If you were to have a 2nd home, where would it be?

Seeing so many reports of Londoners with second homes, has made me daydream a bit about having a 2nd home. ;) any suggestions on where we could buy?

Preferably with a massive garden, close to beautiful walks, beach etc. Oh and cheap too

We have friends with 2nd homes in Spain and the Caribbean. Some years they only manage to visit 1-2 times a year. We aim to visit 1-2 times a month.

I keep clothes, toiletries and food there so we just get in the car and go.

@babychange12 - I grew up in Central London and have no desire to ever go back for more than a weekend, and only under duress from the DC!

Davespecifico · 10/04/2020 18:11

Central London - somewhere near Marylebone
Coast of Southwest France e.g, Collioure
Costa Brava - maybe St Feliu de Guixols
Lisbon
Lagos in Portugal
Barcelona
Cornish coast

New Forest where a lot of my friends live. My mum. dad and Aunt all died there so would no longer be seeing them.

babychange12 · 10/04/2020 18:14

DH thinks it's a waste going back to just one place every holiday but I reckon if it's 1-2 hrs away, we could use it a lot during school holidays. Sigh I could dream

A tree house stuck miles from anywhere in remote forest.

Oh yes!!

Also a house in the Highlands with private access to the Lochside. A boathouse and a rowing boat.

meow1989 · 10/04/2020 18:16

Budapest, somewhere near the sea (Brighton or Suffolk coast), or somewhere in the lake district.

RosesandIris · 10/04/2020 18:16

Suffolk people.. where in Suffolk is best?

PoppliosBubble · 10/04/2020 18:19

I live in second home central already, I took this photo on my daily walk with dc today. If I had a second home I’d have it in London.

If you were to have a 2nd home, where would it be?

If difficulty of getting there weren't an issue? Somewhere nice in Rhode Island, maybe Westerly.

If travel had to be more realistic, maybe Nice. I think I'd want it to be warmer than here and we're in the southeast.

babychange12 · 10/04/2020 19:49

I know someone who has a 2nd home in a Nice. Well his wife and kids live there full time and he commutes between London and Nice every week Confused

Spain

My main home is in the Brecon Beacons, it's rural but within walking distance of a town. My second home is on the Algarve, Portugal. I'm in Portugal now, I've been here since early March, I'd move here full time but my husband isn't ready to make the permanent move yet.

Kittykatmacbill · 10/04/2020 20:19

The Barbican?

If that isn’t allowed, Somewhere in the Tyrol, maybe Achensee.

Sexnotgender · 10/04/2020 20:19

Cape Town

IdentifyasTired · 10/04/2020 20:30

I'll have 2 second homes pls!
One in very rural North East (County Durham or Northumberland) and one in Malaga with direct access to the beach.

Likethebattle · 10/04/2020 20:51

Inveraray. There is a cottage for sale that would be perfect,

Caramel78 · 10/04/2020 20:52

West Dorset would be my ideal

ChikiTIKI · 10/04/2020 20:53

On Anglesey I think 😃

AhoyMrBeaver · 10/04/2020 20:58

Peak District.
