Is it normal to send Easter cards?

Never heard of this until I met dh. This seems to be a thing that has passed me by all my life. How normal is it to send Easter cards?

Only if you're celebrating the religious meaning of Easter and not just the great God Cadbury.

leckford · 12/04/2020 09:24

No, only religious people do this, I have never sent one

Patterjack · 12/04/2020 09:25

My Gran always sent them to family and her close friends, she was religious. It would never occur to me to send them.

I have sent some for the first time to older replies I won’t be seeing this year.

Connie222 · 12/04/2020 09:25

I never have.

And I grew up in a very strict catholic household. Apart from mass and praying at 3pm on good Friday, we just had chocolate eggs.

Ex PIL were religious and went in for it big time though and Easter was akin to Christmas.

Lockdowner · 12/04/2020 09:26

Fairly normal. More of those thst follow the religious side of Easter but not always.

Alyic · 12/04/2020 09:35

My mother used to send them, but she sent cards to everyone she'd ever met. I've never sent them nor am likely to do.

sunshineanddaffodils · 12/04/2020 09:36

Makes sense then as mil is very religious. Feel a bit bad as it never crosses my mind to send one and forget every year.

I never normally send Easter cards, but I sent a few this year to people I know were on their own or finding things tough.

MamaGothel · 12/04/2020 09:38

I'm religious and I've never sent them, and I don't think I've ever recieved one either. I'm not a fan of greeting cards anyway, from an environmental point of view.

EggBaconBeans · 12/04/2020 09:40

We do . We're Christians

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 12/04/2020 09:41

I sent a non-religious one to little Gdcs (pic of a little lamb).
And they sent me one they’d made on their kitchen table.

Used to get a vaguely religious one from my mother’s lovely long-term cleaning lady, who is a churchgoer - I would send similar back. DM has been gone several years now but we’re still in touch with the CL, who was a godsend in the years before dementia finally meant a care home was needed.
None other sent or received here.

Pelleas · 12/04/2020 09:42

Yes, but as pps have said, it's a practice I'd associate with Christians.

ohmysoul · 12/04/2020 09:44

I only started sending them this year and it's my first Easter as a confirmed practicing Christian.

dementedpixie · 12/04/2020 09:44

Never have but I'm not religious

QuixoticQuokka · 12/04/2020 09:44

I sent them to my elderly relatives this year, normally I just send them Christmas cards. It's not just religious, it's about celebrating spring time as well.

Mrsfussypants1 · 12/04/2020 09:48

I used to send a card every Easter to my aunt. She loved her church and this time of year, the cards were always religious and she always kept a hold of them. She passed away a few years ago and I always miss her more at Easter. I've got my easter candle burning for her today next to some daffodils her favourite flower. I've never sent anyone else Easter cards though, or recieved them from anyone other than my aunt.

Itoldyouiwasill · 12/04/2020 09:53

I receive one from my parents, we are Christians. My daughter also sends them to me and to her Grandparents.
To us it's the most special day of the year and usually one of a great celebration. Sadly this year we're all apart but still will celebrate the meaning of the day

NataliaOsipova · 12/04/2020 09:53

It’s not “normal”, but as they sell them in the shops, it clearly isn’t an odd/strange thing to do either. I’m not at all religious, but bought some “secular Easter” cards (ie ones with rabbits on!) to send to some people I haven’t seen for a while and to keep in touch.

Runnerduck34 · 12/04/2020 09:57

I send them to my children

Lockdowngrinch · 12/04/2020 10:11

@NataliaOsipova I haven’t even seen them in the shops.

tallah · 12/04/2020 10:17

Well, it's normal to people who do it!

gingercat02 · 12/04/2020 10:19

I sent my Mum one this year as she can't be with us as she usually would but not sure I ever have before

Thislittlekitten · 12/04/2020 10:33

I normally never do but I bought a pack this year and the kids wrote a message and picture for family members.

We normally have a big meet up so I thought this would just be nice thing for them to receive this year.

ifowaa · 12/04/2020 10:35

I have this year because I'm apart from my family, but I don't normally.
