment because of all measures.

JustStayHome · 13/04/2020 02:25

Did you tell her that your sitting on the floor because your scared your going to fall off the chair

OpthalmosVerde · 13/04/2020 02:28

I’ve got a comfy chair now so can’t really slide off it like the fixed bench type ones, feel safer

There’s more staff than patients that I can see but I think that’s cos I’m opposite the command station. Several very baby doctors who don’t know where anything is - have they let the final year med students out early cos of CoV? Poor things, feel for them.

I fractured my wrist just over three weeks ago - got a cast on until 1st May so I feel your pain! Have you got in a sling at the moment? If not, see if they will give you a temporary one as that will ease the pressure and pain. Have they given you any strong painkillers? Hope you’re not there too much longer.

JackiFazaki · 13/04/2020 02:35

Hello Opthalmos, just saw your post. Glad to see you've got a comfy chair, can't have you getting a cold bum.
I don't sleep so well, so got up for at little while.

I read that you gave blood yesterday. I'm someone who's life has been saved by the kindness of someone like you, so a big thanks from me.
Hopemyou are not there too much longer. How will you get home/

Chottie · 13/04/2020 02:36

I feel your pain too. I've had a broken wrist and it really hurts. I hope you are seen soon and are on your way home.

JustStayHome · 13/04/2020 02:40

They have indeed done that with final med students

Sennedd · 13/04/2020 02:41

It’s only a few weeks before they qualify as doctors. In the Med School in Liverpool nearly all of the year volunteered to work. I hope you feel better soon. My husband was in A and E about a month ago. He was there at 5pm and we got home at 2am.The waiting room was full when we left. You probably got told off because of germs on shoes.

OpthalmosVerde · 13/04/2020 02:44

No sling yet, got it wrapped up with my steadily warming ice pack resting on my belly.

I broke my other wrist before - smashed that one to pieces. This doesn’t seem as bad - swelling but not so obviously deformed - but the pain and weird sensation of movement that shouldn’t move that makes you feel sick is just really familiar.

Wonder if work will furlough me. Would be so much better financially than being signed off sick. They’ve already furloughed around 30% of staff and I was warned I could be in the next group if turnover stays as low as it is at the moment.

Hope you get seen soon, OP.

Flibbertyjibbit · 13/04/2020 02:49

Have you been to x-ray yet? Hope you get a sling soon.

OpthalmosVerde · 13/04/2020 02:58

Nope waiting for xray. There’s no massive rush I guess as have to wait for the bloods anyway.

Only 2 other patients where I am now. One asleep, and the other is very jolly, wants them to turn the music up :-)

Saying hello, awake and saw your post. Must feel very surreal. Hoping time flies quicker or bloods are quicker. Once they have those it’s usually quite speedy.

sashh · 13/04/2020 03:13

Hi OP,

I've been the in A and E alone a couple of times, it's not fun. Hope yu get your X -ray soon.

Myshitisreal · 13/04/2020 03:15

👋 Sending a hug. Hopr you're not too much longer

browzingss · 13/04/2020 03:24

Hope your wrist isn’t broken. How did you manage to break the other one to pieces??

Hollyhobbi · 13/04/2020 03:25

Poor you after doing your good deed by donating bloodFlowers. I have been in A and E 4 times since 1st March. Large teaching hospital with a large number of Covid patients. Had to pass by suspected Covid 19 patient to get blood tests done on one visit (about a foot from the curtain). Also was on trolley beside another suspected virus patient with a curtain between us. Still haven't come down with it, thank god as I have underlying health problems including high BP and history of DVTs. The A and E is now separated into two units. One with suspected Covid patients and the other everyone else. The great thing now is all the usual drug addicts and alcoholics aren't in there anymore! Our CMO was also in this hospital recently for treatment for something unrelated to Covid 19. And he commented on how quiet it was and not to be afraid to come in if you needed to! I reckon if it's OK for Ireland's Chief Medical Officer, it's OK for me too. Hope you are sorted quickly. Did they check if you were anaemic before you gave blood OP?

JustStayHome · 13/04/2020 03:32

Hope its not broken OP.

I broke a bone in my wrist, they ummed and arred about it for ages, went back 4 times...

Still have problems now...

Hopeisnotastrategy · 13/04/2020 03:33

Oh dear, what a nuisance for you. I hope you get sorted out and are soon tucked up in bed at home. 💐

I'm surprised you haven't been given pain killers. When I went to A&E a few years ago that was the first thing the triage nurse did, organise pain killers. I actually didn't have a fracture but it looked and felt as though I did, according to the medics. The x-ray said otherwise, thankfully.

I hope you won't be there too much longer.

BrainstormPickle · 13/04/2020 03:35

Hope you're seen soon, I've been to A&E about 60 times in the past two years, not my favourite place!

Have you had painkillers or are they making you wait until you see a dr (ask for morphine). Tell then you're dizzy too.

I'm having a panic attack so likely around for a couple oh hours. Apologies if I suddenly drop off (diazepam).

Big hug :)
