What are your favourites? I signed up to Les Mills on demand, and I really don't like it. I can't put my finger on why - the music is terrible, and quite quiet in comparison to the instructor voices - maybe that's the problem; I don't know. I just finish each class feeling a bit flat and I'm not motivated at all with them.

I like Zumba/dance, weights-based classes and step workouts. I don't mind paying if it's good, and ideally I'd like to cast to my TV. Any recommendations?

Have you tried Joe Wicks - the daily workouts are actually quite hard and I find him very uplifting.

gerbo · 12/04/2020 08:57

Joe wicks. No music (usually), lasts half an hour, and I agree- he's positive, uplifting and keeps me moving. I started doing it with the kids and now am doing it solo!! I'm hooked.

FranGoldsmith · 12/04/2020 08:59

No I haven't; I'll have a look - thank you. I'd heard he was doing free classes, but I thought they were for children! Is on YouTube?

Yes it's for everyone except my 14 yr old DS . Look for PE with Joe. If you do it live at 9am Mon - Fri then feels like you're in an actual class. DH joined me on Friday prepared to find it easy and ended up very sweaty.

gerbo · 12/04/2020 09:08

I agree. We both run and keep generally fit but we were both pretty sweaty and tired. Great workout.

FranGoldsmith · 12/04/2020 09:09

Oo thanks - I'll give Joe a go. I like him anyway, so I may find him a bit more motivating than the Les Mills classes.

I take it he doesn't do any step classes? I enthusiastically bought a step at the beginning of social distancing, so I don't want it to go to waste Blush

I don't like Les Mills either. Agree Joe Wicks is good; he also has more challenging workouts on his channel. I also like a lot of the Popsugar Fitness workouts and Christine Kuri.

Rollergirl11 · 12/04/2020 09:13

14yr old DD really rates Chloe Ting. I did one with her the other day and she seems quite good. In the absence of the gym I’ve gone back to my Jillian Michaels DVD’s but DD hates the music on those.

TheEndIsBillNighy · 12/04/2020 09:14

Joe Wicks is ok, but there are far better IMO (and I say this as someone who bought both his plans). Heather Robertson is exceptional, and I really like FitnessBlender too. Their videos are far slicker and they talk less 🤣

MoFoFlo · 12/04/2020 09:15

If you like dance/zumba-type workouts, The Fitness Marshall on YouTube is great. Very camp and lots of fun, but you'll work hard.

everycowandagain · 12/04/2020 09:18

For weights based, try fitnessblender.com there are also lots of good HIIT workouts, and all free.

FranGoldsmith · 12/04/2020 09:22

Great, thanks everyone. I'm cancelling my Les Mills subscription as we speak! I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like Les Mills.

I’ve just had a quick look at Heather Robertson (while lying in bed😂) and the workouts deffo look like my kind of thing. Think I’ll give one a go later on!

Parker231 · 12/04/2020 09:33

Joe Wicks has also done HILT - search on YouTube. I’m finding his are the best at the moment. Start the day with the PE and HILT early evening.

Scotstar · 12/04/2020 09:35

Fitness blender all the way

Ginfordinner · 12/04/2020 09:38

I do the Joe Wicks HIIT workouts.

I wonder how many gyms will lose out on future members as we all get used to working out in our living rooms.

rookiemere · 12/04/2020 09:43

Yes it's so much quicker doing at home gin. Mind you I've just restarted my gym DD. They were very quick to cancel them an stream at least one live class a day, so when they asked to restart if I wanted to, it seemed only fair - plus it's a low cost gym.

TheEndIsBillNighy · 12/04/2020 09:44

I agree @ginfordinner. The time saved not getting go & from a gym, and the flexibility of doing a workout “class” whenever you like is so appealing.

Twerking9to5 · 12/04/2020 09:44

I’m on the verge of signing up to beach body on demand. I did insanity years ago which —nearly killed me— worked and they have a huge choice of videos, of varying lengths and intensity. I think it might be a 3 month min sign up. Not sure if they have a free trial. Also recommend fitness blender for free stuff though!

catinb0oots · 12/04/2020 09:45

How wicks or fitness blender

catinb0oots · 12/04/2020 09:45

JOE

Parker231 · 12/04/2020 09:45

I’m missing the discipline of my personal trainer - I struggle to motivate myself at home although enjoy Joe Wicks energy and enthusiasm.

Glenthebattleostrich · 12/04/2020 09:47

I'm alternating fitness blender and fiton app.

ritzbiscuits · 12/04/2020 09:58

Oh that's a shame, I really like Les Mills, such great value for the variety and no of workouts you get.

Have a look at Bodyfit By Amy on You Tube.

For step, try to find the original Reebok 90s Step routine, I think that's on You Tube too?

Ginfordinner · 12/04/2020 10:02

I still do paid for pilates classes online. The pilates instructor, whose classes I went to before lockdown, is excellent, and I want to support her because she will have lost a lot of income.
