Give WiFi password to elderly neighbour?

Justmuddlingalong · 11/04/2020 08:47

My neighbour has a PAYG mobile. Is there a valid reason why I shouldn't or can't give her my wifi password so she can facetime her family and friends during lockdown? She's in her 80's and I've known her for years.

I would, not going to cost you anything and should make a real difference to her

HannaYeah · 11/04/2020 08:50

Absolutely

Tiredoutteacher2020 · 11/04/2020 08:52

I would in those circumstances.

Chottie · 11/04/2020 08:53

Please do this. It is a very kind gesture, your neighbour will really appreciate it.

TheClitterati · 11/04/2020 08:53

I wouldn't hesitate and I have shared wifi password with elderly neighbours before.

Waiting for someone to come along and point out all the dangers in this reckless behaviour GrinGrinGrin

BarbaraofSeville · 11/04/2020 08:54

Do you trust her not to do anything illegal on the Internet that you wouldn't want going through your IP address or simply streaming 24/7 and busting your allowance?

She could get a Smarty, Giffgaff or similar similar sent to her within a couple of days that would give her a few Gb data for a few quid a month, along with unlimited calls and texts. You'd have to literally never use a PAYG phone to be spending less than that anyway.

Peach1886 · 11/04/2020 08:56

Of course you should that's a lovely idea - you may need to get it set up for her, wi fi and facetime/whatsapp, and if she's like my dad make it a one touch call etc (or she might be a lot more savvy of course!) but that'll be great for her and her family.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 11/04/2020 08:56

I would. I know there are risks but the benefit to her will be enormous.

Rainbowqueeen · 11/04/2020 08:58

I think it’s fine
You can change your password once lockdown is over

Thanks for being such a good neighbour

EachandEveryone · 11/04/2020 09:02

My elderly neighbours have got mine. And my Sky Go which costs me enough so Id rather they had abit of entertainment or flats are right next door to each other. They also share my grocery slot. I cant get worked up about it.

Justmuddlingalong · 11/04/2020 09:04

She's a gentle soul. Has no known affiliation with any terrorism groups. Would be horrified at the thought of watching porn. 😁 I trust her and think that it's worth any small risk. She lives alone and is a lovely neighbour. I'd like to enable her to have contact with the outside world.

Absolutely I would.

Whaddyathinkofthis · 11/04/2020 09:10

Nice gesture but i can't help but wonder why her family arent facilitating this so she can keep in touch?

MrsDaveGrohl78 · 11/04/2020 09:12

I would!

Rockbird · 11/04/2020 09:14

Absolutely would, yes. Lockdown must be so much worse without the ability to keep in touch with people.

kimlo · 11/04/2020 09:15

I would.

LizzieMacQueen · 11/04/2020 09:24

Yes I would. Do you have a spare iPad to lend her too (not all the time but for when she makes calls)?

Ughmaybenot · 11/04/2020 09:25

Oh do it, definitely. That would be so easy to do but so kind

TiptopJ · 11/04/2020 09:27

I think that would be a lovely thing to do

Changedname78 · 11/04/2020 09:29

@Whaddyathinkofthis If she has no phone line and WiFi the chance of anyone coming out to fit it now would be slim and even if they did it wouldn’t happen over night. So not sure the family could help?

Op I definitely would I think it’s a lovely gesture

Pinkpeone1 · 11/04/2020 09:30

Yes I would and have done for my neighbour.

Justmuddlingalong · 11/04/2020 09:31

She's used facetime before so can use it, but is worried about the cost of top ups. I'll give her a call and set her phone up if she's happy with that.

I would and have done for my neighbour so she can WFH. It makes no difference to me but a big difference to her so can see no reason not to (I trust her totally, she even asked me if it was OK for her to look at BBC news site on her lunch break! )

maddy68 · 11/04/2020 09:41

Of course

captainprincess · 11/04/2020 10:14
