If you were to have a 2nd home, where would it be?

Seeing so many reports of Londoners with second homes, has made me daydream a bit about having a 2nd home. ;) any suggestions on where we could buy?

Preferably with a massive garden, close to beautiful walks, beach etc. Oh and cheap too

I have never been to Cornwall but it looks absolutely gorgeous and so I would choose a beach house in Penzance, it’s the last train stop in the whole of the UK and so the summers would be amazing and I think I would be happier 99% of the time.Smile

Inappropriatefemale · 10/04/2020 15:23

I would want a busy high street though with all the necessary shops and great transport links.

Somewhere like Staithes or Robin Hoods Bay, Yorkshire coast. Love it there.

London. I wish I could afford to live there, or just to have a small flat centrally there.

Raera · 10/04/2020 15:25

We considered that, but thought we would soon get bored of spending our holidays in the same place.
Got a Motorhome instead. Love it and because it's parked on our drive, we can still use it!

Calmdowndeary · 10/04/2020 15:26

Mine would be in London. I love the place.

bettybattenburg · 10/04/2020 15:27

We'd get a motor home as well, we'd keep it back home with family/friends so we could go there for holidays and tour round.

TheFutureMrsHardy · 10/04/2020 15:28

A tree house stuck miles from anywhere in remote forest.

A true escape from life, noise and people.

And some place where it doesn't impact on the locals. I'd hate to be a second home owner in Devon or Cornwall - look at the grief Gordon Ramsay is getting, even though they were already there when this outbreak began. And he's spent millions renovating a house all done by local tradespeople............. but they still hate him.

countdowntonap · 10/04/2020 15:31

On Anglesey, near Rhoscolyn or Rhosneiger would be a dream.

Is Gordon Ramsay hated because he is in Cornwall or because he acts like a dick on TV?

nettytree · 10/04/2020 15:34

At the moment I would love the villa we had on Orlando last year. The kids would be able to use the pool.

BikeRunSki · 10/04/2020 15:34

West coast of Scotland. Anywhere really, from Stranraer to Ullapool

Deelish75 · 10/04/2020 15:38

Pembrokeshire.

We went a few years ago and the beaches were amazing.

transformandriseup · 10/04/2020 15:39

Probably not in the UK. If I had to move elsewhere locally it would probably be St Agnes so maybe there.

bengalcat · 10/04/2020 15:39

The Alps

WanderingTrolley1 · 10/04/2020 15:40

Where I used to live, Switzerland.

Shmithecat2 · 10/04/2020 15:40

Symonds Yat. Depending on where, you probably wouldn't have a massive garden without a slope or terrace, but the walks and scenery are incredible.

transformandriseup · 10/04/2020 15:41

Actually a house or flat in London would be pretty nice

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 10/04/2020 15:41

We’d go to Suffolk. We love it there, the weather is often very dry and there are so many beautiful villages and beach areas.

Maybe Northumberland too, but it’s colder for longer.

LochJessMonster · 10/04/2020 15:41

Knynsa, South Africa

In the U.K., probably Scotland on one of the Lochs.

ShirazSavedMySanity · 10/04/2020 15:42

Abersoch.
The views, the walls, the village, the places to eat, the beaches, the wildlife.
A big cottage with a hot tub would do us

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 10/04/2020 15:42

@countdowntonap I love Rhosneigr. Spent many a happy holiday or weekend sea kayaking as a teenager there.

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 10/04/2020 15:44

I have lovely memories of family holidays in Abersoch as a child but as we're talking fantasy second homes I'd choose St Lucia or Antigua. I've never been to either country but the look gorgeous.

Dowser · 10/04/2020 15:46

I’ve had holiday homes in some lovely places, Orlando , south west brittany all fabulous as well as a cottage and Several caravans in Yorkshire.
I think we will settle with our current static as it’s less than an hour from home in N Yorks and we love the ease to get to it.
If you pushed me to have a third maybe somewhere near cardiff . I love the welsh people, so friendly and there’s so much happening in the capital itself. My cousin lives out near Barry so that would do me fine.

Or down by Glastonbury/ shaftesbury/ Salisbury. Just love that area and we have friends their too.
Again lovely people.

DamsonDress · 10/04/2020 15:47

Next to Lough Erne, Enniskillen.

Or, since I live in the sticks in a delipdated farmhouse (and love it), a town house in beautiful little Mews in London would be nice for a change. For when I'm feeling all cosmopolitan and busy.

Ah, here. I'd be happy with a caravan in my mother-in-law's drive tbh. I'm easily pleased.
